Al Harris Cleared Waivers

Al Harris just cleared waivers. He is 6'1" tall and 190 lbs. We don't have a tall CB a la Chris McCalister on our current roster. Do you think we should sign him and cut Fabian Washington who is beginning to look like a liability in certain games while guarding top receivers who also happen to be big? Give your reasons as to why this would not be a good signing. I know he is old - 36 yrs old to be exact but still has game I understand...

There's a reason why the Packers cut him. Four years ago a chance at Al Harris would have been a chance at a premier corner. Now it's a chance to have him retire on your roster. We're better off developing the players we have than jumping at short-term solutions that won't even solve anything.

Maybe Shannon, Goose, Woodson, Ismail, Dilfer, etc.... want to come back as well. Why don't we get them all to get a physical and see where they stand. Good lord people, like countless others have said and maybe for the million time, if Green Bay has cut him why would we want to bring him in? Hell get Art Donovan on the phone as well, see if he would like to make a come back and spice up the defense as well!!

He is pretty old and always injured, I don't think that it is the right way to go. Josh Wilson and Ladarius Webb should be a good combination to look forward to.

Veteran League Minimum and let Green Bay foot the bill? It's worth a try out. Don't know who'd we cut. Green Bay cut him because they have tons of faith in their two young guys. We have faith in ours as well.

Now that Al Harris has been signed by the Dolphins, this thread will be closed.

As a related aside, Harris has not played since being injured almost one calendar year ago, so any chance of signing him would've realistically been for depth rather than any significant contribution. Frankly, the Ravens rarely sign an aged, injury-prone veteran for depth unless they view his skills as being good enough to produce when called upon. The short-lived signings of Walt Harris and Travis Fisher point to this trend, particularly with Harris' pattern of consistency during his run in San Francisco when healthy.
