How to Add Avatars and Personal Photos

4 posts in this topic

First off, let me tell you that the "upload" option is finicky and unlikely to work.

Instead, find an image hosting service. I use Photobucket. It's free, and it's reliable. A couple of others are Image Shack and Village Photos, both of which are also free. Personally, I think Photobucket is the best, but that's just me.

Once you've uploaded your photos to the image hosting service, come back here and click on "My Controls." From there, look down the menu to the left of your screen until you find "Edit Avatar Settings." Once there, enter the entire URL address for your photo, including the http://.

You will find your image's URL in a box directly beneath the image you upload to your image hosting service. For example, the URL for my avatar is: http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a372/Mad...00/image84b.jpg.

Make sure your avatar is no larger than 100x100, or the system will not accept it. If you can't resize it yourself, don't worry: Photobucket provides handy-dandy tools that will do it for you. If you're nice, I might even help you out myself.

To add a personal photo, follow the same drill. This time, click on the "Change Personal Photo" link in the menu to the left of your screen. Your picture must be no larger than 150x150.

I hope this helps those of you who have been having problems.

Thanks DRayRaven, your "tutorial" is really awesome, I was actually wondering how you could put all your pix for free !

I tried all the sites that you are refering to, and I look for some others, I came to the conclusion that what works the best for me is the photo sharing site Joomeo (http://www.joomeo.com), in fact my Facebook or photobucket are not private enough to share my pix, so I needed a site that is free and safe !!!

See you
