Article: Ravens Gave Up 2nd Most Qb Hits Last Season

13 posts in this topic

It focuses on the Patriots (go figure), but has some relevant information on the Ravens in the "Most Quarterback Hits" chart near the bottom:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3313539

A QB hit is when a defender sacks a QB or knocks him down after he releases a pass.

This article says the Ravens gave up 57 hits, second only to Arizona. This probably contributed to the revolving door at QB, but let's not forget that the line had many injury issues of its own.

I think this will be improved next season thanks to more experience and chemistry and (hopefully) fewer injuries; therefore, the entire offense will be better off. Thoughts?

imagine that lol....could that mean that the most likely cause and/or reason for our overall poor offensive production and scoring ability......was based on the Offensive Line inability to block?i would seem to think so if this is indeed the case here......i think that if anyone watched Film of us last season....one thing that would stand out would just have to be that of when the ball was snapped...our line almost immediately collapsed and thus resulted in fumbles, and turnovers along with other un-fortunate mis-haps.

I'm surprised at how often Brady was sacked. If I remember correctly, didnt he have a multi-game streak where he wasn't sacked that the Ravens brought to an end? Also, I think the Brady stats are a little misleading because I think the charts include the playoffs, where he played against substantially better teams and was thus sacked more.

Also, I don't think its fair to completely judge the Ravens by these stats at face value because McNair totally skewed the stats. I'd like to see the number of snaps vs sacks each QB had.

A agree Raven 07.

I was under the impression that the Ravens gave up the most hits just from watching all the games. I was surprised that there was another team other there that was worse with protection, i thought arizona was improving the OL.

Just watch the tape, the immediate second the ball was snapped, the OLman were falling back on their @sses. The absolute worst was Mike Flynn and Marshall Yanda. Those guys werent even trying, people just walked right past them every snap. Of Brady or Manning played behind that OL they would've had terrible seasons, and i seriously doubt if they have anywhere near the toughness Steve McNair has, who played with a ton of injuries - he received a new injury every game thanks to Yanda or Flynn but refused to give up.

as being Raven Fans here, i will point out that despite the rookies mistakes thorughout the whole ordeal of the 2007 NFL season that, the rookies did show great promise at certain points through the season last year, and thats what they will have to build off of, meanwhile looking or watching game film of their past mistakes and continuing to further their overall development and knowledge of the game, so that the next time...when game day and game time rolls around....the mistakes wont be there, or will be minisqule. which will ultimately lead to them becoming bigger and better overall Raven athletes/players.

This is just a reminder of how far the team fell from 2006 to 2007.

I remember when the offensive line gave up the 2nd-fewest sacks in the league during the regular season (17, I believe), behind only the Indianapolis Colts.

But, again, that's what happens when injuries strike...

I think old age also had something to do with it. Flynn and Ogden were shadows of their former selves last season. A youth movement, some chemistry, and a better training staff should help with that problem.

Or when you let proven veterans go in free agency. Losing Pasho and Mulitalo hurt us more then most people realize because not only did we lose depth but we lost experience. Both would have been crucial and helped out bunch last season.

but as most people dont fully come to realize here is that.....when you lose a key part or key player in something, that only makes the other corresponding parts of it all, work harder, work faster, work more efficiently, AND it allows younger, more athletic type guys come in, learn, build from their experiences and go from there.

thats why its important that we keep the whole line together for awhile so they can build some serious chemistry. I'm glad Harbs realizes the importance of building in the trenches, pretty soon we'll have one of those cool offensive lines were we'll be able to just plug in just about any RB/QB and get some mad production out of them. All I want for x-mas is a bulldozing O-line and a take-no-prisoners D-line :D

not just for a while lol.....for as long as the player is a Raven...at least one would think so, i mean because having that added Edge upfront and in the trenches battling it out with the defenders, really takes poise, teamwork and alot of communication...in which the players must take advantage of every single opportunity that is presented...every little bit of detail...its the littlest things that can and will have the biggest impact on the outcome and the overall performance. which (in a matter of speaking) is why, there needs to be that Comfort level established for as along as physically and mentally possible...not just "for a while"......if a team and its players up front can do that kind of thing and keep it together year after year, then i see absolutely no reason, i mean none...to why our Offensive line shouldnt be that amoung the Elite.
