Jared Gaither Placed On IR

35 posts in this topic

Too bad he wasn't able to be healthy this year, I was looking forward to the dominant bookends. He'll be some other team's headache next year.

Schefter states that the Ravens "plan to" place Gaither on IR, not that they have.
Jason La Canfora also said the "Ravens informed Gaither he would be placed on IR".
.... i cant get the link cause his page isnt working for me on the computer, only my cell phone.

Well I am honestly relieved. Obviously I much rather have a healthy Gaither ready to play, but moving on should be easy and our line can settle to where they are at now.

Not really, for one nobody will want him since he is injured and second I have a feeling we'll have the rules this off-season as we did last off-season meaning he'll be tendered so I would say he will be here at least another year. Hopefully this allows Gaither to heal up and get ready for next season. The best we can hope for is... Gaither gets whatever surgery is required to get him back to good strength, let him go through the conditioning stuff in the off-season and workouts to see how far along he is on his recovery, and from there just to be cautious place him on PUP so we can be sure that he somewhere near 100% by the middle of next season.

Next: Call Willie Anderson and bring him in for Depth or some RT where we can kick Yanda back inside to Guard.

The offensive line has played well without him, but the team will likely still need to address its depth later in the season. You can never underestimate the importance of depth on the O-line.

Normally, I'd be against bringing in an old veteran, but Anderson wasn't bad at all in 2008 and would probably still have 6-8 games left in him if needed. For depth, not a bad move, especially since he's been staying in shape and wouldn't be looking for money. He said on Twitter in the past that he wouldn't mind going back to the Ravens if they needed a favor from him. It would probably help that the team also looks to remain a serious championship contender as the season wears on.

Yes I feel the same way, normally I would also be against this but like you said at best I say he would be depth, and he played extremely well in 2008 and considering he has been off for 2 years and has kept in shape, I say a 2 year deal where he starts for us wouldn't be bad. I think this would be a move that would pay off well, especially if we can bring him in after Buffalo and he starts and makes our offensive line even better.

Bad news for Yanda. Hes done a solid job at RT, but the guy is a beast at guard.
Exactly the reason why I want the Ravens to sign Willie for a 2 year deal and play him at RT, he can play the remainder of this season, and like I said put Gaither on PUP for next season and keep Willie playing at RT thus allowing Yanda to go back to where he is best, at Guard. I know Yanda is on a tender and he isn't a big pro bowl guard, I could see Yanda agreeing to a 2-3 year extension that would be reasonable salary wise to keep him on the team. To be honest... I would love our offensive line if it looked like this, Flacco would have all day to throw and Rice would have a shot at 2,000 yard rushing:

Oher.... Grubbs... Birk... Yanda... Anderson

Too bad the trade deadline has passed. I'm sure we could have gotten someone decent. But who knows they could have given up someone we really needed.

I loved Willie for his effort and professionalism that he brought in 2008, but he needed help with a back or a TE for that entire season. We're leaving Yanda on his own alot this season and its brought Heaps revival over the middle for us. We cant afford to leave guys in to help a RT.

Im glad they made a roster move, now I wonder if its for Ed Reed or Brendon Ayanbadjeo ? ALthough im sad to see Gather go on IR. It seems clear that his injury just wasnt healing up for this season. I wonder if the ravens will make another move by 4pm .. then we may have both guys back :)

Well at least this will put an end to the ever long discussion about will Gaither be back or not. Our O-Line has played okay without him, but we would've probably been a lot better at protecting Joe if he was playing. Gaither's talents seem to fit the LT position while Oher's the right. I miss that combo.

We might have seen the last of Gaither actually play last year. It'll be interesting in the offseason.

Good riddance. It's a "what have you done for me lately" league and he has done nothing but show up out of shape and claim he has an injury, then ask for a big contract. We have enough depth to make up for his absence

It's too bad that we couldn't get Gaither back healthy, but Yanda has played extremely well. I think that he may even match up better with some of the pass rushers in our division. Since Gaither is so tall he struggled sometimes against shorter pass rushers because they could get up under his pads and beat him around the edge. With Yanda being around 6'3" he is better able to handle the lean on those guys.

Well, the move to pick up Oher is looking smarter by the day. I wish we had more depth behind Oher, but we've got Reed back and I'm glad we didn't have to cut anyone.

I'm confident in the line that we have in place already. If you look at individual performance, Oher has been pretty shaky so far and Chris Chester straight up isn't a very good lineman to begin with. But as a unit, we've so far kept Flacco on his feet and given him enough time to make good throws, even if it means taking a hit at the end of the play. I gained a lot of confidence in the unit particularly after the Steelers game. But my one question is, can we keep this good play up against playoff defenses? Consistency is still a question mark.

I think Oher has been great and pretty dependable at LT. His only problem is penalties. You gotta think, this is only his 2nd year and he's going up against the league's best pass rushers. He could have used another half season or so at RT first, but he has only improved and will continue to do so

Well, look at it this way....since it looks like we've seen the last of gaither as a raven, it guarantees that not only can we afford to pay Ngata, we may be able to keep fabe and TJ as well.

Too bad we didn't lower or asking price in a trade this offseason. We almost certainly could have gotten a 3rd or 4th rounder since the speculation was we wanted a 1st rounder.

To be honest, I'm glad the saga has come to an end. Although I would have preferred he be on the field playing, it is what it is. At the very least, we should be thankful for his play when he was on the field. Those were some pretty big shoes he had to step into after JO left and I feel he performed well in filling them. What ever his future may hold, I wish him luck.

As I have said before, we need to make arrangements to get Big Willie back, if he is still interested and since we retain his rights. I agree with what others have said. He did play well for us in 2008, prior to his retirement, and would bring a veteran presence to the right side while allowing Yanda to move back to guard. We need the depth, simply put. If Yanda were to go down, we are left with Cousins and Moll to step in at this point. Even the coaches don't have confidence in their abilities to start, or they would have placed them there already.

C'mon Ozzie, make a move and get Willie back!

I agree...except on the issue of depth.

I was a very vocal Gaither supporter for a long time. Not anymore.

Id rather see Ogden back at RT than Willie.

Only problem with that is JO was our LT.

Does anybody think we will see Gaither in a Ravens' uniform ever again? I don't thinks so, the whole injury scenario seemed fishy to me. Moreover, there is a chance there may not be a 2011 season which adds to the goodbye of Gaither. (I'd like someone who is more well-read on the whole contract-thing for the 2011 season to lay that out.)

We are going with the sure thing since Gaither is probably history as a Raven and drafting a RT quite early in next year's draft. However, I have no clue to Ozzie's draft plans since he does it his way for the Ravens, and as a recent times he has had a shaky rounds one and two in drafting. (Flacco has been the gem.)

flacco, rice and oher in the past 3 drafts were homeruns. Franchise LT, Franchise QB, Franchise HB. In 2 drafts. Kruger and Kindle coincidentally guys we needed to boost the only thing lagging on our defense, the pass rush, are question marks. Kruger was not drafted with the intention of being an OLB, so this is really his first year at his professional position.
