Al Harris, a Philadelphia Eagle and Green Bay Packer was released today. He is 35 years old turning 36 in December is a great cornerback but has suffered a serious knee injury. Do you think it is worth the risk?

He is talented... no doubt. But, hes old, and after ths severe of an injury... there is a reason the packers let go of him considering how insane hes played in the past... he wont be back to his old form.

He is too old/banged up in my opinion. I feel like our secondary is just starting to round into shape with Wilson/Webb/Carr. No need to mess up the chemistry we already.

I think we should pick him up, he would be a welcome addition to our secondary.

And let go of whom...and for an older, oft-injured DB?

Please, no.

We would be foolish not to take a look at Al Harris. Evaluate him and his health and if he's ok...get him...he will help...especially against taller recievers

The key to this question is not his age but how is his knee?

I personally think Webb and Wilson need to start. If we ever did get Al Harris, he would probably back up

The Packers' coach said today it had nothing to do with performance, or about his injury. He said it was in the best interest in the long term, because they are so thin at almost every position, and with the emergence of a few young corners of theirs, he had to go.

I say take a shot, see what he can do. Similar to the Merriman situation, only he's older.

and you want to bench a young talent like Webb in favor of bringing in a old guy? Yes let's do the opposite of the Pack, they release the vet because of the younger talent playing well, and you want us to sign Harris in favor of Webb and Josh Wilson which are both younger and help us long term.... don't see the logic there. Plus we have Foxworth coming back next year so we don't need Harris.

Wish these threads would go away, I'm starting to think we need a section called "Released Players and Why Should the Ravens Sign Them?"

if thats indeed the real reason, then it wouldnt hurt to take a look at him.

you're saying this after 3 interceptions and 10 points allowed to the Dolphins? Nope. Maybe if he had been available preseason, but certainly not now. Let our young cornerbacks develop (Webb and Wilson). The last thing we need is another aging defensive player.

Did I say anything about benching any of our regular players? Maybe if you read...What I meant was, bring him in for a tryout, see how he fares on his bad knee, and maybe sign him. As we saw last year, you never know when a player can go down with a bad injury, and we had two (Webb and Fabe) last year. We're already down one with Foxy.

+It never hurts to have a veteran presence. He was a great cb in his day, and our young guys are still developing.

If that's true then it couldn't hurt to bring him in for a try out and a tough physical to see how healthy he really is.

But I don't like the idea of taking away playing time from our corners when they are playing the way they are. With Wilson and Webb at the two corners and Carr filling in at nickel we could have the stablest and strongest DB corps we've had for years.

Edit: And oh yeah, who de we cut? That's a big issue with a move like this.

Standard question: which of our young guys do we cut to make roster space for an old vet?
Hypothetically speaking, i'd say Lamar Divens? I haven't seen this guy on any occassion so far, unless i'm missing him on special teams or something.

Again, I didn't say anything about him starting over anyone. Read my previous post-you never know when a guy or two..or more, could go down with injuries. Never hurts to have a veteran.

Al harris has been one of my favorite CBs for the past decade. Love the guy, plays like a Raven and he has always been so under-rated.But no, not worth it.

I don't feel the team needs to add Harris. The CBs have performed well for the most part this year and they themselves know they aren't playing their best football. Come late in the season, when everyone is comfortable, the DBs could be a very strong unit.
