Thanks Again Refs

46 posts in this topic

In years past it has been a widely discussed belief that the refs had it in for our boys in purple. Now it appears that our opponents are the most penalized collective team in the NFL. We now get all the calls.

Did the refs deliver this game to us with a bowtie wrapped around it. A gift from the refs, Ya think? Are we now like New England, the Yankees, or the Lakers?

Puleeease say it aint so!

Referees are more inclined to call penalties in favor of teams that have cleaner images; that's just human nature. They'll do their jobs as objectively as possible, but when it comes to the close calls, they'll err on the side of the team that appears to be more disciplined. This is precisely why John Harbaugh has changed the image and culture of the team.

That said, gift-wrapped win or not, the Bills didn't finish the job like they should've and the Ravens capitalized. That's why the Ravens won, not the referees.

Well the refs kinda screw us when the spot the ball. But I think a lot of the penalties against us has to do with our receivers getting PI'd, in most cases where they would've clearly caught the ball. PI's are what happens when you have such great route-runners.

Refs were fair for the whole game and all the reviews were called correctly for both sides. The strip by Ray was prior to his forward progress stopping as the pile was still moving forward. Kudos to the refs for not blowing the whistle too soon. That was an amazingly clutch play by the greatest MLB of all time.

If not for the pile continuing to move forward at the pace that it did, the whistle would've been blown. I, too, credit the officials for not getting whistle-happy on that one.

I'm cool with the Ravens getting flags as long as they don't have to change their uniforms to the same color.

I didn't see any instance in which the referees made it easy for the Ravens
The unsportsmanlike penalty on top of the late strip allowance didnt at least pique any suspiscion? Ray also didn't get called for slamming the QB to the ground.

I'm not complaining, but the Ravens opponents are getting a lot.... and I mean a LOT of laundry thrown at their feet and somehow, we seem to be squeaky clean. Hmmmm.

Both of those were totally fine.

The unsportsmanlike penalty was by the book. If you take your helmet off in the field of play and slam it, it's a penalty. It's been called on us, before. I didn't see it originally but, when replayed, it was obvious.

Ray Lewis didn't have any late or illegal hits. They were all clean.

You want to see the Ref's gift wrapping a win? Look no further then today's Steelers game. I think the right call was made in our game today.

I could be wrong, but on almost every play of an NFL game, I see instances that could be legitimately be called fouls. Either holding (Pittsburgh especially), false starts (Oher - Sorry Mike), ruffing the passer, pass interference, etc. Most years in the past, the ravens were consistently flagged more than the other team. This year, we seem to be getting the breaks. I'm ok with it, but will it last?

As long as the team maintains the appearance of a disciplined football team with a relatively clean image, it'll probably last. Just look at the breaks that the Steelers and Colts have gotten for years. Even the Patriots, prior to Spygate, got the benefit of the doubt for a few years during their dynasty run and beyond.

I assume we are discussing Ray's fumble recovery in OT? Technically, I could have saw a ref ruling Nelson stopping in forward progress, but the pile was still moving HIM forward when Ray ripped it out, plus the whistle wasn't blown at the time. It was a great play by Ray that bailed us out BIG TIME and I will leave it at that, becaus the Bills certainly would have gotten into field goal range eventually with Mattison's vanilla play calls.

The unsportsmanlike conduct penalty was justified, the center threw his helmet on the ground, no helmet on field by one's own means = penalty, easy enough.

Watch the steelers game.
Don't tell me you think Oher was false-starting. His get-off has been just as quick(so has Yanda's at times) since that game and I think he's been called for a false start twice all year.

I have to agree with this. It was clear that the pile was still moving forward. Head's up play by Ray.

Of Course granted I didn't see what happened as I was at the Ravens game today and saw the highlights but yes you have it right, that is gift wrapping a win like no other. That ball was clearly out and should have been Miami's ball. So to stay on topic with this thread, I don't think the Ravens are getting any favors from the refs but I do wanna thank the refs in Miami for giving the Steelers the win.

Really, Is that how an alleged rapist just beat the Dolphins on a BS play?

The refs gave us this game. I was so disgusted in our team. Whether it's our players or coaching staff, something needs to change. It was embarassing for our 2000 Super Bowl Champions to watch. I also think it's hiliarious that outside of the 3 best players on defense (Reed, Lewis, Ngata) everyone else thinks they are god's gift and walk around with swagger. What swagger could you possibly have after getting demolished by the Bills offense at home on a day we should be honoring our first ever superbowl team.

No, they didn't. The Bills TE was met by Ray, pushed back and then his o-line started moving him forward.

That call was iffy. But I was talking about the picked off pass. The guy had full control. And by all means, the ref got the play right by the book. But he technically didn't have control of the ball in the field of play because he was sitting on Q.

I'll always take a win but I am seriously concerned with our team. Great darn time to have a bye week.

He only got one foot down, no other part of his body hit. Boldin became a defender on that play and pushed him out-of-bounds. You're right, it's a textbook rule and a great call - so how did a referee "give us the game" by calling it correctly?
