NFL 2K13 Comes One Step Closer To Reality

14 posts in this topic
Another step towards NFL 2K13 seems to have been made. As reported back in late January, rumors have been swirling around TakeTwo (T2), the parent company of 2K Games and 2K Sports, that preparations were being made to bid on the NFL license in 2012 once EA's exclusivity agreement ends.
Finally, A good football game will be coming out!!

ESPN 2K5, Best football game ever, EA sports cant even compare to it.

Other than the presentation, I wasn't impressed with ESPN NFL 2K5 back when it first released and the game, unsurprisingly, doesn't hold up all that well today. I categorize that as one of my more overrated games that diehards defend to death, largely because I think a good portion of the 2K camp (not the majority) consists of people who consider EA Sports the devil and blindly defend the game without justification.

For $20, the game wasn't bad, but compared to Madden 2005, I felt I got more bang for my buck with Madden even with the full retail price tag.

I wouldn't mind seeing competing titles, but 2K's last offering, All-Star Football 2K8, was hugely underwhelming. The lack of an NFL license aside, the gameplay was atrocious. Even an NFL license couldn't have saved that title.

For me to stop playing Madden will take a lot 2K13 better be a show stopper! The Madden community is really big right now!

The glitches and dumb patterns in Madden from year to year grow on you and you get familiar with them, so a change would be a challenge.

Exactly. I will be honest, I never played Madden until Madden 05, I always played NFL Gameday until that was no longer being made. In fact if Gameday was still around I probably wouldn't be playing Madden, I enjoyed Gameday and once that was done, I switched to Madden 2005. Right now I am a Madden gamer so it will take more than presentation to get me to buy NFL 2K13. If they give me a FULL Franchise, everything from RFA/URFA, Being able to Tender Players, better Free Agency/Draft AI, and most importantly Owner Mode, I may consider buying NFL 2K13 if it comes out.

I wonder what group is bigger, Madden fanboys or Final Fantasy diehards.

I stopped playing FF after FF:VII. For its time, that game was boss.

I'm going to have to agree with the majority here; Madden has been around forever it seems and to change over to T2 would just seem like a risky move. Sure Madden has its glitches (run blocking, nano-blitzing, etc.) but those are minor details compared to a complete overhaul.

Then again, I am the same guy who said a few months ago I think Madden should do an overhaul of the game. But only Madden!

For an example of the potential 2K has I think you would only need to turn your attention to NBA 2K11 which has basically wiped it's competition, EA's Elite 11 off the face of the earth. That and 2K5 and All Pro football 2K8, two games that didn't have the 4 million sales per annum for it's production values, yet were technically superior sims.

As for anti-Madden sentiment it has picked up a bit this year, and in turn the Madden defenders and shill squads seem to have died down.

This is the next NFL video game I'm spending $60 on.

Madden feels so scripted and artificial. 2k5 was an amazing game technically and visually. Madden just updated the receiver animations to make them more fluent, before Madden 11, NFL 2k5's animations could compare to 09 and even 10. Next gen consoles have the capability to do SO much more than what Madden puts out there half heartedly every season and yet people keep flocking to it like every year like it's a revolutionary change.

I'd like to see both titles made, that way Madden would be forced to make a halfway decent game instead of the same crap I'm forced to buy if I want a football simulation game. Heck, I'd rather play Nintendo 64 football than Madden sometimes, but at other times, I think Madden is just in need of a little competition. The reason Madden bought the NFL license is twofold; 1) to put 2k out of business because they knew they were going to be the super football game power; 2) to cut off any competition chances so they can sit back on their laurels and just watch their money stream in.

I would love to see a new , NFL 2k game as well. I was still playing my old one before I sold my system. I felt like the overall game play was much better than Madden was and still is. Although , I did buy Madden 2011, mostly because there is nothing else out there currently.

exactly, when I hate on Madden and make fun of it, people take it the wrong way. I know its the only thing. I play it too..... and laugh at the glitches.

Here is a good way to look at it:

When 2K and Madden Made Games:

WWE vs WCW... WWE and WCW put out their best shows each week to top one another.

Now:

WWE = EA Sports. Without competition both feel no need to push the limit like they use to. EA Sports & Vince McMahon can sit there and accept mediocore games/storylines knowing that they are the only option out there and because of that people will flock to them since if you want to get your wrestling/football video game fix you'll have to watch WWE and you'll have to buy Madden.
