Watch Out For Patriots Special Team

16 posts in this topic

I have a feeling this is the only significant advantage Patriots have against us, that hasn't been overlooked. I know Cam will have some deep Offense playcalls ready for Patsies, and Defense will too, but for some reason, our Special Team always look half-prepared and has little or no major play-making ability.

There are some dangerous ST players in pats. Look out for ...

Brandon Tate:
He has killed Miami's morale from the start with his Kick off TD. His explosive in speed, and has good temper in being patient and reading the field before running off.
Our PR/KR almost never reads the field, and usually tries to force the ball with just straight pure athleticism..it never works.

Patrick Chung:
His a phenomenal play-maker, and I can't believe their still using this guy on Special Team so aggressively. Our Ravens special team has been struggling from kickoff/punt return, and often causing fumbles and wasteful TDs to an opponent. He looks to be a star for pats, and often more than not preys on weak ST.

We are struggling for return yardage but not on coverage IMO. What TD have we given up on ST? None. Cundiff has been kicking 5-9 yds into the endzone the majority of the time. Koch has been almost non-returnable on punts. I don't expect us to return one to the house because it is an area that we have struggled in this season but neither do I expect that they will either.

I might agree to watch out, but I never heard about Pats special teams before that monday nighter. I think their ST flair was reserved for that one game. Fluke/Miami's inability to block.

Special teams have played an important role in the NFL this season. Who could forget when Oakland's ST blocked and intercepted 2 kicks to score 12 points in their defeat against the Chargers last Sunday?!

Its going to take discipline in our STers lanes to contain Tate. I imagine even if Cundiff kicks one a couple yards in the endzone he's still going to take it out. Guys like Smith and Burgess are going to have be lights out this game we cant give up ST points, and we for damn sure cant give Brady a short field.

Patriots excel in ST but with Harbaugh being an ex-specialist in that area, dont expect to see our coverage exploted by any means.

I don't see any significant advantage to New England. I think the Dolphins awful special teams play made them look like world beaters. Whilst I'm sure we'll exercise caution, we've already dealt with some good special team units this season - such as the Jets, and the Browns.

I agree, I don't know what TDs we've given up and I can only think of one fumble on a kickoff. OUR return game is adequate thus far, although not fancy enuf for some of the Raven faithful. Zibby gives us consistency and good hands there on punts; on KO, we've done well if not brilliant, but we've also got some young guy bck there.

Coach Rosburg NEVER overlooks the other teams ST and between Cundiff and Koch, very few balls have been runback for any appreciable yards. I'm not sure where you get the idea that Baltimore doesn't cover on ST and don't forget, both our kickers make tackles too.

Just have Cundiff kick it in the endzone on kickoffs like last week and hope that Sam Koch has a good game and can punt well.

I agree because that has been the result of why we have one the games that we have. We haven't been giving up good field position because of Cundiff and Koch and that has helped our defense to what they do best and create 3-and-outs, punts and holding teams to only field goals.

Just run the score up so much no matter what happens (fumbles, penalties etc) none of it will matter because the Ravens will be too far ahead. Crush the life out of them on defense and then run the ball all over them.

I wouldn't be opposed to this if it meant that all sides of the ball are now consistently playing well. I have a feeling this isn't going to be a close game but it could go either way.
