Desean Jackson

If what Glazer is reporting is true then holy hell.. that is one unreal concussion.

Last year, a concussion caused Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson to miss one game. This year, a concussion could put him out even longer.

Jay Glazer of FOX reports that Jackson suffered a "severe concussion" after being his hard by Falcons cornerback Dunta Robinson on Sunday. Glazer also reports that Jackson has suffered memory loss.

His status moving forward isn't known. He won't be able to play until he's cleared by a team doctor and an independent neurological consultant.

It's such a shame. The hits today were just lethal. These receivers are just defenseless. They are in the worst postilion right now for injuries.

The hit on Desean was just brutal.

Rodney Harrison and Tony Dungy were talking about it before the Indy and Washington game and I completely agree with their stance on it, when you have defensive players making helmet to helmet hits, sometimes even more than once in a single game (Merriweather) there should be more than a fine, $5k doesn't mean much when you're racking in over $10 million a year.

Suspension is definitely the way to go, even it's for one game. New rules should be added concerning hitting defenseless receivers, there's so many regulations on where to and where to not hit the QB, why not for receivers and other players who arguably need it much more.

The helmet to helmet stuff is ridiculous, its totally unnecessary, Robinson, Merriweather, I think Harrison did it twice today too. You can be tough without targeting a guys face with the crown of your helmet.

Yes I agree, the Helmet to Helmet stuff is something I can say is needed... with all players. I would love for the NFL to take some of the QB protected rules away and let defenses be more free to do stuff, BUT throw a flag if it's helmet to helmet. I think at this point so many players do it that suspensions aren't enough, fines aren't enough and how about suspending the player the amount of games a player misses? If he don't miss any games, than give him a 2 game suspension but if the player misses more than 2 suspend him for the amount the player is out.

Helmet to helmet? one game suspension. That's really brutal hit and I feel sorry for those defenseless recievers as well as of course D. Jackson. Man I wish you the best D. Jackson and get well soon. You're good player.

PS: This may ruin his whole career....

Exactly, there's no way you can put a dollar amount on a fine to justify helmet to helmet collisions like that.

The NFL has to change the way defenders are taught to tackle a (keyword->) defenseless receiver.

As Deion Sanders always says you need to see what you tackle and tackle what you see. That is how we taught the kids in rec and it follows through to HS.

He looked like a crash test dummy in a slow-motion accident. That was hard to watch. Best of luck, DJ.

I hope he recovers quickly.

They really need to start ejecting and suspending players, like Rodney Harrison said (and he would know) or it's not going to stop.

A shame and it looks like Robinson didn't even mean to hit him in the head. It looks like he just went for his shoulder (much like what Ray-Ray does, so don't bash Robinson), and instead ending up finding his lower head/neck region. If given a chance, on that play, I'd nail the guy every single time. You cause fumbles that way, and you pump up the crowd, just ask my favorite player Ray Lewis.

I agree, friend, when DeSean went down like a rag doll, and had to be helped off the field, that tells me he may be in trouble, and I expect he may have to retire if things get any worse for him.

Jackson was obliterated on that hit, it was hard to watch.

Hopefully he can come back from this and lead a successful career/life. The poor tackling/hitting these days is getting to the point of just dangerous. All too often, players are leading and striking with their heads, not their shoulders. It's tough for the NFL to stop that, though, they just need to enforce their rules more strictly.

Well according to PFT, the League is "ready to start" suspending players for Helmet to Helmet.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/10/18/nfl-ready-to-start-suspending-players-for-helmet-to-helmet-hits/
NFL vice president Ray Anderson told the The Associated Press the league may start suspending players for dangerous helmet-to-helmet hits.

The change could take place immediately. "Going forward there are certain hits that occurred that will be more susceptible to suspension," Anderson said.

The league could go even further after the season.

"[Anderson] said NFL could change rules after the season to ban all hits with helmets," Judy Battista of the New York Times relays.
Well I'll say this... if your going to suspend players, than suspend players a minimum of 2 games BUT if the player who got hurt misses more than 2, the player who did the helmet to helmet is suspended for additional games that the player is out.
I'm hearing that the expectations of him being out is 3 games.
wow... well hopefully Jackson gets better soon and gets healed up and can play like he did before the concussion.

Jackson is not a strong guy. His main asset is his breakaway speed. That hit was probably amplified twice as much due to his frame. They shouldn't have thrown that pass and left him out to dry.

What I'm curious about is

1.) Why is Deion Sanders giving tackling advice? He couldn't tackle a runner in a phone booth.

2.) Why is Rodney Harrison giving advice on dirty hits?

Either way, my heart goes out to DJ and his family. Here's for a speedy recovery.

Speaking of both of those two guys, it reminded me of this hilarious video:

Couldn't care less about a Deshaun Jackson other then to say I hope it's not too serious. With all of his BS show boating, he had a big hit coming to him.

Robinson definately lead with his shoulder, if you watch the angle from the defensive side you can clearly see he leads with his right arm and shoulder, sometimes(and most of the time) helmet contact is inevitable. I think out of all those hits the only one that you can clearly call dirty is Merriweather's for the simple fact that he took a big leap before the hit and actually lead with his helmet.

You know how in another thread you said hockey is faster than football and you have time to lead the big hit, while football is a bit slower game than hockey(the actual speed) the reactions that you must have in football are much more extreme. Just take a look at Harrison's hit on Massaquoi, the man didn't even take two steps and he was already plastered. Honestly don't think anyone was trying to hurt anyone else on any of those hits, except maybe Merriweather's.

Yep, don't know how he would get in this position without leading with his shoulder.

Where do you keep getting these great pictures, are these from NFL.com?

Ancient Chinese secret.

lol - Different places. ESPN actually had a better one but it disappeared. The James Harrison one was from ESPN. This one I found with a google search (Dunta Robinson hit on Jackson).

A hit like that could have happened to anyone. His showboating had nothing to do with it.

These players should all get suspended who had head to head hits. It is the only way this is going to stop.

I never said it did. Desean Jackson IS a showboat and I think he had it coming to him. He was due to get his oversized bell rung.
