There are several coaches on the Hot Seat as far as their jobs go. Of these, there are several Ravens coaches on the list. What are our thoughts about bringing on or more of these guys back?

I voted Marvin Lewis, but I wouldn't mind seeing any of the three back here on the side lines coaching with us again. IMO I think Jack is going to be the first to get the can out of the three. Mike will probably get another shot next season if the 49ers continue to crash and burn. Marvin I think will get another season as well if they don't turn it around, but who knows up there in Cincy with Brown!

In what capacity would you like to see them brought back?

Singletary was a linebacker coach before moving on. I know we brought Monachino in to help with the pass rush, but so far, it hasn't produced. Perhaps he could help in this capacity.

Both Del Rio and Lewis were exceptional defensive coordinators and with the talk of Mattison not living up to expectations, either one of thses could come in as an assistant or even as Defensive Coordinator if the Ravens decide to make a move.

What can Monachino do? He's worked with all the d-lineman rushing the passer but there are simply no natural pass rushers along the d-line.

While I haven't agreed with some of the things Mattison has done, he isn't working with the dominant personnel we've been spoiled with here in Baltimore.

At first I thought this was going to be a thread on all coaches who are on the hot seat... and I was wondering where Wade Phillips, Chan Gailey, Josh McDaniels, Norv Turner, Lovie Smith and John Fox were but I didn't see the part where it only mentioned the 3 coaches who use to be here.

Del Rio- Great Defensive Mind... just not a great Head Coach. Del Rio will be fired I believed and will be a defensive coordinator somewhere in the league in 2011. Here... Maybe, not sure.

Marvin Lewis- I'll say this, I think the Bengals learned something from us when we gave Billick a contract extension and how things fell apart and we fired him after giving him a big contract extension. Right now that would be the case for Marvin, they get a team every once in a few years that is good to be in the playoffs and win the division than fall off after that. As we see, that is the case once again this season. If Marvin gets extended it may only be for a 1-2 year deal that will be a now or never deal where if Marvin don't win, he's done. Though I would think they are also like the way we were in 2007, it was just time for a change.

Mike Singletary- He'll get another chance. He deserves it. The media put the pressure of winning the NFC West on them.. and since Singletary is a new guy... that means he wants to find "his guy" at QB. In which that will be the case next year. Singletary has slowly been putting the pieces together, Crabtree at WR, Mike Iupati and Anthony Davis on the offensive line, Taylor Mays in the secondary. Give it another year or two, with the 49ers having a true QB, they will be contenders.

To be honest I feel like we are the Giants after they lost Steve Spagnolo. They hired a new DC and just that the DC they had couldn't figure a way to make use of all the talent they had on defense. It just wound up being that it was right personnel but wrong scheme. That's how I feel about Mattison. We have the talent to be a great defensive unit(well when haven't had a great defense) but Mattison doesn't know how to use them.

I would prefer to have anyone of them replace Mattison.
[/quote]

yes I prefer anyone not just the 3 listed to replace Mattison. Like I stated above, Mattison doesn't know how to use the great defensive players well.

I voted for Singletary, because I feel that should he get canned in the City by the Bay, he would most likely come back to Baltimore and do the same excellent job he has done coaching linebackers in the past.

I disagree.

To me, objectively analyzing the D shows the talent isn't there to have a great D. Ngata is having a DPOY-worthy season and Ray is performing at a relatively high level but who else is truly standing out? On the front seven, you have two players in Gregg and J.J. having poor seasons, there's only one true pass rusher in Suggs and the rest of the players in Redding, McKinney, Ellerbe and McClain are decent but unspectacular. In the defensive backfield, the most consistent CB this year has been Cris Carr. Zibby and Landry have had their struggles in coverage, tackling and failed to make big plays too. Ed's showed his play-making skills coming back but it also highlighted just how poor the CBs played against the Bills with him unable to get over the top when they were beat the line of scrimmage.

The decline in the team's pass rush since '06 and lapses in coverage goes back to the draft. Since '05, the team's first draft pick has been a defensive player only twice(Ngata in '06 and Kindle this past season). I'm not faulting the FO at all because the offense needed to be upgraded but picks like Chester, Williams, Grubbs, Figurs, Yanda, Flacco, Rice and Oher have negatively affected the D.

More often than note, successful coaches have good/great players playing for them. Bill Belicheck is known as a great defensive coach but his defenses have been average since he lost guys like Bruschi, McGinest, Harrison, Law and Samuel.
