I'm So Tired Of Hearing About Our Poor Run D

34 posts in this topic

Every article I read or video I watch about the Ravens someone mentions how our run D isn't very good anymore. It drives me crazy because they're right. For all the talk there still is about how physical we are up front and how good our front 7 are, they are not playing like it so far this year. For any other team 19th in run D might be acceptable but not for us.

Things need to change tonight against the Falcons on national TV. I don't think I could stand to watch our D dominated in the trenches to the toon of 100+ rushing yards again. Ravens, its time to man up and stop Michael Turner!!

Veterans like Cody and Redding aren't going to rebound this season; the young players need to step up.

Cody is a vetern? :P

Our defense knows what they have to do against the Falcons. Believe it or not, but most of the rushing yards against the Ravens comes from backup RB's. Our guys know how to stop someone if they have the tape on him.

Jets game: We crushed Greene. In comes LT to replace him and gets 5-6 yards/carry.

Bengals game: We did great against Benson.

Browns game: Hillis pretty much debuts against us, and has his way with us.

Pitt game: Mendenhall does little.

Denver has no run game

Patriots game: Green-Ellis (starter) does nothing, Woodhead (backup) gashes us.

Bills Game: Bills' backup Spiller wasn't used much, but he had 50% more yards per carry.

Dolphins game: Dolphins don't really have a starter, but the two games before we played them, it was Ricky Williams who had a much higher yard/carry than Brown. Leads me to believe we probably planned for Williams, but it was Brown who got 6.6 yards/carry on us.

There you have it. Unless the Falcons have someone else up their sleeve, I don't expect Turner to do THAT well on us, even if he is a big back.

Interesting point. I never thought of that. However, past Ravens teams stopped everyone no matter what including future HOF in their prime. Now we can't stop backups. Not very good. Here's hoping they correct it tonight against Turner.

We'll be fine... They always gotta knock something... Yea our run d isnt what it has been for years but it hasnt outright cost us any games this year... We have had a chance to win all 8 games we have played..

Give cody a couple more weeks of game experience and confidence and then we'll have the rotation we need at DT

If Turner runs on us tonight, we will hear even more about a bad Run D. The media has to find something bad because we are #1 in the AFC

Well, according to NFL.com we're:
-4th in scoring defense
-9th in passing defense (yds/game)
-13th in run defense (yds/game)

Not too shabby.

Ellerbe is a Georgia Bulldog and a run-stopper. I definitely seeing him getting opportunities to improve our team stats tonight in front of a home crowd of sorts for him.

I know how you feel. Our DB's have been drilled so long I can't even remember.

They're starting to get a little better but they still have flaws.

Turner is gonna have to play one of his best games tonight if we are gonna win. Besides,I think most defensive rankings are over-rated. ^_^

I believe you are right on the money with these facts, Runnin', and I have to believe that we are geared up to stop whatever the Falcons come at us with.

i can't but think back to our preseason game when we had so much trouble trying to take down B. Jacobs. Let's hope tonight is not a repeat against a big powerful back.

The funny thing is, OUR D IS GOOD. Maybe not AS good as they used to be years ago, but we're still elite.
The D might good but I wouldn't call them elite.

Run defense hasnt been as good because the defense for most of the season has been focused on helping in the passing game.. so linebackers been dropping back into zones on a lot of plays.. teams been running alot of traps and zone cutbacks on us that go for 5 r 6yds... Every time I see it I wonder if Cody could have made a difference....

also our defense is missing Trevor Pryce because he would set the edge on run plays very well in years past which allowed Ngata to stay inside more

The team is missing Edwards and Bannan more than they're missing Pryce.

I just want to take this opportunity to have a nice chuckle...I see all these comments about "we need this/that player", "we miss so and so" and "our defense isnt is good as it used to be".Now show of hands please...Which ones of you were kickin' and screamin' bloody murder and negged me til my nose bled when I said the exact same things in the Dear Ozzie thread?Just checking!

It's mostly the physical runners that have their way with us. So even though the Falcons offense seems very flashy and high tech due to White's success, they can change their identity in a heartbeat because Turner is very physical, so we have got to bring our A game.

I've said it many times, the primary way to beat a powerful front is by using more power. That's how Benson, Peterson and Hillis did it to us, and I would put Turner in that category of top runners as well because he's healthy now.

I think you were negged because the topic came off as more as the rant of a frustrated fan. Nothing you said(that I can remember) was necessarily wrong but the front office is obviously aware of those problems. Just my two cents.

Tough thing about this matchup is that Atlanta has 2 good running backs with similar running styles. Turner is his physical self and Snelling is essentially Turner Jr.. My question is, where has Jerious Norwood been this year? Maybe I'm lost and neglected to realize he is on IR or something

Yep, IR. Their backup Snelling is probable for the game
