Ravens Looking For Strength

17 posts in this topic

since the arrival of Head Coach john Harbaugh and the hiring of his new coaching staff....Harbaugh has maintained the same mentality throughout this whole process and now it looks as if things are starting to pay off for him. he stressed the issue of getting Bigger, Getting Stronger, getting better...using Free weights ALOT more than the machines. Many of the Coaches and players alike have noticed a Big Difference....

"....Guys are running sprints, they're coming out bent over, sucking wind and throwing up," DeCosta said. "I've been very, very encouraged from what I've seen so far. I think you're going to see a difference in this team in terms of strength and conditioning, particularly with the offensive and defensive lines. This kind of conditioning pays off in the long run. This can only help us later...."

"It's back to power, pure powerlifting instead of resistance," Ravens linebacker Bart Scott said. "I like the philosophy, especially with the offensive line. Those guys are going to be McNasty."

I like the emphasis on strength conditioning. This will greatly improve our Oline, and the fact that he is making everyone, from QB to Linemen to WRs lift is good news. Maybe now our receivers will be able to get around a defender and get some extra yards.

I also look forward to who's going to win the starting QB role. As much as I want it to be Smith, sounds like McNair is stepping it up -->

"Quarterback Steve McNair recently gave up vacation time with his family in Florida to participate in workouts. Coming off rotator-cuff surgery, McNair has been lifting regularly and throwing to teammates." "McNair seems determined to prove he has several years of good football left in him."

This off season has got me excited and I cant wait to see our new Ravens.

This new approach to the conditioning program is hit-or-miss, but I like what I'm hearing, so far.

The only risk is, obviously, doing more harm in the short-term and suffering another rash of injuries. However, I firmly believe that, in the long-term, the program will pay off, as there should be a decrease in wear-and-tear since players are subjecting their bodies to abuse NOW and getting acclimated (hence the term "CONDITIONING").

But, of course, going back to that short-term risk, that's the type of risk that every team takes in the offseason with conditioning programs, as players will never admit when enough is enough and will continually push themselves past their limit. So all-in-all, I'm not horribly concerned.

In all honesty, it just puts a smile on my face, knowing that the team is at least working hard and taking an old-school approach to things with a new-school twist.

I believe the frontline guys will be monsters at the beginning of the season. I think our D-Line will be impossible to stop now.. Or atleast somewhat harder with the new training they are doing now.

this tells me that his main concern is to win the battle in the trenches because we all know what a good o-line or d-line does for the rest of the unit. I just hope he doesn't wear the guys out, otherwise we'll have to send them to cryogenic labs in order to be fresh for the playoffs. (did he say playoffs, oh no he didn't!)

Thatd be the shizzle if that happened.. A new start hittin the playoffs.......... Thatd be the best thing ever.... EVERRRRRRR.. lol. Glad hes focusing on the battle in the trenches. Hes right though. Any team that wins that battle has a higher chance of winning.

Nice stuff. You win starting with the lines & especially in past years our O-Line has be pushed around some. This hopefully is the 1st sign of very good things to come for this team. Our D-line has been great & this should only make them better.

Nice job Harbs!

I feel sorry for the player, from personal experience, that kinda stuff is tuff.

Yeah, I've been there too with the tons of sprints and even being in shape and ended up puking (although I was a soccer/track/swimming guy). It's really not fun.

At the same time, you don't get anywhere by not destroying yourself early in the season. It's impossible to build muscle during the season by comparison, taking advantage of prep time like this is huge.

Foremost, I am excited to see the apparently warm reception harbaugh is getting from the team and the way the team appears to respond to his challenges and style. Seems like the Ravens got a real winner, though only time will tell.

but we all must remember and keep in mind (which im dead sure the players are doing the exact same) that all this hard work and training will eventually have pay-offs and be very beneficial for the team's overall performance level because they will be able to go longer, play harder, play faster, play smarter....all from what they are doing now and in the future.

it helps us in the long short run of the football world because it also, offers the players on the team..a better endge on their opponent because they would be considered as "one step above the rest" and in which is the real test.

which means whenever i hear people say Ray has lost a step.. It goes down to 9 but now since they are worker harder he'll go back up to 10... 10 steps ahead of every LBacker in the NFL instead of 9.. lol

i think that this is a very effective way of teaching those key fundamentals of basic football and the old concept of "Strength Win's" comes to mind because seeing how the teams of today and Football in general is a sport in which "the strong will rise to the top" type deal....this type of training and conditioning means only one thing....Pure Power, a pretty basic concept thats often overlooked for Explosiveness but should not be under-estimated.....and i think that with our guys going back to the basics of football core strength and what not, HarBaugh is again..stressing the utter-most importance of becoming that of the most dominant Team in our division and quite possibly the NFL in general. this concept really brings to life the value of true Hard work and dedication....a term and tran of thought in which the Ravens abroad, have stressed over and over in this recent change of coaching personel.

wrong, a team is always looking to get bigger and always looking to get stronger..(the right way like Bart said "All natural!")....there isnt a team ever in the NFL that hasnt had a mindset of "ok guys we reached our Strength quota...time to quit".......no, your always looking for that extra edge over your opponent and your always looking to improve you overall play.....which is precisely why.......there is no limitations to how strong you can become and better overall as a player.
