Patriots Trade For Deion Branch

12 posts in this topic

After parting ways with Moss, New England sent a fourth round draft pick to Seattle in exchange for their old buddy Deion Branch. While Moss wasn't doing too much this year, I'm not sure how much Branch will bring to the table this year. Of course, he's going from an aged Hasselbeck to Tom Brady as his quarterback, so I could see his numbers improving. It'll be interesting to see what the depth chart looks like with Branch in town again.

It's all on the Ravens secondary yet again. All NE has is a pass game (and maybe special teams). Why does it seem so many teams are suddenly pass-only? Weird unbalanced trend in the NFL.

Its what happens when you protect QB's and give defenses a baseball strike zone from where you can hit them, protect WRs coming across the middle from their own QBs crappy throws, and when Bill Polian gets his way.

4th is a bit high for a 31yo.

4th is very high indeed. Especially considering he hasn't done anything of note since leaving the Patriots. When I heard he was traded for a draft pick I thought it would be a 6th or a 7th.

yeah it is, but considering the number of picks the pats have in the first 4 rounds this year they might not be too bothered

Deion Branch is only 31 years old, but doesn't it seem like he's been in the league for 100 years?

He's only started 16 games over the last 3 years. Even though he's familiar with Brady, he shouldn't be a huge factor.

Patriots - Moss + Branch is weaker.

Imagine the damage Ozzie could do with all those picks, he'd set the league back 5 years :P
[/quote]

i'm pretty sure the league doesn't allow ozzie that many picks for that exact reason!

I know...sometimes when I see NE gather picks like they do, I sit there and just hope Ozzie just waits for a trade to pick up more draft picks, whether it's for the current draft or the following year's draft. I remember at the end of the draft Ozzie discussed that teams wanted to trade up when they were on the clock in the 5th, and Ozzie stood put and took David Reed and Arthur Jones I was thinking I would have moved down and especially giving there was a chance we could have got extra picks in the 2011 Draft, to be honest I would rather have traded the pick we used on Arthur Jones to move down and get extra picks for 2011 and maybe a extra pick in last year's draft.

Yep that is true, I'm surprised some team is willing to give Ozzie more picks to work with.... but on the other hand unless your name is Josh McDaniels who is willing to give Ozzie a bunch of picks than well the league can't help that!
