Aaron Smith Potentially Done For Steelers

14 posts in this topic

According to PFT Aaron Smith may be done to for the year with a right triceps tear. We all know what he means to their defense, particularly with their rush D. Without Smith (and Polamalu)last year Rice went over 140 against them in Pittsburgh. I believe Brett Kiesel has had a hamstring issue for the past 3 weeks as well? (correct me if im wrong).

Ya the Steelers D is banged up biggg time. It definitely is showing missing our two big horses on the side. The D wasn't able to get much pressure at all the past few games, it's been pretty unSteeler like.

Theres proof Ravens fan, you need an inside pocket push because even if you have two All Pro rush OLBs, you can still struggle to get pressure...obviously not as bad as ours though.

It is what it is, the play was called right after the review and the refs had it right according to the rulebook.

But it definitely is something that should be fixed because you can't judge who recovered a fumble when most of the players thought the play was dead after the td was scored and aren't scrambling to recover the ball.

It wasn't like this was a tip toe catch out of bounds where it was clear cut.

But most Steeler fans would agree that this definitely was in our favor but it was according to the rules even though it does seem strange. But I guarantee the rule changes eventually.

And Im pretty sure the Ravens have got some beneficial calls this year too. A win is a win though in this tough new NFL.

Yea, because boneheads think that any call that goes our way was a bad call. Actually, That call was exactly right.

He is huge for their interior run game. Losing Polamalu last year was really bad for their defense in the secondary and run game, but Smith was one of those underrated guys who really held up the LOS when it came to opposing runners.

Let me give you my take of that play. Obviously, BR fumbled prior to the goal line and the ref blew the whistle (for a TD) making it technically a dead ball. It being a dead ball it didn't matter that the Dolphins recovered, which they obviously did, although as the whistle was blown it is likely that everyone wasn't doing the mad scramble they may have had everyone thought it was still a live ball. So when the zebras realize their F-up they go to the old hood to "review". Once there, they have to consider how that premature TD call really screwed the pooch. Beings as the refs have that credo of never admitting they screwed up, they just followed the letter of the rules. Fumble, whistle blow = dead ball so no possible recovery. The ball remains in the original teams hands. Either way they called it they were going to hose someone. Then they came out with that BS about not being able to tell who actually recovered, just to cover their own ******.

The call after the fact was correct. However, the referee who called it a TD should never have signaled such as he had no view of the ball and could not possibly know whether or not it crossed the plane. Plus, the referee positioned in the end zone clearly saw the fumble and he was the one who blew the play dead. Bad call on the field. Correct call once it hit the booth as they then had no choice.

It's not the refs fault that Miami committed a personal foul on two plays before the Ben play where when one of their players threw Heath Miller out of bounds which advanced the ball from the 10 down to the 5 yard line. So that's another thing the Fins fans can look at as well instead of blaming the refs. How about not letting Emmanual Sanders to run the kickoff back to midfield on that same drive, or stopping Mewelde Moore on 3rd and 5 and not letting him pick up 20 plus yards on a little dump off check down pass?? Or how about actually driving down the field on the last drive when you had over 2 minutes left and try to get in FG range to win the game?? Miami's playcalling when they got the ball back and went 4 and out was absolutely horrific and gave them no chance to win at all when all they needed was to get in FG range to win the game. The bottom line is Miami failed and failed miserably on each of those plays and that's why they lost not the play in the end zone with Ben. Of course the Miami players and fans and a lot of the Ravens fans will totally overlook all this because it had nothing to do with why they lost it was ALLLL the Ben play in the end zone and nothing that occured before or after that play happened...

Terrible news for Pitt. Great news for us.

Smith is not going to be put on IR and there is a chance he could return by the end of December and for the playoffs. His tricep was not completely torn so it's an 8-9 week recovery time is what the Steelers were told. Getting a guy like Aaron Smith back for the playoffs if it indeed does happen would be a huge huge lift for a Steelers defense that is already pretty damn good...
