Troy Smiths Highlight Tape Is Ridiculous

12 posts in this topic

I came across this tape, and was very shocked how much poise and accuracy Troy displayed his Sr. year ...He is a double threat who seemed to carry this trait over to the NFL... I don't think we should grab a QB with our 1st pick...I do however think this mans video deserves some press/talk amongst the Raven junkies who get off on Ray Lewis, and the Boyz kicking a** gettin loose on Any Given Sunday....Much Luv Yall.............................

this is an old video, but a great one...troy smith has great mechanics and pocket presence...in all honesty (dont laugh) he moves around and bounces in the pocket just like payton manning, which is a good thing! (goes to show he does have good mechanics)... that is why i feel he can be the starter next year and lead this team to VICTORY!!!

Its been said plenty of time, This is the NFL not college. Just because one does well in college or even wins the heisman trophy does not mean He will be a instant sucess.Only eight winners of the Heisman are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but four winners have also been named Most Valuable Player in a Super Bowl.

Dont have Smith trown in too early and have his career ruined.

I think its kind of funny that in a Troy Smith topic, all I had to do was look at members' avatars to see if they would defend or denounce Troy as the starter next year.

I think Troy Smith has a wonderful chance of being the future franchise QB of our team, but right now I think its best if he plays 2nd string for at least another year behind McNair and continues watching and learning, and getting some more playing time in here and there through out the 2008 season. That is if McNair can stay healthy...if he can't I would still rather see Boller come in as the starter (as long as he can be consistent) with Troy as his backup as well. I'm really fond of Troy and I don't want to throw him to the dogs so to speak before he is ready to be a fulltime starter like we did Boller.

I have always defended Troy Smith, I think this guy can really be a very good QB, I just hope He does not get thrown in there too early, Last year i was all for Troy Smith starting a few games because the O-Line couldent block for nothing. I still think McNair can come back and take us to a championship, The guy came to Baltimore in 06 and learned the playbook without valuable summer training camps, and took us too a 13-3 record. With a new and proven OC and a full summer to learn the game plan He can do the same. If Mcnair is healthy then Troy Smith will defiently learn alot from him because Smith really is a Mini version of McNair. Troy Smith is still learning and adjusting to the NFL, I think if our same system was in place as last year then He could have came in and started, but with him being so young and a brand new system to learn is just better to sit back and learn.

plain and simple....with more time and more practice...with the extra mentorship from the other quarterbacks on this team...his time will come. and with that development...will come the attention he would deserve..but as for right now......there's really no point in the media flocking to Troy as of yet because he really hasnt done anything just yet.... thus is why with time and time to develop...those types of things will come and he will become a real threat for us against opposing teams.

I don't think he looks anything like peyton manning. But he does look like Steve McNair in his prime. Look at he completion he threw after he got sandwich tackled.....thats so steve mcnair like. And his mobility is also very steve mcnair like. I don't think he could find a more perfect mentor than steve mcnair, how lucky was he that he got drafted to the same team as steve mcnair. I remember the titans wanted mcnair to take a paycut and stay in Ten, but only because they wanted him to sculpt vince young to be just like him in his prime, that was their whole plan and idea...it only made perfect sense to draft young with having a guy like mcnair. but it all fell apart n they traded mcnair to us. And now we got the same opportunity with smith. vince young kinda sucked last year and i know ten wish mcnair was still there to mentor him.

boller never had a mentor, he was thrown to the wolves. but even when mcnair came along boller showed a lot more confidence and played a lot better, especially because mcnair was coaching him after every snap in 2006, the few times boller got to play that is. i think smith is in the perfect situation to flourish as a nfl qb. I don't understand, if drew brees can do it, why can't smith? all smith does is win, and all he has done on the ravens is play well. brees actually sucked his first few yrs. how come vick and gerrard can do it but smith cant? smith drops all the way to the later rounds just because he is short? i just don't get that.

i am sure of one thing, if the ravens draft matt ryan, we are in the same boller situation. the OL is not meant for a pocket qb because it collapses in 0.1 seconds. and smith will be like derrick anderson, making a name for himself elsewhere.

no player is ever the same as another...they are two completely different people and Players in general, they may share some similarities with this and that, but overall they are two different players in which go about playing the game the way they will play it, and not otherwise. and thus noone should compare any player out there to anyone else...to do such a thing is ludacris and absurd, especially when they start talking and "comparing" them to those whom earned to be Called "Great" in the NFL because, just think about it for a second here, your comparing someone who is a completely different person and player, thus goes about doing his job differently...to those "greats" out there....like Brett Favre said about Rodgers "he needs to be his own player and not 'Brett Favre'..play his own game". thats what the players of today need to do, and not judge their game and performances to those of past greats. if you do that then thats only setting yourself up for failure.

Someone already posted that video, and the samething stands out to me. Those db's make those guys look like probowlers, they stink. TD #'s 6,8,10,21, and 22 are int's in the NFL and those are the ones I paid attention too. Like I said those college db's make those guys look better then what they are, receivers where wide open on a lot of those. It's a little different in the NFL, but I wish him the best.

even still.....last season during the course of the last few games i think we all saw how Troy really showed how much he had progressed thus far in the season and it showed in his overall poise and confidence....and thats something that the Team and other players took notice of, yea it was against the back ups in the NFL right now, but to be honest.....he is still a developing type of quarterback and so gaining confidence is crucial for his development and the team. and thus seeing how he is still learning and adapting and honing his skills, thats the type of competition in which he should be up against RIGHT NOW, so that his skills get honed in and he gets comfortable with everything, then move on from that point forward. would you or anyone rather see him struggle and watch his confidence get shot to hell like we did with Boller? i would hardly think so and so the issue of level of competition Troy is facing right now..i think suites him just fine for where he is at.
