Anyone Ever Been A Best Man?

18 posts in this topic

I got my best mates wedding coming up in 2 weeks and I'm the best man. I'm wondering if any of you have done this before and if you have any advice for me?

Thanks.

Advice with regards to what?

Throw him a bachelor party: Keep him out of trouble and write a respectable toast.

UPDATE: Wait. I see you're from the UK. You guys tend to get away with more than we do over here.

Throw him a bachelor party and write a funny speech. ;-)

Lol. Yeah, I guess I didn't think about the subtle differences we would have! The bachelor party has already been done, we spent a weekend away. I was talking more about the day itself! Any do's and dont's I should be aware of etc?

Been there twice.....

Help him through it, calm him down if he freaks, don't drop the rings and always, ALWAYS make sure his glass is full!!

Been best man a couple of times. Just be around to talk to. Don't go waddling away with a wife/girl. There's not much to it.

I've got four under my belt. Two words. Have fun.

Its easier than it seems. Just do your part to make it a beautiful day.

Just be you. You're his best man for a reason.Really not much to it, make your toast a good one, and take lots of pics.

Make sure the speech contains lots of information about the groom that he doesn't want people (especially his new wife) to know about.

Oddly, a couple of weeks ago, I was asked by my brother to be his best man.

I've got all kinds of stories about him... just need to narrow it down to a couple by May.

The only thing that comes to mind is that you use restraint and class with the speech. That is probably going to be the main thing for which you will be judged. Unless of course you do something like "DON'T DO IT GARY" on the back of your tux. lol

Just an update. The wedding was yesterday and everything went smoothly! The pressures of being a Best Man are definitely overrated.

Thanks for all the advice.

I'm guessing the bachelor party pics weren't leaked, then.
