I remember that play. Garcon punched it out because Ed was palming the ball like he was playing basketball. That pissed me off so much. Such a stupid reason to have it stripped.

No offense, but that last sentence is an excuse for losers, and Ed Reed is not a loser. He got to where he is today by refining his skills and identifying his mistakes, resulting in him being ahead of the curve and being elite. He doesn't compare himself with the average NFL player and what mistakes they make. Asking him to participate in ball security drills should be a necessity, but is also a huge compliment for being a safety. It should only add to his confidence.

I'm sure his confidence in his hands is extremely high, as it should be, but it's bordering on arrogance when you don't protect the football to give your offense a chance to score. I understand his scoring itch, but how often does a lateral lead to a score? Often it leads to maybe 5 more yards, which is hardly worth the risk.

I wasn't comparing him to an average player, just saying that even the best players make mistakes. Ray Lewis will miss tackles. Peyton Manning will throw picks (see last night. Matt Stover will miss field goals. Jon Ogden will whiff on blocks. Ed Reed will fumble interceptions. Sure, he should work (and probably does) on it, but that's not a guarantee it won't happen in the future.

That's all - nothing more.

People gotta realize that coaching in the NFL today is alot of stats. Ed Reed negatives far out weigh the positives. I think hes what lost 2 of his ints his entire career from lats? Coaches will look at that stat and just let him be him.

I think you mean that his positives outweigh his negatives....

Who doesn't love Ed... while I do love his tenasity and spunk to make something big happen every time he touches the ball, I must admit on Sunday (and a few times before) when I see him attempt to latteral I jump up and start yelling "Just HOLD the BALL and GO DOWN ED!!"

IMHO, if he actually did let go of the ball in that situation, not much if any good would have come. It actually looked kinda silly to even attempt it in that situation given the amount of phins players around.

At least in the Colts game last year I understand it, he was trying to find a spark because our offense was doing nothing. He developed this habit during years of offensive ineptitude, and I've actually grown to like his style. The only thing I'd say is, be decisive. Secure the football, and if the opportunity presents itself and you feel like its a good idea, lateral it. Don't hold the ball out there as you decide, it's crazy!!! It is offensive players trying to tackle you, and they're out of position, but you can't force it.

You hit the hammer right on the nail mentioning the habit Ed developed do to the offense lack of throughout his career being on the team with the exception of this year. I think you will see less laterals from Ed b/c he knows the offense is very capable of putting points on the board now. I also look at it like this, if Ed wasn't back there, more than likely we wouldn't have gotten the pick anyway. Ed doesn't have to be so desperate with his laterals now as I seen last game, a year or 2 ago and he would have lateral that ball to Ray-Ray so he is definitely aware of the circumstances as far as the team as a whole.
