This is why I don't want Merriman and proof he's a shell of a player without roids, watch what MJD does to him.

Merriman will probably go to a team within the division (KC, OAK, or DEN). That is usually what Veteran free agents do.

Really? News to me. Veteran players tend to go wherever the money takes them. I could pull out dozens of examples just within recent years.

I was thinking the Jets...they like getting veterans on the back end of their careers.

Another reason we wont sign Merriman is that Kindle is showing signs of progression.

So he was suspended for 4 games in 06-07 for a "performance enhancing drug". OH NO! He still came back in 07-08 for 54 tackles and 12.5 sacks. Even right after his suspension he went on to get 21 tackles and 8.5 sacks in what? 5 games? Plus he past the leagues "performance enhancing drug tests" 19-20 times since he entered the league. Maybe he decided to see if it would do something only one time and it didn't go well, who knows. But passing 19 of 20 tests is almost like being tested monthly since he entered the league DURING the season.

In 2006 he was told by one of his own teammates that his little "dance" was uncalled for? OK. In 2006 the Chargers were just "LIGHTS OUT" and lost what? 2 games all season? Then in 2007 because they lost the 2nd, 3rd and 4th games of the season, his teammates were telling him to bring the dance back to spark the team again? OK

So in comes 2008. THE MAN wants to play through the pain of his knee even after being told by some doctors if he doesn't have it surgically repaired, it could potentially end his career - but he wants to play for his team. That doesn't say "Warrior" or anything, LOL. But then he has the surgery anyways as far as I know.

Annnnnnd 2009. Merriman's coming back from reconstructive knee surgery and a foot injury (probably sustained from rehab on his knee, who knows) and still goes on to have 24 tackles and 4 sacks. It's no where near what he's capable of, but not bad for 14 games and coming back from knee surgery.

Enter 2010. The team wants to trade him. He's dealt with teammates "criticizing" his behavior, knee surgery and the 1 out of 20 positive performance enhancing drug tests.

I WOULD LIKE TO SEE seeing Shawn Merriman as a Raven.

Cool story bro.

We need a better pass rush, but he brings too much baggage.

Care to elaborate?

I've had a chance to sleep on this since originally posting this subject. I still think it'd be smart for Oz to take a serious look at him. Talk to Ray and see how he feels about it as well. Then if the price is right, go for it. 1 year deal, nothing to lose. I still think Lamar Divens and even Edgar Jones (even though I love him) are ultimately expendable. We will cut Hamlin once Reed comes back.

Don't kid yourself, 24 tackles and 4 sacks in 14 games is straight out awful even considering the fact that he got injured. Umenyiora got 7 sacks when he came back from his torn ACL, and he played about the same amount (Remember how he got benched) as Merriman did. If you saw Merriman play this year, you could see that he had no explosiveness whatsoever and looked flat out bad

According to Adam Schefter Marriman is very interested in playing for the Ravens.

Doesn't mean the Ravens are interested though....

I saw sheftner say that to and honestly, i think we should work him out at least and see what hes made of. If the front office feels that he'll be able to improve our D i wouldn't mind it at all. Everyone has been saying hes washed up and hes been nothing without the roids..which is kind of true but if he can get his game up and show some flashes of his past, he would be a great situational pass rusher for us for now.

Of course he wants to play here, it would give him a free pass to a ring :P

Edit: Work him out and see if he bites on the vet minimum. Maybe he has some juic... gas left in him.

Given his choice, San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman would like to play in Baltimore, Miami or Dallas. But in all likelihood, he will not have his choice, at least not yet. And if the Chargers release Merriman on or past Tuesday's NFL trade deadline, he first must clear waivers, which will open the door for another team to claim him and his $3.269 million contract.

In all 3 of those places he'd be just a situational pass rusher. Dolphins arent going to take Misi or Wake off and Ware and Spencer are staying on the field for Dallas. I reeeeeeeeeeeally wish Kindle didnt do what he did in the worst way.

Agreed. Watching QBs sit back while Suggs is either doubled or stoned by the o-lineman and no one else an make the beat their man has gotten increasingly frustrating.

Merriman of course he wants to play here... he is a former Terp so why wouldn't he want to come home and play for his home team?

His other 2 choices... Miami and Dallas? I don't think he wants to go to Dallas since they are 1-4 and like someone brought up Miami is stacked at LB. Sure we could use another pass rusher but JJ isn't that bad and where would Merriman fit in at on the defense?

If Merriman clears waivers, I expect that since he is injured a team will only give him a 1, 2 year deal at best and teams that need that extra push to get into the playoffs or contend for a division title will get him. Similar to how I feel about Vincent Jackson, I still think someone will trade for him to make that extra push toward the playoffs.

If you look at the teams who could use Merriman... Tampa is one team who could use Merriman to get a spark(no pun intended) to get a wild card spot in the NFC, Houston could use him since they just lost Demeco Ryans for the year, I can see KC making a push for him, with the way Romeo has got the Chiefs defense, that could bring out the old Merriman. The Rams could use a LB to help their push to winning the NFC West. It will be interesting to see who gets him if he clears waivers.

Jay Glazer said on the OT he is trying to pass his physical tomorrow.

That's what I heard too. 49ers too. It'll be interesting.

I wouldn't mind us getting him, for the veteran minimum.

Slight problem with that is he'd have to clear waivers and, if the 49ers are interested, they'd be first in line to get him.

As a situational pass rusher, for veteran minimum, I really don't see the damage Merriman could do if he doesn't pan out. It's almost guaranteed that he wont return to his previous, juiced, form but our pas rush needs any boost it can get.

Low Risk/Medium Reward signing.

After what I saw in the Bills game... let's see what this guy can do. We have a bye week where we absolutely have to do something about pass rush, and this guy could still be one of the best at his position.
