Nike Set To Become NFL's Uniform Provider

20 posts in this topic

I just saw this story on PFW: http://www.profootballweekly.com/2010/10/12/nike-to-replace-reebok-as-nfls-uniform-provider-in

Hopefully, we get to see some of combat-style uniforms Nike has done for a number of college teams.

That'd be sick. But I doubt they do much to them.

Bah, RBK is the way to go. Honestly won't be surprised to see jersey prices go up now that Nike's making them.

There are a lot of pretty exciting avenues for Nike to explore here, like TCU's slick frogskin uniforms maybe we could have like a purple feather print for the jerseys? logo and uniform changes aren't new, and I'm all for merging retro with progressive.

I'm not sure how I would feel about a Nike redesign. Many of the current designs are classic, and (for the most part) recognizable from a glance. How would people who own many, many jerseys feel if Nike were to redesign them? If they do, I'd like for them to avoid as much "cheese" as possible.

I dont think Nike can even redo them to the extent you think, that would be up to the organization. Nike might change the material and or some slight changes, but im pretty sure the organization has the final say on a uniform...Nike's not going to tell the Packers that they now are wearing jerseys with the toolbox thing on their shoulders like Oregon has.

I'm not saying they can just go change a jersey, I'm stating as in a generalized statement regarding any redesigns that may come up with a new uniform contract.

Yeah, the deal doesn't necessarily stipulate that there'll be a rollout of new uniforms across the league. If you remember when Reebok signed their exclusive deal in 2003 or 2004, there were no announced uniform changes other than the introduction of more alternate-color jerseys. Over time, teams went to Reebok with proposals for new uniforms, mostly for morale reasons. It was rarely the other way around. Teams to get a new uniform since that deal were the San Diego Chargers, the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Detroit Lions, the San Francisco 49ers, the Minnesota Vikings, and the Arizona Cardinals. In the case of the Lions and 49ers, they weren't radical redesigns but updates to their traditional look.

I'd kind of like to see some fresh uniform designs for the NFl. Nothing too radical of course; I'd like to see some subtle changes.

Under-Armour's geat for athletes: its sleek and traps heat, which is good if you're working out in the cold.

what if nike comes up with a deal with under armour that adds their material to the jersey design? could be very interesting.

how ticked will Nike be if there is a lock out next year.
All dressed up and no place to go.

Heh, Nike might as well just buy up Under-Armour: it would definitely be worth their investment. Yay mergers! :ICONATOR_01040da29c18a4eed76047

No friggin way! Imagine how much a jersey would cost with under armour and Nike.
That's exactly why Nike would by Under-Armour: it's all about the $$$!

It's not the trapping of heat that makes under garments of any sort effective. It's the transfer of sweat away from the skin and out to another layer. That and the ability to breathe.
