Ideally it would be a 1 on 1 trade for a #1 d-man. Green is a great offensive talent but isn't a work-horse. If I'm McPhee , I'm eyeing Nashville's Ryan Suter who would be a #1 on 20 teams in the league but in Nashville he's stuck behind Weber . The Predators have a self imposed cap and Weber will get a big extension next season, making Suter expendable.
If not,I would try to trade with teams under-achieving and in desperate need of young talent, like the Flames. Regehr who is a top shut-down d-man plus a good two-way forward would also be a good return for Semin.

This team won't trade Semin. If they were going to trade him, it would have been last offseason. There is no reason at all to trade a young player like that away, especially someone that can play at a high level in arguably the top line in hockey. We have two future stars in Alzner and Carlson that will end up as our top 2 defenders soon. I'm not against bringing Suter, because i've thought about that myself, but I doubt we are going to go older as opposed to younger. Knuble is on our team solely because he's still very productive for a 36 year old.

Yes,I know . As of now, we don't know if he's in the long-term plans of this team either, probably the front office will wait and see how he handles the playoffs.
In other news,this team refused to go after a defensive d-man in the summer and now McPhee is scrambling to get one and he will part with picks/prospects/players in doing so. He even stated that a defensive d-men will put us over the top . Last free agency had good to great defensive d-men like Martin,Volchenkov,Michalek,Lydman or Mitchell.

It'll be interesting to see who we bring in at the deadline. I wasn't a big fan of what McPhee did last year. Corvo was nice and all, but he was sort of aged Mike Green.

Yeah he was. I like having a guy like Mike Green though, he's very clutch at times, an offensive minded defender. It will be an interesting deadline, though.

I was a fan of him during his breakout year, but the last couple years I find myself being a disgruntled Green fan. He makes to many mistakes for a defensemen and to me the goals don't make up for it.

Yeah that was pretty bad, he got totally snubbed by the Canadian National team. This was a guy up for the Norris award the past few years.

They should give two defensive awards. One for offensive defensemen and another for defensive defensemen. lol

Not a fan? I'm a fan of Gabby. He lets these guys have fun and play. Some might say that's a bad thing. But I feel like if we get a stricter coach in there, the team won't score at will. But who knows?

It could go either way. Right now, it's obvious the team is lazy and giving up. Two 5-0 losses in one week? With our offense? Ovie seems to give up if he can't score in the first period, and his attitude needs to change.

Yeah but we are still 1st in the Eastern Conference. Its sort of the same with the expectations that fans have with the Ravens. These team will have a couple periods of lazy games. But then they'll rattle 15 games in a row.

He let's them have too much fun at times. Players get away from the system when things don't go their way and rely too much on talent. Yeah,it gets you wins in the regular season if you're as talented as the Caps are, but it won't work in the playoffs

As a former season ticket holder and someone who has religiously followed them since about 1989 I refuse to get excited about or take anything this team accomplishes seriously during the regular season after that playoff bomb they dropped last year. Reality is the CAPS have a rich tradition in playoff chokes...especially when they cross paths with that lame team from western PA

Just saw it, that was really really disappointing to see. As I stated, I'm not a fan of Boudreau at all. I'm no coaching expert, but I can't see how moving your captain and star player to the third line helps at all. He's obviously completely lost the team, regardless of our record.

Damn this news slipped by me. I'll take this deal in a heart beat. Flash has always been inconsistent at times. And we are so loaded with talent at the front this move makes a lot of sense. I've always looked at Fehr and Flash as the dynamic duo. Now we can just rely on Fehr as that support guy.

But great move to boster our defense. Hannan seems excited about the opportunity to win the cup with us. Ten times a better move than the Corvo experience.

I hope not. Semin is finally coming into his own. I'm sure a lot of people would love to swipe him from us. But I don't think GM is ready to give up on him especially now that he is producing. We might be able to use his fruitful tree to win us a cup this year then say goodbye in the offseason.


And the trade deadline is still upcoming. I'm sure we'll make another move.
