He isn't Gonzalez but at the least the O's are pursuing Mark Reynolds. Link

I'll pass for that asking price... this guy strikes out as much if not more than Adam Dunn. This is really getting sad.

plenty of rumors surrounding a trade for Mark Reynolds... honestly, I'd rather see him here than Konerko as long as they keep the 2110 in Baltimore for years to come.. we'll just have to wait and see how it all plays out
my wish was granted... Reynolds strikes out a lot, but he can play either of the corner infield positions and is almost a lock for 35 HRs every year... I'll take it, especially giving up only David Hernandez and Dan Mickolio

great move in my opinion

Love the Reynolds trade.

However, I have learned that Ty Wiggington is meeting with the Rockies....

Don't Reynolds and Wiggington play the same position? So wouldn't getting Reynolds be getting a replacement for Ty?

Please Andy, do not let Ty slip away. I know Ty will want to win but please do what you can to keep him here. They have a core group of players that they should keep together and Ty is one of them, don't let him go!

Ty can play anywhere really, infield or outfield. He is a great tool for our offense and defense.

I would rather have Wiggy, to be honest . I was hoping it was in the cards to KEEP Wiggy also. Ughh. Reynolds is an adequate feilder, has good pop but chases a LOT of junk and strikes out a LOT! We need to supplemenet the current line-up, not rebuild it IMO.

Just read this ESPN article on the Reynolds acquisition.

Two things that struck me as interesting:
Last season, Baltimore managed only 133 home runs, its fewest since 1990. Its infield accounted for only 45 home runs, just one more than Reynolds had in his breakout 2009 season. And in 2010, Reynolds' .433 slugging percentage far exceeded the collective .345 slugging pct of the Orioles' infield.

Believe it or not, one area where he might be an upgrade is defensively. Orioles third basemen ranked third-worst in the AL last season with -9 runs saved, a Baseball Info Solutions stat that measures a player’s ability to turn batted balls into outs and defend bunts. Reynolds, the 2009 Web Gem Championship runner-up to Ryan Zimmerman, finished 2010 with -3 runs saved at the hot corner, but he's rated negatively in each of the last four seasons.
I still think it's a fine addition but more needs to be done.

If we can work on his strikeouts, this could be a steal, assuming Hernandez and Mick don't both become lights-out guys...

We should be able to keep wiggy if we don't low ball him like we have been thus far...

apparently the O's received cash and/or a player to be named later... not sure who it came from, but one of the reporters at the winter meetings... reading through some of the D'backs fan forums, they're saying that they're going to miss the HRs, but also how great Reynolds was in the field... pretty cool

I'm following it at:

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/Big-League-Stew-s-Winter-Meetings-Tracker-Mond?urn=mlb-292194&cp=3#comments

pretty cool stuff.. they've said there's a ton of interest in Josh Bell, but Showalter says bell can play first.

Apparently the Mets are listening to offers on anyone (Wright, Reyes, Beltran)... nothing prominent, but it would be awesome if the O's could land Jose Reyes...

hey, we can all dream, right?

Blue Jays, Orioles Interested In Carlos Pena
By Tim Dierkes [December 6 at 4:24pm CST]

4:24pm: The Orioles still have interest in Pena, though his asking price is currently too high, according to MLB.com's Brittany Ghiroli (on Twitter).

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/

-----

wouldn't mind Pena... power hitting lefty in Oriole Park and a gold glover -- shouldn't overpay, though.. getting old, average was terrible last year.. on the decline???

#Orioles arer interested in (RHP) Kevin Gregg [via Twitter]

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/Big-League-Stew-s-Winter-Meetings-Tracker-Mond?urn=mlb-292194&cp=3#comments

Gregg has posted decent numbers the past few years as a closer and in the set-up role... we definitely need help in the bullpen, especially after letting go of Hernandez and Mick. He's not the long term answer, though. Like Pena, wouldn't mind seeing it happen

#Orioles considering 1B options. Have talked internally about #Nationals Josh Willingham. Wiggy still a possbty http://bit.ly/dHTkSy

-----

looks like the O's still have strong interest in Wiggy. I like him as a utility player, but not as a starter. His value has never been higher, so we'll have to see what kind of contract he's looking for

yeah.. it was the one of the worst statistical years of his career and still hit 28 bombs lol

over the past 4 years he's had 144 HRs (36 per year average), 407 RBIs (102), and a .238 average

Sure, he's most likely on the decline, like I said, but no question he's an upgrade over Adkins/Bell (at this point). Pena also walks a lot, too, so his OBP is almost always over .100 higher than his average... I think pursuing a power hitting lefty in this park would do wonders.

I doubt it is. Pie is somewhat injury-prone but he can hold down the left field position.

It's probably the other pieces of the deal that the teams are negotiating.

I would like to have Pena for more pop but we are Loaded with lefties in the line-up, thats the only downside, IMO.

$7.5 Million over 2 years isn't much, I'm surprised the O's didn't match that because they should have.

The O's may wanna bring back George Sherril, and i believe i heard Sherril will like to come back to Baltimore. He "loves the city, fans, and the organization treats people very good".
too lazy to find the link lol but it could be just a rumor.

I'm hearing on The Fan that it's looking like just a Reimold for Bartlett deal, a supposed win-win for both clubs. The Rays are looking to dump payroll and need a LF with Crawford leaving and the O's are in dire need of a SS. I hope this gets done today...

I also heard rumors that we've been in contact with the Brewers about Fielder. He's a Boras client in the last year of his deal, so any trade for Fielder would be predicated upon a prior contract extension being agreed upon. I say we go for it, for the right price of course (prospects and contract).

I heard the same thing. Reimold has potential but like you said, the O' need a SS like Bartlett.

Even though we haven't seen him at the ML level, it'd be tough to see Britton traded away. Still, if that's what it takes to make Fielder an Oriole...do it, do it!
