Tight End Shortage

10 posts in this topic

What a bad day for tight ends!

First Gates rolled his ankle and it's prognosis does not look good.

Then Cooley ends up getting a concussion.

Serviceable Tight Ends are declining steadily due to injuries and bye weeks.

So, I found some band-aids for this issue, but options are very limited due to all the good TEs are gone by now.

Benjamin Watson might be serviceable because he's surprisingly the #1 receiver in Cleveland.

Other notables:
Tony Moeaki (Cassel doesn't throw enough to him)
Todd Heap (He looked good in a crowded offense, but also have injury)
Detroit TEs (Pettigrew & Scheffer brings in consistent numbers so they're safe play)

If you guys have anything to add, please do.

Are Pettigrew and Scheffler consistent plays? I was under the impression they eat into each other's fantasy value.

If Cooley were to miss a game, Fred Davis would become a quality option.

Personally, I'm straight with Zach Miller in both the leagues I'm in and Kellen Winslow backing him up in ATD's league.

I consider their average points around 9 points in PPR recently not bad, since TEs are not known to bring in huge numbers.

You may be set in starting a tight end, but Zach Miller is known to have big days and slow days due to their erratic offense.

Welcome to what TEs were in fantasy football before the offensive explosion. There were only maybe two or three guys when I first started fantasy that put up production like they do now.

It's funny because people still draft TEs in this mindset. TEs nowadays are putting up WR type numbers but are still getting drafted at the start of the 4th round.

A few of these guys will bounce back. Not all of them will not play. You just have to keep plugging and playing. Benjamin Watson has proved serviceable. Grab Scheffler or Pettigrew. Fasano. Dressen has 2 Tds on the year.

Good news for Gates owners. He only suffered a sprained toe. He is questionable against NE. If he plays, he is a must start option.

Whew, dodge the bullet there.

But I still need to file for insurance for him.

In one of my leagues, I think I am going with Benjamin Watson if I can get him off the waiver. Or pull off a trade for Celek.

I would actually check out Jacob Tamme from the Colts now that Clark is injured. With Manning throwing to him, he's gotta put up some decent numbers. If there's nobody else available, I'd take a shot at Tamme!
