Why Does Cam Call The Dumbest Plays On 3rd & Short?

165 posts in this topic

I don't think it's cams play calling thats suspect as much as maddison. We were all afraid of what a good QB could do with time against his non blitzing system.

3rd and a good 1 and you do a qb sneak, with mcclain in the backfield? thats a bad call.
THAT call was fine. Flacco is just too< delete> to READ a defense and take two steps to his left once he gets the snap.

But yes, Cam Cameron is horrible... and Flacco makes him look even worse. Mattison is horrible... and I can only hope that Ed Reed's return makes him look a lot less horrible.

95% of Cam's calls are absolutely HORRIBLE. 5% make him look like a play calling God.

It's time to pull a Brian Billick and fire the OC during the season.

Mattisons defense was stellar all day except the last Patriot drive for a FG, where Im almost positive he slowed the defense down so that he was sure they wouldnt give up a TD. That was the only time I had issue with Mattison today. Cameron on the other hand wow, how F'in long are you going to keep Houshmandzadeh on the bench like seriously. You give him the ball twice on the first series and then just let him disappear? We had 1 first down on 3 drives in OT and im not sure we got past half in the 4th quarter against a TERRIBLE Patriots secondary thats full of kids my own age. We had this game, all we had to do was keep the Pats defense on the field and we failed utterly on offense, that grinds my gears.

It just didn't make any sense to call a qb sneak and you have a whole yard to squirm through. Mcclain mcclain mcclain would have got that first down and we would have probably scored. This game should not have been a loss!

This game was unbelievable and we got outplayed due to Cam's continued foolishness. Like someone said above after the failed QB sneak the game fell apart. Almost as if Cam said "Well thats the best I can do, here's a list of plays that all go to rice, and I'll see you guys in Baltimore."

I'm sick of seeing plays where only 2 guys go downfield are perfectly covered so we have to revert to checking down to the third option. The Patriots had 7 guys covering 3 and easily beat us. When we came out with more options Flacco dominated. Unfortunately we can't fire Cam because who is going to be better mid season that would want to join us? Billick, lol?

This is purely joking, but I wonder what Billick could do with these weapons.

I was disappointed with not using the other players.

TJ looked great in the first quarter, and afterward he doesn't get a single target for the rest of the game. When you're down or driving for the game winning FG/TD why would you not use one of your best offsensive assets? Between Boldin, Mason, Housh, and Heap, one of them is bound to get a good chance to make a catch. Instead Flacco threw checkdowns for the safe pass instead of trying to win it.

Why did Willis McGahee not even see the field? The Patriots were well rested and their DLine was getting excellent push and stuffing Rice in the backfield. They should have brought in McGahee who's more of a powerback and can push the blockers. That's why you use a two-back system to help for a change of pace and keep your running game well rested as well the opposing defense tired out.

This is not how you use all these talented pieces of your offense. Get them in the game.

Its Mattison. If you're going to insult him at least get his name somewhat right.

If you give Brady 45 pass attempts, hes going to find the holes. Hes a great QB. You need to control the ball in the 4th quarter and keep him off the field.

With that being said, people need to chill out. We're 4-2, we've played 3 of the top 5 teams in the NFL away, and we have the bills next week with ed reed returning. Theres is no need to fire Cam Cameron. That would result in panic in our team, our offense, and Flacco. You only fire someone when things are at their worst, and we're simply not there. We played a great team, away, with them coming off a bye, and lost by a field goal

How long can Cam stay on as OC? It's not like it's something new that his play calling looks rather odd and dumb.
First half was fine, then it just got weird, and way too conservative... Maybe he's an offensive genius, or was, but it's not working for this team.

Why did we keep running at the end instead of spreading it out? I knew there would be someone blaming Flacco for this. We couldn't really run the ball as well as we wanted to, and the coaches decided to go conservative. After it became 20-17, we had plenty of opportunities to score. We had the ball like 5 times, but we did nothing for the entire fourth quarter and OT. Also, we didn't get nearly enough pressure on Brady.

I remember getting trashed when I criticized Cam during the first game against the Jets. XD

It's hard to completely throw him under the bus when you think about how bad Baltimore's offense was before he came, but if he keeps doing this and if his offense falls apart in the post season again (if they make it that far, of course), then people will really start calling for his head.

The play calling in the second half was horendous. How many times is Cam going to throw the ball to rice when he's standing at the line of scrimage. He called the same play over and over and it never worked. The people who have been blaming Joe for Ravens problems now have evidence as to where the real blame lies. Same with the Cincin game. The same with the Denver game. The inconsistencies do not start with Joe, They start with cam and his game plan and his play calling.

A good example of bad play calling is the QB sneak. There was no way the QB or the RB was going up the middle because Pats stacked the middle. Joe had no choice but to run that play because that is what Cam called.

Cam will be gone if we poo the bed in the playoffs offensively again, its getting ridiculous, like do we run the same 5-8 plays for an entire game? Hell if your gonna dump the ball off to Rice and least have him cut across the field

The gameplan didn't work. NE made adjustments at halftime and we didn't. The gameplans have been pretty bad in almost everygame this season.

Why is TJ targeted twice in the first drive, and then becomes an after thought. So agitated right now, Cam makes absolutely NO SENSE some days.

I actually have more issues with Cam's 2nd down calls than the 3rd down ones. The 3rd down calls were at least working in the 1st half.

The offense was stinky 4th qtr. and beyond!
Our D got tired.
Our front D was dead tired, and our secondary was in array of confusion. I don't know with that move from Oher was about giving us 2 penalty in a roll near end zone territory. That was totally a waste.

*Prepares flame shield*

Cam Cameron is an awful play caller/OC. He tries to be too smart at times, but it backfires right back, and sometimes, he is ridiculously predictable and sometimes too bland (I.e. 3 WR shotgun formation and everybody runs a curl route) Plus, he cannot utilize his personnel correctly. Like the fade to Mason. I know Mason caught one against the Steelers last year, but Mason isn't the type of receiver that catches fade routes. It is a very low-percentage play, and it would have been better to run the ball or go with a different pass route. With the Boldin fade, I understand that because Boldin is excellent at using body control and has very strong hands (But a poor throw from Joe there).

My biggest gripe with him this season is the lack of use of our young tight ends. Look at New England. They have had plenty of success using the tight ends in a way to make them successful. Gronkowski is a good inline blocker and a very good redzone threat due to his tremendous size. Therefore, Brady and co. use him in the redzone. Aaron Hernandez is basically a huge wide receiver, and he can make people miss in the open field and has decent enough speed to get by LBs and enough size to beat CBs.

Pitta and Dickson could be a huge boost to the offense and add another dimension, but Cam Cameron is using them VERY sparingly for whatever reason

/end rant

This game was lost on the sideline between the two coordinators. They went soft on the 4th quarter and gave the game to the Patriots. The phantom PI on Webb hurt, but you can't play prevent for 25 minutes and expect to win on the road with only a ten-point lead.

Awful play calling.

Would it be fair to say that Todd Heap's best days were wasted on Kyle Boller and the best receiver corps this team has ever had is being wasted on dump offs to Rice? Maybe it's too soon to say that.
