whatever man. look at billicks record, he has one of the top winning percentages before getting fired. his record speaks for itself. its like marty getting fired. in case you didn't notice, billick did bring the best rushing attack to b more for yrs, even a 2k yard season. he is no offensive wizard, thats for sure, but he knew how to be a great head coach. he was planning on bringing a high caliber OC like cameron or martz in 08 anyway. he admitted his flaws at the end of the season. he got fired because his players were injured, which was not right. there are much worse HCs in the nfl still coaching as we speak. Best of luck to him.

Your opinion is well respected but Billick being fired can hardly compare to Marty being fired. Lets refresh our memory. Marty was fired coming off of a 14-2 season. Billick was fired coming off of a 5-11 season. I wont argue the reasoning behind either or whether it was right or wrong but the fact is the reasons you get fired after a 14-2 season are totally different from the reasons you got fired after a 5-11 season. One is understandable, not neccessarily right or wrong, and really does not warrent further explanation, the other is a mystery.

I like the fact that hes staying local for now. Also, I live right next to Towson so maybe I'll see him at the bars or liqour store.

Billick went 5-11 because his roster was injured. His backups played on both sides of the ball. You can't blame him for that, he went 13-3 the season before that with a healthy roster.

i have read from numerous sources that the players did infact have at least some or a little influence on Biscotti's decision to let Billick go in the end.....Biscotti said that is wasnt the 5-11 season and what not...he said that Billick had lost his team and lost control over the players....he said that in between games....in locker rooms and on plane flights, players were fighting, and constantly arguing, thus prompting Biscotti to make a decision for his team.

That wasnt my point. Billick and Marty's firing's can not be compared because ,as I stated before, one was coming off a 5-11 campaign the other a 14-2 campaign. Anything beyond that is irrelevant as far as I am concerned.

Here's a somewhat related article on the Sun's page:

http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/footbal...0,3010306.story

Found that pretty interesting. I can't see him being anything but an upgrade over most of the game analysts out there.

A gut feeling tells me that Billick will be back in the Ravens organization one day. Not as a coach but in some cushy front office job. I am not going to lie, I am glad he's no longer our coach and I was one of the ones calling for his head but he's a good guy and he did alot for this franchise and city. Maybe he could come back and work with Ozzie.

san diego is extremely lucky that they have the plethora of talented young guns that they do! i still say the firing of marty was stupid!

i'll be perfectly honest here too. any one who fires marty shottenheimer and hires norv turner isn't the sharpest too; in the shed. yeah, yeah..they went to the AFC championship this past season, but not because of norv turner. norv was handed a rock solid football team. he could have a mirror-image of what happened last year and i would still say the same.

LOL, does anyone think BILLICK will get a head coaching job offer within the next few years with another team or do you think he is done? Or maybe an offensive coordinator job? but speak on which you think or no if none at all. I keep thinking he will be a HC somewhere within the next few years and it will be weird facing him.. I could see him replacing MARVIN LEWIS.. how weird that would be!.

I cannot stand the decissions BILLICK was making on the field the past few years they were so FRUSTRATING and dumb. Some of the things he would go through with would make you shake your head and disgust and say why!? he would never take chances (sometimes he did) but i noticed he had no confidence in our offense he always would just make us settle for a FIELD GOAL then clap like yeah GREAT were still down 3434234 points but we only need half a yard for a 1st down and we were pushing down field nicely but well just go for the 3.... Or if we have 25 seconds left and start doing something he would just tell them to take a knee and go into the locker room rather then try a few plays maybe get in field goal range before half? 3 points would be nice with 25 sec's left and we tried to get it before half rather then take a knee like he always made us do like he HAD NO FAITH IN US.. no wonder PLAYERS got so FRUSTRATED thank gosh he is GONE! good riddance thank you for the SB and a "FEW" good years of coaching.

I mean some things he would do you would realize how obvious it was to not make that call and go for it on a short 4th and 1 a middle schooler could have made better decissions lots of times then he had when it came down to being in field goal range and instead of going for it punting it away and like i said before kicking the field goal when were down by A LOT instead of going for the short 4th and 1 instead of kicking the FG to try and get the TD.

Sometimes they would have been like 52 yard fgs but he wouldn't go for it he would PUNT SHEEESH give it a shot! heck we had Wayne Richey for awhile who had a LEG on him and we never used him.. Stover's leg wont allow him to kick 50 yarders really anymore he is more of a 40 yard guy.

but i noticed he had no confidence in our offense

can you blame him?

he made the right decisions most of the time. the OL was collapsing in less than 1 second, it was a miracle that that mcgahee was able to carry the team into field goal range without any blocking either. if manning or brady was our QB and we went for it on 4th down they would just get sacked or force fumbled, or incomplete...we would just turn the ball over. we're talking about an offense that can hardly score, not the pats offense...where its worth the risk (thats why those teams have the most 4th down attempts). billick knew the offense's capability and knew his kicker's accuracy, he made the right choices. and many of the ravens wins were won by those field goals. if we turned the ball over you would blame him for going for it and losing the ball either way. you're just looking for a scapegoat.

