I bought my best friend the box set of the entire series up until this season, including the Christmas special, but I have yet to actually watch the show myself.

Since there's been almost universal praise for this show, I should probably see what the big deal is for myself. Funny enough, for a skit we had to do for Homecoming Week, we took the Dayman song and changed the words to it. I did the high-pitched "aa-ahhh-aaaaa" lol

Never watched it and don't plan to start now.

Then why even comment? I like your attitude towards it...ha

His response is perfect for some of the cynical humor I've been told is on the show, though. ;)

Yeah I agree. I think anyone will like the show if they give it a chance and are a fan of comedy.

I never saw the show, so I just watched the latest episode. I don't really think it's funny. Since I assume you guys won't agree with me, I've taken the liberty of highlighting everything I think is supposed to be funny from the episode along with the major plot updates. The suspected funny things are in bold:

Hawkprey's outline of You’re Never Partly Cloudy Over There, In Philadelphia:

Opening scene:
Buying a boat.
The words “[you know] towel”.
Reference to P Diddy or Forrest Gump.

Aboard Cheap Boat:
Man insinuates his inability to focus.
Arguing amongst themselves (another punch line?)

…Intro complete….

Scene 1:
Minor obsession over shrimp (recurring theme perhaps?)

Scene 2: Inside the boat
Now dancing…. Dancing in progress….
Turns out she’s a bad dancer. (Ba dum ching!)
Comparison to “inflatable storefront man” due to waving of arms.

Scene 3: Outside
More shrimp talk.
Considering eating barnacles, shot down immediately by saying “don’t eat those”
Poor throw
The phrase “Bob around like a cauliflower”

Scene 4: In the store
Wants mattress.
“Implication” (a word I used previously and correctly) is now discussed
Blubbering about consent.
Pan to some lady apparently listening in to a talk about other women.

Scene 5: Back outside
Finds things other than keys, wants to continue diving
Bad throw again (this time a flashlight)

Scene 6: Inside with Devito
Gutting the insides.
Devito hammers things, struggles

Scene 7: Outside once more (dock)
More talking about consent.
Walks inside to find broken things

Scene 8: Climax?
Uncovers items from water which he thinks is part of the same story.
Apparent that woman ahs been throwing these very same items out the window.
“Patronizing” is the tension breaker.

Scene 9: Outside shop
“You said a bunch of words, right?” the punch line.
Man confuses identities of two different people.

Scene 10: Boat
They indeed bring a inflatable storefront onboard.
Men intend to party while others do the work.
Found the keys. Suggests patenting something that is in his hand.

Scene 11: Boats at Night
Walks in on boaters who appear more disheveled than expected.
Calls them barnacle-covered and sunburned (moreso than friends who were scraping barnacles in the sun).
Points out a person’s missing hand.
His “story” is disappointing.
Points out that he can’t drink because of diabetes. (Awkward?)
Man scares them, suggests “sweets”.
They believe they will be raped.
But strippers walk in!

Scene 12: In the Harbor
Woman dancing with the waving inflatable man.
Eating and enjoying themselves.
Lights a fire in the cabin.

Scene 13: Closer
Brings back women.
Sees boat is on fire.
Boat sinks.

I don't really have a sense of humor, so if one of you can point out the witty, cynical humor for me, I'd be very appreciative.

That certainly was a giant waste of time. That was the worst summary of a show that the.. summarizer obviously does not understand or "get". Not everyone can appreciate Always Sunny's humor, but those who do understand it's comedic gold.

Spent 20 minutes watching the episode, spent 5 minutes writing that up. You tell me the waste of time.

Don't bother with the "you get it or you don't" stuff because that's not how things work.

Obviously the five minutes spent writing that. It amuses me that you judge an entire series based on one episode.
I never said the show sucks, I said I didn't find the episode funny. And I supported it better than anyone who disagrees seems to be able to. Why? Because people are going to tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. But maybe that will never happen. Any good episodes then?

That is EXACTLY how it works, dude. Not everyone's humor is the same, obviously. So it's a huge case of either you get it or you don't.

Disagree. Laughter is a universal response. Some things are either funny or not funny. Jokes don't go over for 3 reasons, either you're too stupid to get it, you have something against laughing at the joke (e.g., you're offended), or the joke is lame (not funny enough). I'd like to think I'm not too stupid.

All I did was say I didn't laugh and then ask what people thought was funny about it by breaking it down. I'm not trying to insult, I'm trying to inquire.

It's not that black and white. Things are not either funny or not in a generalized response. That's why there's so many different comedians. Not everyone finds all of them funny. Look at Dane Cook, some people find him hilarious, while others do not. Does that mean he's not funny? The same goes with comedies. Find the worst comedy, and I guarantee you there's at least one person who thinks it's hilarious.

The problem with your summary is you're taking the show, breaking it down into generalized observations. What I mean by that is there's only one name really mentioned, Devito. Everything else is guy, or woman, or some other pronoun. Secondly, the delivery and visuals are also a big part of the humor, which a summary would be lacking. I didn't catch that entire episode about Charlie and Frank buying a boat, so I can't comment on that entire summary.

Laughter is not necessarily a universal response; humor is subjective and relative to each person's tastes. Your taste just doesn't necessarily match up to the degree of other people's taste. That's all it really is. Nothing to do with not getting the joke or the joke being unfunny.

IMO, people's response is dictated by how "sohpisticated" their level of humor is. Think back to kids shows. They're not funny to adults. At the same time, when was the last time a kid said "I don't get Sesame Street"? Children all laugh at the same things because they all exhibit the same sense of humor. It's not until later in life that we develop stigmas or "taste".

What changes as we become adults? To me, it's not our senses of humor that change, they just sophisticate at different speeds. And some people develop opinions that keep them from laughing at certain things. I was trying to be open about this show, and I'm pretty sure I'm not the most sophisticated humorist out there. Yet I didn't laugh. Nor crack a smile. So my only guess is the episode at least isn't funny.

I'll tell you what isn't funny. This. I think I've ruined this thread for you guys. Oh well.
