All Bartlett trades are off. Link

Wow, that's pathetic. All they wanted was Reimold and Alfredo "I give up a HR every appearance" Simon. Typical Orioles.... Reimold is injury prone and can't hit or field. I don't understand.

Now Pena is off the market. Hopefully we can get Konerko now. I also saw earlier on that linked site about us being interested in Jim Thome. That'd be nice, if he was capable of playing first.

The White Sox have re-signed Konerko.

Thome is strictly a DH.

Yanks have made a formal offer to Lee, possibly in the 6 year, $140M range... if I'm the O's I go for it and add a 7th year for the same or a little more money. I mean, why not?????? Of course Andy Mac and Angelos won't, but a rotation of Lee, Matusz, Guthrie, Arrieta and Tillman/Britton/Patton could be something special.

Andy isn't one to pay top dollar for players that only play once every five games... he never got the whole pitching and defense wins championships memo

Yeah, and a team like the O's is going to have to overpay to get players to come here, and until our front office and owner realize that we are going to continue to be a (much) below-average team, even with Buck at the helm.

Yeah, MacPhail can't seem to close any significant deals! What's the problem? Make a splash! Overpay for a Crawford or Lee; bring back the fans! Show us you want to win instead of sticking to your plan that isn't really working, especially since he isn't sticking to his promise that he was going to buy the bats! Trade for Fielder and pay him a king's ransom. Get. It. Done.

Please Cliff, don't be about the money like most athletes and see that NY offer and take it, please stay with the Rangers. They almost won a World Series, stay with the Rangers who are closer to a championship than the aging Yankees.

Nevermind, the Red Sox just landed Crawford. 7 years, $142 million... Wow, we're doomed.

damn.... if Lee doesn't sign with the Yankees we will be good, but Crawford going to Boston worries me. Seeing all of this, I hate to do this but we need a new Front Office who is willing to spend money in Free Agency. Any other GM would have completed the trade for Barlett but no not Double A(Andy & Angelos) and I'm sure we could have landed a good FA with the right money offer. I say clean house and get Double A out and get people who is willing to spend money.

Just read on ESPN that The Rangers are still in the running for Lee, and that the Rangers went to his agent to see what it would take to sign him long term and so the Rangers president is thinking of whether to go 6 years or not which they are willing to do. Come on Lee, just sign with the Rangers and have it be 1 less worry for the Orioles.

I disagree. Our front office has been blowing up phones every day talking to free agents and teams. We are talking to JJ Hardy right now.

The difference is: a) We wont over pay for someone. b.) that person wants to go to NY and Boston because those teams are already stacked. We call this the LeBron James effect

"Orioles to acquire JJ Hardy"

done deal pending physicals... along we JJ, we'll receive INF Brendan Harris and give up two pitchers, most likely Jim Hoey and Brett Jacobson according to the source

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/12/orioles-trade-for-hardy-imminent.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

love the move... the O's are a better team than they were last year, already.. plus a healthy Roberts and another year for Wieters should do wonders. The over/under is up to 70 wins!!

Solid move. Hardy didn't have a good campaign last season but is still an offensive upgrade over Izturis(not that that's not saying much).

Keep up the proactivity!

Looks like the Yanks added a 7th year to their Lee offer... they're really desperate now. Hopefully the Rangers will do the same, but that's not likely to happen. Here's to another losing season and last place in the AL East.

Looks like the O's are looking to sign Adam LaRoche. Link

I really hope this move falls through.

Meh, it just says mutual interest. We also have interest in Derrick Lee

"Mutual interest" is still better than having an associate of the player in question saying he'll never play for the team targeting him as we saw with Konerko.

J.J. Hardy is definitely a better option than trading Reimold to get Jason Bartlett
Assuming Reimold can make good on the promise he showed in '08.

I think you meant you want the deal to go forward because if it fell through that means we don't get him... either way, it wont change much; maybe we get closer to 72-75 wins? Still well behind the Sox and Yanks.

My mistake; wrong idiom. Obviously the team would be behind the Sox and Yankees even with these moves. The Rays were able to compete with and overtake them for a little bit but now they've fallen back behind due to the economics of baseball.

Quit being so negative. The offseason is a time for optimism. Our roster is much improved already and I think we could win 80+ games and possibly finish 3rd

Whats the deal with Corey Patterson? I know he is a FA now. Also, I missed most of the mid-August games on, but I know they weren't ever really using him. But is there any room for him? He seemed pretty consistent in his short stint back here.

It's not like I don't think we've improved, because we clearly have... it's just never going to be enough to overtake the Sox and Yanks. Until we spend money, we won't compete, it's that simple in today's baseball economy. The Rays are clearly an aberration and we're not close to having that sort of talent. I'm "negative" because we haven't had a winning season in 13 straight seasons and only showed promise the last month of last season.

Thats the problem with baseball....The little knowledge/enjoyment I have for the game is due to the <lack of> salary cap. The big market teams can simply by championships year after year. Of course, just like anything, there can be the random anomaly with another team winning it, but the Sox's and Yanks will continue their domination for financial reasons. Its so predictable...
