Phil Savage Has Lost It

10 posts in this topic

Here's part of an NFL wrap up by Michael Silver on Yahoo! Sports.

Is Browns general manager Phil Savage seeing little green men outside his office window, or is he just having a little fun at the media's expense? I'm hoping it's the latter, but I'm not especially confident that's the case after reading Savage's comments in the Cleveland Plain Dealer detailing his decision to increase the team's contract offer to quarterback Derek Anderson. Savage said he feared the Cowboys would sign Anderson, then a restricted free agent, to a contract that contained a "poison pill" that the Browns couldn't match

it all makes sense. little green men equipped with poison pills and out to get Derek Anderson with the intention to trade him to Miami.....

its the work of some highly intelligent dolphins! and they've brainwashed some Cowboys personnel in order to abduct Anderson and recruit him to Miami where they believe he can lead him to the promise land!

talk about paranoia...

yes very interesting read....and i must say.....Savage must get his priorities straight and within Line here...based on what was said there.....it sounds like a little kid saying (more or less) "i dont want o give up my toys to the other kids!....its mine! all mine! not yours!"...and looks as though it can or already has, cost them.

All I can say is regardless of how he feels here or whatever his viewpoint is, ever since he came into our organization he has done nothing but good and draft well overall.. so because of that, I'll stick by his stance. IMO, Anderson isn't a 100% lock to be our opening day starter if the right trade offer comes along anyways.

well i think there is no question there about his drafting ability and there's no question there about what he's turned the browns back into....i think the question here is more so along the lines of "why is savage over paying is players to make sure they stay with the team" type deal.

"why is savage over paying is players to make sure they stay with the team"

I think that kind of answers itself.

in a way yes.....based on what they had done/accomplished during thr course of last season BUT there's still the ever looming issue of "money" and affordability......spending all that money right now...COULD 9im saying could because it could go either way) Could have negative turn arounds not because of the Player's ability, but because of "how much" they paid them to either stay a brown or become a Brown.

with the CBA extending over the past three years, the salary cap rose from $85.5 M in 2005 to the current $116 M, it's no wonder we are seeing more and more record deals for certain positions. It might seem like overpayment now, but we can begin to expect these type of figures.

The details of the Stallworth and Anderson deal makes it very easy to get rid of either after this season, without paying them any type of bonus. The contracts are structured so that we're going to be 30 millish under the cap again next year.
