Bills Vs Ravens Officials

13 posts in this topic

I was extremely upset at the officials in that game. Although they didnt exactly ruin the game and in the end got the right calls because of challenges and booth reviews, it was still bothersome.

For example when the official called Mason out of bounds on the sideline catch when he was 15 YARDS DOWN FIELD AND OVER RULED THE OFFICIAL 4-5 YARDS AWAY!

Also on the 4th and 1, the Bills go for it. Fitzpatrick scrambles dives and puts the ball close to the first down marker and they ruled him behind the line of scrimmage.

Although I cant remember what play it was, I saw an official on THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FIELD overrule the spot of the near sideline ref.

I bring this up because these could have cost a team a game and in combination with the Steelers Dolphins game situation.

You guys see any of these?

Even though the game was mostly called in our favor, it was a horrible performance by the officials. But as many have pointed out, at least it wasn't as bad as the Steelers-Dolphins game...

As long as the correct calls are made in the end, I'm proud of the officials. And even when they don't, it's up to the coaches to challenge when the time is right. Lovie Smith and Brad Childress didn't lol.

Remember when Cundiff had to make a field goal at the 30 instead of the 25?

And there was one play where we got a horrible spot which caused us to have to punt the ball. 2nd game in a row!

Buffalo: 6 penalties 79 yards

Baltimore: 4 penalties 18 yards

Also..that offensive PI that was not called on Boldin while he grabbed the CB who intercepted the ball?
And the questionable forward progress call when Ray Lewis stripped the ball and ended the game?

Sorry, don't buy this "refs have a bias against us" when the Ravens lead the league in opposing teams having the most penalties and penalty yardage.

To be fair, almost every single penalty called against our opposing teams so far this year has been correct. And Shawn Nelson should seriously know better, when you're taking on an entire flock of Ravens defenders including Ray Lewis, you should just go down and live to see another day. But HE kept fighting and we made him pay. I'm not gonna argue with the no forward progress call.

Not all fans have that belief.

The biggest reason Ravens' opponents have so much penalty yardage is because of all the PI calls. I think Houshmandzadeh has drawn at least 5 and Mason and Q have drawn at least 5 between them.

Penalties are subjective and I'm not going to say they're 100% correct. This season no "questionable" calls have cost the Ravens any games so I see no reason to complain about officiating. I didn't have a problem with the forward progress call, but I can understand if some viewers did.

I wasn't trying to single anyone out but a good portion of Ravens fans need to break out of the mentality "the refs hate us". The problem last year was discipline and the coaching staff worked on it in training camp and it's shown the effects this season.

True. The CBs not pulling and tugging at WRs every chance they get(Mr.Walker) has helped too.

Here is the problem I see with that theory though.
1. the team my not be able to figure out if they should challenge in time, so the right call may not be made every time
2. that is EASY technical stuff to fix, I umpire baseball (but I know friends who do football as well) and it just seems like calling a guy out of bounds when you're not the closest man is like me calling a guy out at 1st when I'm the 3rd base umpire

Thanks for actually reading what I wrote! when did I say that we got robbed out of calls, I just said the official were bad. I'm not trying to say the refs are screwing over the Ravens. I'm trying to say the refs seem AWFUL at least 2 games that I actually watched this week
Edit: also a call in the back of the endzone in the Min vs GB game which he ruled a TD when he wasnt even looking to see if the receiver had his feet in. I mean its just simple things like that which can lose teams games

That was egregious since it was on a replay any way. All the booth reviews at the end of the first half were telling too. I agree the officials were horrible.
Not implying they were anti-Raven just horrible.
