Bend But Don't Break

10 posts in this topic

So a lot has been made out about our defense which is currently ranked 9th against the pass, 13th against the rush, and 9th total. Now I know it sounds relatively bad considering our history of having a top ranked defense, but the NFL ranking system is based on yards, not points, case point being the San Diego Chargers who until last week boasted the best ranked offense and defense, despite a losing season.

Currently our defense is 6th in points per game allowed, take away ST kicks and conversions and our defense is 2nd in the league for touchdowns allowed with 13.

Bend but don't break indeed.

I believe if we win Thursday, we will really get things rolling. Gonna be a tough game, but I agree.....I'll take close wins and I think we are better than we look.

The hardest thing for me to watch this season with our defense, is how they are just running straight up the gut on 1st down for like what 3/4/5 yards. Or basically just teams running on our defense PERIOD! I guess being spoiled with a defense that IMO was and still is a dynasty/legacy, would at some point kind of let up and we would eventually see obvious holes that need work, that in the past has been almost non exsistent and always looked tip top for years. Glad we finally have an offense that can pick up our defense when need be, and an offense that we can actually depend on and count on to win us games!

A win next week, for either team would be HUGE in so many levels.

More so for the Ravens because it's in Atlanta, where Ryan only lost 1 game. But that shouldn't be discouraging because:

-Miami never lost on the road
-Flacco has never won in Heinz
-There was no way superbowl favorite Jets were going to lose in their new stadium opening

These trends go on to last year.

Remember last year after the bye? Our next game was against the Broncos, and the D looked noticeably improved. That trend continued the rest of the year.

I'm just sayin' we looked pretty good against Miami...

I dont think we looked any different at all.Brown averaged like 40 YPC and Chad Henne-ssey threw for a pretty solid amount of yards on us.Certainly can't complain about shutting them down for 10 points, though.

Points are all that matter.

Henne can throw for 575 yards with 250 of them going to Ronnie Brown but as long as we hold them to 10 points, I'm a happy (slightly surprised) guy.

Mostly I meant our defense looked a lot better after halftime, i.e., after Wilson came in. I think Miami only got 130 total yards and 0 points, not to mention our 3 interceptions.

I agree. I used to be dissapointed when a team gained 3 or 4 yards rushing against us. Now, it really sickens me to see them getting 5, 6, and 7 yards at a time sometimes.

The defense looks weak but they typically do not give up too many points. (except for that all powerful Bills team)Certainly they do not look like the D of old, but who ever does?
