Who Is To Blame, Ed Reed Or The Corners?

45 posts in this topic

I know the corners got beat but isnt Ed Reed supposed to be the last line of defense. I saw Ed on three touchdowns, late to the ball as with the corners fabian twice and Webb.

First of sorry for posting this cause im the biggest Ed Reed fan and i know he made 2 ints and a fumble but im just trying to find out if maybe he was little rusty.

He stated in the post game press conference that he felt 2 steps slower than normal. He was late on Webb's TD that he gave up on a play he normally gets to, but Washingtons TDs were all on him.

I thought it was Landry who was 2 slow on that play. When they showed the replay it was the Strong Safety side that was too slow to make up the speed when the WR got behind Webb.

It was Ed, trust me. I honestly don't know what the CBS guys were watching but Ed was late getting over the top.

Reed might have had 2 INT's but he isn't near game-shape yet.
Yea you could see after plays he would be dinged up with various issues. But this was good step into getting him into game shape. I'm glad we ended the game without Reed getting injured due to him not being in game shape.

Who cares, this was Reeds first full game since last season in Indy. On top of having his entire hip reconstructed, good god people get off Eds back!! Defense had a bad day it happens, thank god the offense picked them up and got us the win!

Reed has more interceptions in one game than any single player on our roster does this season. He also forced a fumble. How about getting off his back folks.

edit: If not for Reed having 2INT we may have lost to the Buffalo Bills today

Ok, we gotta hope Ed is in game shape for the next game. Cant have that happening again.

If you are looking for who to blame don't look any further than your user name.

Suggs is not getting pressure on the quarterback. But at the same time I will say the corners play too far off of receivers. Maybe Mattison is just to blame? But I just cant blame a guy who had 2 interceptions and caused a fumble.

He probably won't be I doubt he'll be as rusty two weeks from now.

To be fair, on both of those deep ball, the CBs didn't use good technique and allowed the WRs to get behind him. It's truly phenomenal how few CBs around the league actually know how to backpedal and turn and then turn at the right time as opposed to shuffling and bailing when the WR starts to run by them.

I saw him get pressure on Fitzpatrick today and flush him out of the pocket at least twice too.

Fact is, if he isn't getting pressure, no one else does consistently. That's why this team's pass rush is so anemic; there simply aren't enough player who can win one-on-one match-ups consistently.

Yeah, maybe trying to Jam a receiver at the LoS would help once in a while too. SIck of watching our corners play ten yards off the ball.

Suggs was the only person getting into the backfield. Everyone else was worthless. Nobody got pressure.

He had no gas left in the second half. As I said in another thread, Antwaan Barnes had 2 sacks against Brady today. Wish we kept him.......

Wrong. Suggs had a chance at at least 5 sacks today but Fitzpatrick always had a wide open receiver and just missed getting sacked

We dont have Jam CBs. They have to play off the WR so they dont get beat but the result is they get beat on slants over and over.

Webb is a jam corner. Fabian is fast enough to be a jam corner but just doesn't have the frame....or the cleats for it.

Guess it's Mattison then. I'm just frustrated with Suggs. I didn't like his comments after the game, he sounded very "it is what it is" and a chance of at least 5 sacks and 0 sacks is 2 different things.

Ray landed a nice blow on Fitzpatrick though.

I'll give it to the guy, Ryan Fitzpatrick played a great game. We just aren't the same Organized Chaos as we used to be.

Maybe it's just me, but I am appalled that anyone on this board would question Ed Reed's play today - and - to anyone that did, including the original poster you should be ashamed to call yourself a ravens fan.

This isn't even a question. Fabian Washington is our worst CB in my opinion. He had that one good game this season, but other than that, he gets burned on a regular basis.

Fabian was gettin schooled. We need physical corners that can jam wide outs at the line and I mean actually physically jamming receivers at the line. Whenever they played up on the receivers they got beat deep but the didnt actually touch the receivers. When they played off they got beat underneath all day. Bills made the DBs uncomfortable. Cant blame Reed, 2 picks and a forced fumble...i mean seriously. It not like Zibby or Landry have been stoppin the deep ball so how can I blame Reed in his first game back.

Say what you want, Ed was late helping the corners and acknowledging that doesn't make you less of a fan.

There is no telling whos to blame but Reeds first game back we give up 500 yards, without him we didnt event come close to giving up that many yards

Give Ed Reed a break dude, he is just getting back from a hip surgery. That play when Web was covering is Ed wasn't up to the speed. Howver, Washington is the guy got pawned badly by Evans today. He needs to get his head together or he'll be replaced by Wilson.
