We Took A Huge Step Back

97 posts in this topic

I don't think we really didn't take a step back, it just seemed like we didn't make enough adjustments in the 4th quarter offensively to keep ahead of the Patriots offense. I like most other fans on here think that Cam should have called for some more aggressive plays in the 4th quarter, and for whatever reason, our defense seemed to slip just enough to let the Pats back in the game. Also, I thought that non-existent interference penalty against Webb was one of the first things that helped the Patriots to get back in the game since the Pats always have that horseshoe in which the referee makes calls against most opposing teams that are kicking the Pats in the rear end for pretty much the whole game. If the Ravens had lost to another team, I would still be deeply disappointed, but losing to the Pats and the Steelers really doesn't sit well with me since they are the 2 teams that I hate the most. Hopefully we will get past this as quickly as possible, smack the Bills right before the bye, and roll on the rest of the season and pull off an 11-5 record or better and take down whatever teams we face in the playoffs, which will hopefully be the Pats or the Steelers.

I'm glad we're not 2-4 or 1-5. It's a very tough schedule we have. Proud of our Ravens! You win some and you lose some.

Guys of course we took a step back. We went from 4-1 and leading the AFC to 4-2 and down to the upper middle of the pack in the AFC. Yes, it's far too early to declare where we will finish in this playoff hunt....but playing like this in crunch time in the big games will not lead us to a division title. Were not the 05 Steelers or the 07 Giants. We won't win out on the road in the playoffs, we've already had two chances to do that and ultimately fell short each time.

But most importantly, we took a step back into REALITY. Let's face it, our heads were way way up in the clouds before this game and heading into the fourth quarter. The difference is, I'm back and I've been awakened by this game. But the same people who are coming at me with the fairweather fan crap still have their heads way up there and keep bashing anyone who says something even remotely negative about this team. We aren't the greatest thing ever and if you still think we are even after a loss like the one yesterday, then I don't know what it's gonna take to bring you back down to earth.

Yes there were bad calls late like the PI on Webb and a blatant missed hold on Matt Light when he was grabbing JJ on a 1st down completion to Hernandez. But when it comes down to it, we were still responsible for stopping the Pats and getting off the field....which we didn't do until they scored more points. Nothing excuses this team from this loss. Some of you keep saying you're not making excuses for the loss, but in reality you are (not everyone).

Will we recover from this loss? Absolutely.
Are we still a SB contender? Aboslutely.
But that doesn't mean were out of room for improvement.

We took a huge step back by losing to the only team in the league that is averaging 30 points a game in their barn by a FG in OT!?!

Sometimes Championship teams get lucky. Look at Pitt in '08. They faced SD, an 8-8 team that they own, Baltimore a team that they owned, and the worst defense that had ever made the Sb. Indy, Tenn, NYG, and someone else (Philly?), all of the teams they had lost to in the regular season were all conveniently disposed of. Last year, Indy only had to face two 9-7 wildcard teams to get to the big game. You never know, Baltimore might get a break.

Also, the Patriots didn't disappear last post-season, but it didn't matter, did it? The Ravens might actually learn to be aggressive for four quarters because of this game. All signs point the other direction, but hope springs eternal. ;)

Yes I do agree with you that the Steelers road to winning Super Bowl 43 against the Cardinals wasnt as tough as it very well could have been. But I look at it this way while the Steelers did lose to both the Colts and Titans that year in the regular season if both of those teams were as good as they were suppose to be during that 2008 season Indy would have beaten San Diego in the Wild Card round and Tennessee would have beaten the Ravens in the divisional round especially seeing that the Titans were at home and had the number 1 seed in the AFC. Would the Steelers have beaten both the Colts and Titans that year had they had to play them in the playoffs?? We will never know. But the bottom line is if those teams were good enough they would have won their respective games with the Chargers and Ravens and they didnt and that's not the Steelers fault because they did something the Colts and Titans didnt do they beat the Chargers and Ravens. So when you look at it that way I dont consider it getting lucky or taking a shortcut to getting to or winning a Super Bowl. The Steelers beat who they had to beat that year and if the Titans and Colts both werent good enough to advance further in the playoffs and play the Steelers that's not the Steelers problem...

this game was a tough loss but it would be "huge" if we loss this way at home to them but we loss in there place where they never loose and after their bye... I really didn't expect us to carry a lead and time of possession for most of the game.. Flacco did throw too many check-downs to rice but I want to know why the receivers don't have any underneath bailout routes for us ( that's all NE did all game underneath drags )

Let's not forget that Ray and the defense let a 10 pt lead slip away.. the defense used to hang onto a 3pt lead for us then we would blow it in the end this time we gave a cushion and the offense became a ravens offense of old
