Albert Mcclellan

Before I get to the main point, let me preface by saying I don't see this move happening nor believe it would "solve" the problem that is this team's pass rush.

As we know, the pass rush has been very poor this season(for several seasons now actually) and even non-existent at times. We can say Mattison should blitz more or create more "exotic" blitzes but as we've seen the DBs aren't always good enough to stick with their man if the blitz gets picked up(few NFL DB units are).

So I wondering whether promoting Albert McClellan could provide a spark. McClellan was a UDFA LB the team liked enough to sign to the practice squad. He played DE in college(like a certain undersized DE this team shouldn't have traded) and excelled rushing the QB. I felt he looked pretty good during the training camp practice held at M&T and during pre-season.

Again, is move likely won't happen but it's just something to discuss.

I really want this to happen. He could give us a spark that we need. Also, on our roster, the only OLBs listed are Suggs, JJ, and Burgess, he could add depth if someone got hurt.

He looked pretty good in TC and PS, and I want to see him soon, but I'm sure the coaches have a decent reason to keep him on the practice squad.

Tryin to one up me huh ER_20...I see how it is lol.

Really with Jones release we need to promote him anyways to the position and stop dressing 5 MLBs. God forbide one of our OLBs gets hurt.

Double Edit- Unless McClain is their backup OLB and theyd slide Ellerbe into the starting role.

You know how I do. :P

Exactly. Ray, Ellerbe and Jameel are locks but do B.A., Phillips and Burgess all have to suit up over someone who could possibly help this team in an area they're struggling in?

If we promote him, who gets released?

Phillips, Hamlin or Kooistra

What was the point of the Kooistra signing?

It was supposed to be more Tackle depth because of Gaither. I believe Kooistra is injured though, so that plan's pretty much moot.

Does he play special teams? Because the looks to be the criteria for Harbaugh to give snaps to a rookie.

I remember him getting blown up on a crack-back block against the Redskins in pre-season so I guess he does.

Don't remember seeing too much, so i can't make a judgment on the player, but I do agree that JJ needs to be upgraded.

From the combine tape, McClellan looks like a pretty smooth athlete but has some tightness here and there

I really don't think it is out of the question that this will happen. I think Harbs will at least wait a bit after Stallworth is reactivated and find out who he will cut. We seem to have some luck with UFA's. And maybe a guy coming in with a chip on his shoulder will be a little spark for that line/pass rush.

nobodys going to get cut for Stallworth because while he was injuried he was still taking a roster spot. I dont thin its the answer tho.

I know we will play around with new packages to address the pass rushing issue, McClellan "might" be a possibility, but honestly he wasnt all that great in the preseason. I asked Jason La Canfora what he thought of the situation and he brought up a good point... Mattison did make some great adjustments after the bye week last year with addressing the secondary and schemes... i expect him to do the same for pass rush after this bye week. Heres our conversations.

Hey Jason, love all your work and thanks for taking time out to do this, we all appreciate it. Love that your a Bmore boy too!!! So am I. Do you see the Ravens addressing their pass rushing issues? I know Merriman is a long shot passing through waivers to us, but what about a possible promotion from PS for a player like McClellan?

Jason La Canfora, NFL Network
I don't think it gets solved through personnel this late in the game. Mattison made some great adjustments out of the bye last season; he needs to do it again this season. Get way more creative with Suggs, whip Cody into shape, and with Reed back, get Landry more involved in the blitz schemes

You're right. I forgot they never put him on the PUP list. Only forgot because it didn't make sense then, and it still doesn't make sense lol. Maybe it was just so he could still practice with Joe if he was healthy enough before our week 7 practices.
