What Should We Work On During The Bye

31 posts in this topic

Yes I know we aren't done with the Bills just yet but as fans, we can look ahead to the bye week.

What do you think we should be working on during the bye?

Here are my thoughts:

1. If the issue with audibles is Joe's confidence or lack thereof, or he feels that it is something Cam wouldn't want him to do, then some clarification is in order. If it truly is a problem with the Cover-2 then let's work on that with Joe.

2. Cam needs to draw up some new plays that utilize all the new talent we have. I'm serious here. If he is just kind of stuck in a rut he should use the bye week to crawl out of it. Harbs should give a push here if needed.

3. Timing/Chemistry. Get Joe and those WRs in sync. Some time in with our new TEs wouldn't hurt either.

4. Reed. Shake any rust off (if there is any). Make sure he is game ready and not just going to re-injure himself.

5. ST, specifically, returns. Try everyone! Find that return man.

6. For our defensive guys, catching. Really. Just keep throwing balls at them so they can manage to hold onto those INTs.

We aren't done with the Bills. Who knows what problems (hopefully none!) will arise with this game? I personally feel it's a pretty big trap game.

I don't have that feeling at all.

Stop wasting practice time on gadget plays (i.e. Ngata endzone passes) and practice more on plays that will pick up first downs (and TDs) with inches to go.

Do to Cam what you did with Mattison last year.

It was a different defense after the by week, so lets hope that happens to the offense this year.

rest, relax and recover.
After that the Phins.

There is always the R&R time and the usual game planning for the next opponent. Usually though, the bye week is also used to work on any existing weaknesses.

If the offense had the same turnaround after the bye that the defense did last season, that would be awesome.

I'd personally like them to start using a 3 back rotation more often. With harder hits it would be best to preserve the health of our RB's which is our main strength for the playoffs. Plus on passing plays without Rice, Flacco may be deterred from taking the check down.

I think the idea that the Bills will surprise us is a trap. Please, our bye week is the tougher opponent.

Agreed. Let's get Ed Reed as close to 100% as possible...

Couldn't agree more. It's a known fact that Joe has problems adjusting to Cover-2 and D coords are gonna adjust accordingly. Joe has too many weapons at his disposal to allow a Cover-2 to shut us down.

I have learned to never underestimate an opponent. Although my prediction is 27-10 Baltimore...

get some balls and go for 4 and 1's

How about calling the right play on 3rd down and inches, use fullback, Rb pound it in, than if it didn't work do it again off to the weak side if middle is tight ,spead out offense than do a qb sneak, Look at the green bay game Roger did a QB sneak he spread out the formation and roger ran right in easy as pie. I want to know why can't we do that !!!!!! or won't do that!!!!!

This...

and finding a way to bring the QB down. We've steadily seen this team's pass rush decline since '06 and now, it's pretty embarrassing.

I think that's simply because we rarely bring more than 4 or 5 defenders to rush the QB. If Mattison was more aggressive with his play calling we would see sack numbers rise. Also, as a defense, we do well for a team with an 'embarrassing' pass rush.

True. I don't have much a problem with the defense overall but opposing QBs are given far too much in the pocket too often.

1) Maintaining the primary focus on discipline; I know the team has done a tremendous job with penalties this year, but the coaches shouldn't let up. The difference in a close game is often a penalty or two that can extend or kill a drive, depending on the side of the ball you're on. We don't want to see the team get complacent just because they have a week off.

2) Goal line plays on offense; no excuse not to be able to punch it in with only a yard to go. Even the outstanding Ravens goal line defense has given up touchdowns with a yard to go.

3) Improving the pass rush; although the defense has played phenomenally, and there's been a couple of good performances from the front seven, the team could do better. Doesn't necessarily mean they need to blitz more, they just need to try different ways of attacking certain gaps or different alignments of different guys.

4) Improving run-blocking; the rushing attack has been anemic for most of the season thus far, and though this hasn't greatly hurt the offense given the emergence of the passing game, it'll be necessary to get good production later in the year.

I want us to spend the bye focusing on two things, and doing it til we get it right.1. Morning drills, every single day:Having Flacco audible out of low percentage plays.2. Afternoon drills, every single day:Work on the OL run blocking. That has the dual benefit of getting reps in for the defense to help toughen up our mediocre run D.

On the bye, the team should work on telling Harbaugh to wear all black for the Ravens/Steelers game December 5th on Sunday Night Football.....

I miss Ed Reed looking like a Ninja.......

On defense, 80%tackling then 20% catching. Offense I think getting everyone more accustomed to 3+ WR sets, and trying to find a spot for Stallworth. Also I think it could be helpful to move some men around on the line, see if we can get something more effective for running. And special teams. We need to fund a punt returner soon. It is gettin close to the halfway mark already.

We need to work on short yardage situation ( 3rd and shorts ). We need to run more 3 wide to utilize the talent we have instead of having them on the sideline ( TJ ).
