Can We Please Find A Punt Returner!?

25 posts in this topic

We are the worst in the league when it comes to PR yardage. I don't understand this because Harbaugh was a Special Teams coach. He needs to address this problem. I'm tired of watching this team play good defense and stop the opposing team at their 20 yardline only to get the ball back at our 19.

There are more things to worry about other than punt returning as of now. The main thing is the fact that they can start out great and move the ball then just fizzle out and get all complacent. They deserved to lose that game when you get THREE chances in OT to do something and they did absolutely NOTHING!! They better hope they can get their stuff together and learn how to FINISH games before the find them selves trying to dig out a hole that is impossible!!

Who would you suggest? And who would you cut/take off the gameday active roster?

I recall David Reed was drafted exactly for this role and that he's on the roster as well. Any idea why he's not being used?

Wilson would have been returning kicks had he not strained his hamstring last week against the Broncos. On punt returns, it looks like Carr is the guy with Zibby banged up unless the coaches are confident enough to let Ed return them.

The most important part of being a punt returner is catching the ball. So if a player has good return skills but not so good in catching the ball, he is more of a negative than a positive. The Ravens are going with guys that most importantly can catch the punt.

What does Harbaugh being a special teams coach have to do with anything? You can't teach a player how to field punts better or become quicker and more explosive.

It's simply a position the Ravens aren't getting a lot of production from right now but it's not a huge deal.

Reed didn't return punts in college.

Who cares as long as Zibby is not back there. Just get him off the field altogether, he is a good fill in, nothing more. He doesn't impact the game enough to start on this D. And punt return man please.

BJ Sams is always out there. He lead the UFL in return yards in its 2009 inaugural season. Then we could convince the Bear that follows Ray Lewis around to play special teams. And we would have a mighty BJ and the Bear combo.

Punt returns are part of "Special Teams" and we stink all the way around. When was the last time we
1.Returned a punt/kick-off for a touchdown
2.Blocked a punt/field goal attempt
3.Faked a punt/field goal attempt
Not to mention kicking the ball out of bounds on a kick-off or causing a fumble on a return. And blocking in the back is B.S. on returns. This makes for bad field position.

What is the point? Anytime we return for a good chunk of yards it is a penalty for block in the back every time.

So true!

Webb housed a kick last year. I think the last punt return for a TD was Ed's in '07. Considering some teams go multiple years without returning kicks/punts for TDs, I'm comfortable with the Ravens' return game.

Blocked punts and kicks are fluky. Unless you've got Julius Peppers or someone else, you're not going to block many kicks and it usually takes a breakdown to see a blocked punts.

The team forced and recovered a fumble on a KO return against the Broncos last week.

I agree that we need a punt returner, but i think it was best said, who do you propose we take off active roster. Its best to have a punt returner who also plays on O or D.

David Reed isn't a punt returner. Throughout his entire collegiate career, in fact, he only had one punt return (for 3 yards). David Reed is a kick returner just like Parmele, Wilson, etc..

Punt return /= kick return

YES it is quite sad to see our SPECIAL TEAMS so pathetic now!! after all the years of being spoiled by Jermaine Lewis, BJ Sams, even a few returns by Figurs, but it just hasn't be dynamic in recent years at all.. I don't care if Parmele had close to 30yd a return last yr it's not like he ever took punts back deep or came close to a touchdown.. bottom line we use to have returners be the ones to get us across mid-field because the offense couldn't now our returners run out of endzone when the ball is 6 yds deep don't even get to the 20.. punts go for 2yds after guys run horizontal

Parmele has never returned a punt in his career.

I feel like D.Reed, P.Miller maybe M.Smith hell housh use to return kicks back in Cincy and he isn't our #1 WR so he is also an option.. bottom line anything is better than what we currently are getting.. M.Smith is only a special teamer so give him a shot.

Miller was impressive in preseason (does he fumble that much??) why d.Reed can't get one shot at a return or even Nakamura.. We already know that Carr, Zibby cnt get it down maybe parmele needs to lose the job for him to start hitting wholes harder

I say let Carr do the returning :argdancingravensblueonwkk8:

I don't see any difference. They both don't even know when to field the punt. One of the punts in ovetime could have and should have been fair caught around the 35 yard line. Instead, either Carr or Zibi (can't remember) let it bounce and we wound up with the ball inside our 20.

Thats just one example. There have been other times when they shouldn't have fielded it and they did, pinning us inside the 5.
