Yeah, I wouldn't say that.

Same here. It's a little bit like the Kyle Boller argument in that maybe Alex Smith would've had a better career if he wasn't given so many setbacks early in his development. But at the same time, Alex has shown more poise under fire than Troy. Though part of it has to do with the simple fact that Alex has played more games than Troy, another factor is that Alex also has had his ego taken down several notches and has had to grow up and become mentally tougher at an accelerated pace. As a former 1st overall pick, Alex had more pressure to live up to his expectations than Troy, especially with the label of "draft bust" being more prominently associated with Alex than Troy.

To Alex's credit, he responded well to nearly being benched a couple of weeks ago, nearly leading his 49ers to a comeback after a fairly decent deficit. That takes mental toughness that some guys just don't have.

Honestly, in the 2008 pre-season, Kyle Boller was outperforming him - enough said.<br />
why do you say he was arrogant and full of bravado?
I remember in college he got labeled for that, but didnt see that when he was with us.

Just his overall demeanor, what I've seen, read, and heard about him. Really, his (his agents') comment on "crawling to Cleveland" in the midst of a playoff push bothered me. He was the back-up QB.

2nd drive of the game, he lead them down the field for a field goal after only throwing 1 incompletion the entire drive

frank gore led them

Yep I am following this on NFL.com Gamecenter and Troy Smith is 5/10 for 49 yards, while Gore has 18 carries for 87 yards. So it looks Troy isn't doing well, but with Vernon Davis out of the game that does hurt Troy a little and puts more emphasis on Gore and the running game.

Troy Smith to Crabtree.

How come they weren't doing this earlier?

Troy Smith did pretty well. I was surprised. Now I wonder if Troy keeps it up, if the 49ers move away from drafting a QB in the 2011 Draft. I actually think this was the best scenario for Troy to go into, he has a chance to show he can start and considering the 49ers have the weapons in Crabtree, Davis and a running game with Frank Gore, Troy entered a great situation.

Good performance by Troy but let's put this in perspective: the 49ers won because they ran the ball on the Broncos, the same way we did.

Not bad considering he probably had no reps with the offense. Broncos aren't exactly good though.

It's hilarious to me how the Broncos are "good" when Flacco plays them... but when Troy beats them with no snaps with the team, and dealing with the Ravens pretty much screwing him over keeping him on the roster until right before the season... all of a sudden... well, the Broncos are just another bad team.

Y'all can keep doing wacco for flacco. But Troy Smith is better. Just wait until after their BYE when they realize they should be playing Ted Ginn more with Troy at QB.

Funny... because that reminds me of another team I know. The Ravens do good when they run the ball. When they abandon the run, they barely scrape by the Buffalo Bills.

So the Ravens should have continued to run the ball down 24-10 when it was clear the D couldn't stop Fitzpatrick and Co.?

They attempted to put the game away running the ball but the ball was fumbled away.

The Troy Smith / Joe Flacco debates are over :34853_shakehead: They've been over for about 3 years now. Joe Flacco is, by far, the better quarterback, there's really nothing factual you can say against that.

Anyways, to this post.. As someone else pointed out, the Ravens had to overcome large deficits throughout the game, throwing the ball, with a good QB and all of his weapons, is the best way to do it. Also, we actually ran the ball 30 times that game. By comparison, we passed 32 times. That's not a huge difference and, actually, a fairly conservative ratio (It was ~51.5% pass; for comparisons sake, we were ~54% in all of 2009).

Today, Frank Gore alone had 29 carries, Troy Smith had 19 total attempts. Again, the 49ers won because they ran the ball of a soft Broncos run-D. I could have played QB and won for them.

You know what's hilarious? Your incredibly flawed logic. Did I say that the Broncos were "good" when Flacco played them? I think most Ravens fans knew that they weren't that good, and Orton got his passing yards against the 49ers just like he did against us. Troy didn't do anything that spectacular today, he made a couple of nice plays. If Flacco had a game like that you'd be tearing his head off, so just cut the crap. Yeah, the Ravens screwed Troy Smith over by drafting him, and waiting to release him because they wanted to get something in trade value. Go root for the 49ers, I doubt you'll be missed much around here.

I think the Ravens had bigger things to consider than "screwing over" third-stringer Troy Smith by waiting until the beginning of the regular season to cut him loose.

I also didn't know that Ted Ginn needed his childhood best friend at QB to suddenly make him a good WR. I had this assumption that good NFL players could play with almost anyone as their teammate.

Why can I only positive this once?!

But seriously, Troy Smith and Ted Ginn are bad, no matter what our resident OSU/Troy Smith Fan says.
