Macromedia Flash 9

22 posts in this topic

Randomly a couple of days ago the site stopped showing the little slides with news on the home page and were replaced bye the whole "you must have macromedia flash 9" message. I have adobe flash 10 (the site's link goes to adobe for updates). Do I really need to roll back to 9 now just because the site is freaking out all of a sudden?

On a side note, I have not added or removed any antivirus, spyware blockers, etc...any kind of software...and have not made any changes to existing software.

Thank you for pointing out this problem. I had passed along your comments to our web site developer. They will look into the issue. I may contact you to ask some questions to help further diagnose the issue.

The error console in Firefox shows this message:

[NoScript] Blocking cross-site Javascript served from http://jqueryjs.googlecode.com/files/jquery-1.3.2.min.js with wrong type info text/x-c, attachment; filename="jquery-1.3.2.min.js" and included by http://www.baltimoreravens.com/?homepage=true

I already had googlecode mark as Allowed, and NoScript was already instructed to allow anything on baltimoreravens.com to pass through. The problem seems to have something to do with jQuery, but I'm unsure of how to proceed with that knowledge in mind. Maybe your tech guys can solve this one?

BritishRaven & Lightlock,

You said you haven't been able to watch videos. Is it just from the video player on the home page module?  Or are you also not able to watch videos on the Video landing page and/or in the Media Player module in the right rail of many pages?

Also, can you please share what browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc.) you are on as well as platform (Mac or PC)?

Thanks!

I can't watch videos from the home page or the videos page. I can't find anywhere on the site to watch the videos; and incidently, I can't see the photos page either, although I can see the photos used in the news articles.

I'm using Firefox on Windows XP.

I have also screencapped the home page and videos page just in case they will be of some use.

Glad to be of help.

Thanks for the info and thanks also for your patience.

Our WebDev guy said that NoScript is JS blocker and that will continue to block Google's serving of Jquery, even though you have allowed the Ravens site.

Here's some information he found: http://buildinternet.com/2009/07/animate-curtains-opening-with-jquery/
The problem for Firefox users is most likely with NoScript. It seems that NoScript is blocking Build Internet from getting the JQuery JavaScript file from Google code (The error refers to a problem with the file name not matching). Here is the complete error from the Error Console:

[NoScript] Blocking cross site Javascript served from http://jqueryjs.googlecode.com/files/jquery-1.3.2.js with wrong type info attachment; filename=”jquery-1.3.2.js” and included by http://buildinternet.com/live/curtains/#

For some reason Allowing buildinternet.com in NoScript isn’t working, nor is Allowing Scripts globally. This goes to show how picky NoScript is about file names, but I guess all for the better. My guess would be simply disabling from the Addons window NoScript or going into settings and allowing scripts to be included from other domains will fix this. I, though, am going to avoid all that hassle and view it in Chrome. That should work! (Or James could host the JQuery script on BuildInternet and the problem should vanish)
WebDev was curious to know, if you try to disable the plug-in altogether (not just allowing the Ravens site), does the flash work?

I turned off NoScript from the add-ons window and everything went back to normal. The front page screen is back and I can watch videos. I hope there is a proper fix though; I don't want to have to turn NoScript off everytime I visit this website in the future. Does your WebDev guy know what happened to cause this change back in the end of October?

Thanks for the present solution though. It's great just to finally be able to watch the videos.

Great to hear that! I'm glad to see that it's working for you again. I've already asked our WebDev about finding a proper fix.

I found a fix after doing a quick search. Apparently somebody else on this site asked around.

http://forums.informaction.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5305

In summary:

* Type "about:config" in the address bar.
* Press Enter.
* Click "I'll be careful, I promise!"
* Paste "noscript.inclusionTypeChecking.exceptions" in the Filter field.
* Double-click on the key.
* Paste "jqueryjs.googlecode.com" into the prompt.
* Click OK.
* Open a new tab.
* Browse to the Ravens website

Problem solved.

Glad to also see that you found this. We're currently working on a permanent fix that would prevent the problem from occurring without users needing to be able to do manual fixes like these.

That didn't fix the problem for me.

I have another question for you. We received an email from a fan who is experiencing the same issues. He sees the "You need Flash Player" message on the homepage and videos page.

He also is getting a 404 error page when he tries to submit a message through the Contact Us page: http://www.baltimoreravens.com/About/Contact_Us.aspx

In addition, when he clicks into a news article, he can view the text of the article, but not see any fan comments beneath.

Are you experiencing either one of these issues as well?

Nope, the Contact Us page seems fine and I still can see the comments below news articles.

This is great to hear! We pushed a fix live on Friday afternoon that we were hoping would be a solution. Glad to hear that it worked! Thanks also for being patient and helping us work through the issue.

Have a great week!

No problem, as someone with a degree in web design, I more than understand how difficult it can be to pinpoint an issue, especially when you just have a general idea of what's wrong. I hadn't run into such an issue before, so I couldn't offer any help.