i'm not saying he was perfect, the only thing i didn't agree with was his position on boller and the fact he waited too long to put in smith. but he did win the superbowl right after taking over the ravens, and he did have a great winning percentage. ppl complain about a lot of things like too conservative and running the ball too much. so this season he came out with passing but mcnair and boller got killed because of the protection. then when the qbs only had time to complete a short pass, ppl complain that he doesnt choose better plays that send the reciever down field. and then a few games later he does just that, watch the film, u can see guys like clayton running down field but the qb is getting beat up before the wr gets even 5 yards down the field! and yet its still billick's fault right? im not even going to mention the injury plagued roster.

in 06 billick takes over the playcalling and he's a hero right? 13-3. next year if harbaugh or cameron cant get the offense started because they r still waiting for the young OL to develop i guess we should blame the coaches again right? stop blaming the coaches. look at marvin lewis...he led the best d - now he has no players to duplicate the success. billick led the best o...and he was in the same situation but at least billick brought us a rushing attack...at least thats something.

Well stated. Everyone Thought Billick was a genius after leading us to a 13-3 season while He was calling the plays. He wasnt perfect by any means, but He is a elite HC, alot of people wanna blame Billick for Boller and such, but it wasnt him who drafted Boller, thats was Ozzie and the scouting dept. Boller IMO just needed a elite OC to build around his talants.

Marty got fired for his inabilty to win in the playoffs, the chargers thought they was the best team in the league and that "Marty Ball" showed up. Billick's was more of a mystery, but IMO it was because the Ravens Organization and fans had high expections coming into the season, after all the injuries Billick got blamed for it. Sorta similar reasons.. Both thought there teams were better and should have made it further then they did.

Well, why is he putting players on the field that cant get the job done. Brian Billick is a head strong man and he ran the Ravens with an iron fist. Ozzie gave him what he wanted and he didnt know how to use the players, its his fault. Taking McGahee out on 3rd and long to put in Musa Smith when McGahee is faster and has better hands. It took him half the season to realize that Adam Terry was struggling at RT and bench him for Yanda. McNair was obviously hurt early in the season and struggling. It took for McNair to get a second more serious injury for Billick to finally pull him for a healthy Boller.

Marty got fired because he was butting heads with the GM. Billick got fired because he was a mediocre coach, who has had his share of chances. The Ravens have had the talent to be contenders every year this decade but horrible decisions and game management from the head coaching position screwed them over. And Billick's luck finally ran out. And I will say it again: 5 and 11 VS. 14 and 2. A 5-11 record itself without any further explanation justifies firing the head coach. Firing someone after being 14-2 is a mystery.

He put it Musa Smith because McGahee had no gas left. McGahee was in horrible football shape. He admitted to that. He has been recovering from injuries and also had a poor football diet. He is not able to carry the ball on every down and just doesnt have the stamina. He needed an IV in some games. He said hes going to get back into shape for next season, hopefully that works out, he needs to get into the right shape and diet and stuff. McGahee is not Jamal Lewis, Lewis can take 30 carries and pound the football.

I agree that billick he has no clue when it comes to OLman tho or maybe he did but he just didnt have the players. Its not like he had anyone better on the depth chart. The only people who were on the roster who are nfl material were Jason Brown and Johnathan Ogden and Ben Grubbs. Thats only 3 people and no depth. Anyone would be hesitant to start a rookie. When Yanda started, he was even worse but it was worth a shot to give him some experience anyway. But then again Flynn was getting shoved flat on his back after every snap and billick still didn't pull him out which does lead me to question some of his decisions. But a lot of these problems could've been fixed by a new OL coach and a new OC which were going to happen either way, billick or no billick.

I wonder how long it will take for fans to be able to talk about Billick's new activities without getting into a completely recycled and, in this case, irrelevant argument.

Come on, no matter how you felt about him, he's gone and he's a professor now--do we really have to go through this every time someone mentions his name, especially with a new season to look forward to?

I agree with you some however the great team that he coached was already being built by Phil Savage & Ozzie Newsom when Billick was hired. Billick never did what he was brought in to do and that is to generate offense. He made several fundamental mistakes some of which were personnel related and was stubborn. Not a bad trait if you REALY know what you're doing. I think Billick's biggest downfall is that he could not develope a quarterback. The rushing attack was successful because it was situational. If you remember he threw 3 times beginning on a second and three situation because he knew they couldn't run it in that situation. He is one heck of an X's & O's guy but much like Ted Marchabroda he had trouble evaluating talent.

It wont happen because there are still people that wont accept the fact that we have a new coach. You cant please everybody.

It's not a HC's job to develop QB's. This is why that have brought in so many diffrent coaching postions. Its the QB coach and the OC's job to develop talant.

I do aggree Billick was very stubborn, He should have hired a elite OC and let him worry about the Offense. Being a HC is alot of work already, worrying about the Offense all the time was his Downfall.
