Eron Riley In Denver Now

16 posts in this topic

Denver has taken Eron Riley from our practice squad. I know he was on the PS but I feel as though he would have made the team next year with Mason and Housh probably not being here. J. Harp and Riley with Boldin would have been really nice to have. 2 big bodied receivers with one greased lightning wideout in Boldin. I am disappointed that hes gone.

To me this is one of our problems concerning rookies that we like but never use we just hoard them. I find it so hard to believe that when other teams get our wr or Rb or anyone and they finally give them a chance to play and they do really well, i have to think to myself why didn't we use this person. I hope he shines it would serve us right. We could have used this young man, he has been with us i think for 2 yrs and we have never given him a chance not even on KR or PR this to me is not using our rookies good. Other examples are Prince, David Reed, Kruger when healthy, cody.

It's pretty tough to "use" rookies and second-year player when the starters are experienced veterans and good players.

You bring up Miller, Reed, Kruger and Cody. With Prince ,who exactly should the team deactivate to give him a shot? Reed has got playing time on special teams and may soon see some as kick returner. Kruger was far too small to play d-line last year and has been healthy for one game this season. Cody has seen time too but he had surgery not too long ago and conditioning is likely still a problem.

Mark Clayton aside, what young WRs, RBs or players on another position have gone elsewhere and flourished?

With Riley, there's a reason he went undrafted. All he did at Duke was run go routes and on most NFL teams, that won't cut it. You talk about him returning kicks and punts. He never returned punts at Duke and considering his rawness as a receiver, the coaches weren't going to have him return kicks. Plus, what did he do in pre-season to suggest the team should have kept him over Smith, Reed or even Harper?

I agree, I don't think Riley was very good for the NFL.

God bless you.

Now the Eron Riley supporters can lay low with the likes of Troy Smith lovers, Ashton Hall praisers and Bring Back Matt Stover ranters.

Well with your thinking that Riley was no good for the NFL than why did we keep him for 2 years if he was really in your eyes dead weight. I'm not saying he great or anything but we had alot of WR on practice squad last yr that never go much of a chance and since we really only had mason and clayton as 1 & 2 why not use them or let them go. I think we hold onto guys to long if it was me it would be if you don't show me something in one year your gone, don't drag it on for a couple of years. It's either give him a shot in second yr or let hime go and make room for others

That was joke. I never truly thought he'd make an impact with this team.

The team hung onto him because he has the physical tools to succeed in the NFL.

As for last year, you forget about Kelley Washington. If any of the practice squad WRs were good enough, they would have beaten out Kelley or Demetrius for a job. Harper looked to have a spot sealed up but drops plagued him. Riley made two nice plays in the last game but that wasn't enough to get him a place on the 53.

I don't see how the Ravens hold onto players "too long" when there are rules that apply to every team in the league on how long you can keep a player on the practice squad.

I was just trying to say I'm happy for the guy to get a chance and i really do think we hold onto players to long. How's Smith, harper, williams to me they would have gone long ago instead of hanging around if you can't beat Washington for 3 rd spot than ya need to walk.I'm glad of the wr we have Mason, q, tj, stallworth. david reed needs to do KR or Pr we really need help in this area.

Again, how do the Ravens hang onto players too long? You keep on saying it but have no legitimate examples.

Smith got hurt last year but is justifying his spot by playing special teams right now.

Williams was a 4th round pick in '06, got 4 years to succeed, failed and now he's gone.

Harper was hurt as a rookie, literally dropped the ball trying to make the team last year and couldn't do it again this year with Q, Mason, Stallworth and now Houhmandzadeh all ahead of him and Smith being the better special teamer. Next year will be his last chance.

I agree Reed needs to return kicks(hopefully, he gets an opportunity this Sunday) but for the millionth time, he's not a punt returner.
