Ravens Beast

Worst Sports Commentator

62 posts in this topic

Joe Theismann, Matt Millen, Steve Beurlein, and Bryant Gumbel, not necessarily in that order.

I never would've guessed Bryant and Greg were related since Greg is a much better commentator.

My vote goes to Theisman that man has clear cut favorites and won't stop talking about them the whole game.

Yeah, I was getting extremely irritated by that the entire night. Hearing about how he wants a DVD of Matt Ryan's throws because their a work of art certainly never got old. Neither did seeing Ryan's chipmunk face everytime they had the ball the first half. Oh wait...

If we're talking analysts, Dierdorf and Gruden are just the worst.
In Gruden's defense, the quality of his analysis depends on where he heard it from first.

how bout Kornheiser??
Love him on PTI, but he was terrible on MNF. It just wasn't for him. Hes more of an entertainer.

Theisman really made a statement yesterday, so I'd say he takes the cake.

True. Not only is he trash in the booth, those "interviews" he does with players in the pre-game show are just terrible. The screen will show some random player the player being interviewed might look up to and Jon will say, "Do you know who this is?" No Jon, they don't!!

Oh yeah, I just remembered. You guys recall Deion Sanders from the Cowboys/Ravens game a couple years back? The whole crew was terrible, but Sanders seemed to stand out. He sounded disappointed whenever the Ravens scored.

Bottom-line is the NFLN really needs to find some decent commentators.

<Wonder what the Ravens front office would think about giving a lucky fan the chance to sit and commentate with Gerry Sandusky. Hmm...>

I don't know... I loved Sanders during those back-to-back TD runs. "Here we go again..."

Those announcers were extremely terrible, it seemed like every time they talked about someone on the Ravens they messed up with either the name or what they were talking about.

Yeah, the Matt Ryan love fest made me want to puke... and come fourth quarter when they started pronouncing Haloti Ngata's name wrong... I just put them on mute. All in all, a terrible job on the part of the commentators.

David Zurawik is a blogger for The Baltimore Sun whose area of expertise is criticizing telecasts, both sports and otherwise. He's just as critical as we are of the commentary during each Ravens game, especially the last one. (LINK)

Like myself, he hates Steve Beurlein and ripped him a new one during the last Ravens game he called. He also trashed Bryant Gumbel two years ago as possibly being the worst football commentator in the recent history of the league. My kinda guy.

The best was when he said Ryan reminded him of Peyton Manning AND Tom Brady. It's a wonder we haven't elected him president yet!

(And calling Matt Ryan "Joe Flacco" whenever he missed a throw and not realizing it until the next play.)

I dont know which one it was but it was pretty annoying Thursday when Mase caught that touch down pass and the announcer went on and on and on about how well Mason was covered.

Gruden sucks too.

He's in love with Matt Ryan. They're getting married on the 25th.
The perfect marriage: Matt Ryan to Joe Theismann and his "security blanket." :point:

Joe Theismann is my answer as well, always has been, even on the NFL network, I think he's taken too many hits.

Does anyone remember when he said, "Nobody in football should be called a genius. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein."
