What They Are Saying About The Ravens

17 posts in this topic

thought this was an interesting read about what numerous or a few sports analysts and other, are saying about our beloved Baltimore Ravens.

".....Banks says he expects the Ravens to bounce back in '08:

My instincts tell me Harbaugh is going to be a good bet in Baltimore, and if he can get some decent quarterbacking, he'll have the Ravens back in position to at least contend for the playoffs this season. The mirage that 2006's 13-3 record turned out to be may not be realistic for some time yet, but Baltimore, in the Harbaugh era, won't be confined to NFL irrelevance either......"

-excerpt from the Baltimore Sun.

Mason and Clayton were rated the 41st and 49th best receivers, which means at least 1/4 of the teams number two receiver is better than Mason. Sounds about right.....

like i said before....this team certainly has the potential to go above and beyond....it's just up to the players and coaches on the team to execute everything properly/correctly and win those ball games.

This is one of the replies by a mr. jim quinn on the 27th to the article:

Ravens have almost no cap room remaining. We probably aren't bringing anyone on board that's any good. We will blow in 08 worse than in 07. Hopefully we will have more cap room in 09. I would like to see a O lineman drafted or some older veterans given a last shot. I think we should look at Collins from Washington or Volek as a QB option for now. Collins did well with the same caliber of receiving corp but I think he had a better line.

Wow, first of all, wonderful negativity. Nice to know that some of the "fans" are being opitmistic about the new season.

And Collins and Volek? Not only would I definitely not want to see Todd Collins seeing as he is almost 40, but both of those qbs definitely resigned with their teams from last year over a month ago. What a moron...

some people in this world just never seem to get it or anything through their own heads some times or even.....most of the time.

Even I had more optimism than that when I made the thread that hypothetically brought up reasons why the Ravens won't make the playoffs this season.

(HYPOTHETICAL, people...)

Didn't you parents ever teach you don't get your hopes up? =)

I understand as fans we should have high hopes, and have confidence in our team going to playoffs, but some of us are realistic about what can or cannot happen. This last season I had high hopes, and didn't think we would end the season at 5-11. You could have bet me any amount of money and I would have taken the bet that there would be NO WAY the Dolphins would have beaten us, but they did. Don't belittle a fellow fan because they have an opinion on the team that you disagree with. We are all fans here, and we need to stick together.

AMEN.

I think we have the potential (oh sounding like Billick now  ) to be a good team this year but i know many others who don't & it's okay. It does not mean they are any less of a fan then the rest of us.

I think far too many people here rip into others if they don't agree. It is okay to disagree but we should try to be civil. I have read far to many replies here were people get really nasty.

in being fan of any team, whether it be The Ravens and/or any other or even a combination of a few teams you may like or have some kind of interest in.....being realistic about reality and having Realistic hopes and dreams for a particular team, is a key aspect here in which all fans must take into consideration, therefore IF (god willing) IF their team doesnt meet those or YOUR expectations.....then that only leads to more problems and more immense complications, which only make your life and other people's lives..alot more difficult to deal with......dont "set the Bar higher than the team can reach"......make everything reasonable and within reach and IF the team does exceed those expectations...then GREAT, only more reason to celebrate...but if not...well then you were asking for too too much.

Oh heck, what's the use of being a fan if you can't be optimistic? It's a new season, many things have changed, why not expect the best? That doesn't mean you have to put your money where your hopes are, though. ;)

 rofl....all im saying is to Keep a Realistic mindset about you....you can still have those HIGH goals.....everyone just has to remember to have and see BOTH sides of this equation here....the High parts, as well as the Realistic parts....if you can say the Ravens will go 18-0 this season, WHILE maintaining that humble and realistic Mentality of keep your exepectations relatively on the "low" side of things...then by all means go for it.

Nope, my parents taught me to dream big. Especially over something like this. I don't own the team, don't own stock in them, and don't gamble so over than be bummed out by a loss I've got nothing to lose.

Well I guess if you expect the team to go 13-3 again, and win their division and they end up @ 2-14 that is nothing to lose.... But to me that is a lot to lose with a team that I put money into and support. But that's just me.

precisely the whole purpose/reason for "not setting your standards TOO high" comes into full view. that way if they exceed your expectations, then that all the more reason to celebrate, but if they dont, then there wouldnt be all that much of an up-roar or tensions about "HE SHOULD HAVE DONE THIS!" or "why the heck did we put this guy in?!?!?!?!" or "ARGHHHHHHHHH DFGSVB:SDVOSDVBSDVBSD!!!!!!!!" none of that would occur and if it were to occur, it would be on a lesser scale than what ive seen on here from the past.

No one is happy about the way this past season turned out and no one will be happy if it turns out that way next season but thats not an excuse to not believe in them. Part of supporting them is being there through the good and the bad. Just because people are optimistic about next season does not mean that they are delusional or not being realistic. This is still one of the more talented teams in the NFL and with a breath of fresh at the Head Coaching position prehaps things can turn around. I dont think anyone can base anything about this team's future on what happened last season. Last season was just a nightmare waiting to happen filled with incompatent coaching that was magnified by the number of injuries and fluke calls/plays that happened last year. I understand how there can be some doubt but if you dont believe you will never go all the way.

I'm just stating be realistic. If I feel the team can go 9-7 then I will expect that, but not set that bar at 10-6, or 11-5, etc.

exactly what ive been saying lol.........dont set the Bar TOO TOO high for the team to reach, make your goals within reason and with proper cause within the relm of reality here lol because that way, if they do in fact exceed those expectations..then great!...thats all the more reason to be happy about this upcoming season and excited about whats to come for us in the future, but if we dont happen to go above and beyond in our first season under new coaching....then there would be less bickering, less talk about this and that...
