Merged--Week 6: Patriots

247 posts in this topic

With all those young CB's, our WR's should have no problem. We've already seen what Rice can do against this defense.
Bottom-line is, there defense doesn't scare me at all.

With that being said, this game will be @NE after a bye week. So this will be a tough one. But we still should win this game.

The Pats scare me less then they ever have after losing Moss and the playoff game but I think this will be a tough one. Rice shows up like this week I think I'll be happy for another Sunday evening.

I have a feeling that after last year, Bill will gameplan to take away Rice. Force Joe to throw. Bill knows we have to many options in the air to halt, but he can stop Rice. And with two weeks to prepare he already has a concrete gameplan in affect.

IMO, this game will be put on Joe's and the passing Offense hands. No Turnovers and we can come away with the win.
[/quote]

I agree that may be the gameplan but I don't know if the Pats have the talent at linebacker to make it work. Teams that have been able to shutdown Rice have had to spy him with a linebacker (see: Gary Brackett, Walt Harris, Rey Mauluga, etc.). Outside of Jerrod Mayo the pats are weak at linebacker and I think we will be able to exploit that.

Agreed, but as in the Jets game, we continued to utilize the run even though it wasn't "successful" which opened up Boldin, et al. down the field on play-action.

Flacco is going to find another young CB to pick on lol. I noticed last week against the Dolphins that there were probably 4 clean hits on Brady that could have been called as "roughing the Brady". But they weren't and they were fair about it. Hopefully they let our guys play this week, cause God knows they're hungry. THey aren't gonna stop trying to hit him

Why do we have 3 threads about the Patriots being the next team up? I don't know where to post!

While I'd love to see a repeat of last year where the Ravens just pounded the rock relentlessly, I have a feeling Joe will have a big game too. The Pats don't have a player in their secondary that can cover Q, Mason, Houshmandzadeh or Heap.

Also, I'm hoping Dickson has a few passes thrown his way.

The key on defense is obviously to zero in Welker, but if were too comfortable sitting back and taking Bradys options out, they could start giving it to Green Ellis and he could have a pretty good game.

We oughta put Webb, a speedy and athletic player on Welker along with a little help. I'm thinking another speedy and athletic player (Nakamura) could be the answer at safety help. Welker will not beat us deep, but over the middle and in the open space he is obviously at his most dangerous.

And the primary way to stop Green Ellis imo is to keep Ray up front and not put him in coverage.

Pats defense is very soft. They have good young players but they're still developing. Our pass game and run game should both dominate. We need to "spy" Welker and watchout for Julian Edleman and Woodhead. Both of them are similar to Welker. With that being said i think we win in Foxboro 27-17

One of our biggest benefits during last year's wild card game was the absence of Wes Welker. Needless to say, Welker is back this game. I am confident though that we can shut him down. Our offense is still a little shaky, but our defense has proven time and time again to be nearly impenetratable. If we keep our heads in the gmae and pull some running plays with the occasional pass to Boldin, i think we can pull a win. And it would be nice to see Brady cry again. =)

Well now Moss is out so we'll see how things have changed. My guess is the Ravens will be (for now) used as a tool to see if Moss leaving the Pats was a good or bad idea. By that I mean if we win, the story will be "Pats suffer from loss of Moss" rather than "Hey, who's that good team that beat the Pats at home"?

BTW, welcome to the boards!

well this game will be interesting because the Pats will spread the ball out to their new TEs more in this game to create mismatches because no Moss to draw coverage off of welker.. The patriots don't have a running game that could possibly penetrate our line...

I hope that Cam puts together a solid gameplan this week, because the patriot secondary has been exposed some this season but also come up with turnovers, I don't want Cam to fall in love with the passing game to early unless its working..

I would like to punch them in mouth early again....

Mattison doesnt like to blitz much so we should keep people in the underneath coverage.. the probblem will be when welker motions to various positions will he be shadowed or will we play zone coverage and give up short passes that have potential YAC..

Tate and Hernadez will be the deep threats

I agree, and that really irritates me. If we win this sunday, its all about how the Pats should have kept Moss. It should be "Hey, Baltimore is looking really nice this year." uggh.. anyway, thanks. I bleed Purple and Black, and have for many years. Im excited to join the forums.

Spot on !!!
There is no way in H.E. double hokey sticks Sundays game will resemble last years. Billacheck will not allow that to happen again.

That said, I dont think he is going to be able to stop the run AND the pass.

Whatever spin most of the national media decides to go with if the Ravens will be irrelavent. IF the Ravens win, they'll have 4 wins against AFC teams(3 of them against teams very likely to be in the play-off hunt and 2 against AFCN teams). That would be huge.

Patriots traded a 2011 4th rd. pick for WR Deion Branch from the Seahawks.

i thought you meant because of our discussion of our newest member's avatar, but i see those darn buzzkill mods already laid the hammer down on that one haha...

Anyway, I wont be so brazen as to predict a blowout like I did for denver's game, despite the fact that i see many similarities. New england, at home, will always be a tough team to beat.

But our team is a freight train, quickly gaining momentum. If and when we win this game, this train will be out of control and flatten everything in its path.

27-17 Ravens

Yeah I always hesitate to predict blowouts against the Patriots at home. I know the season is early and the Patriots' defense played better last week but...they have no Moss to have to double up on, their defense (prior to that game) has been crappy so I just think we should be able to beat them by at least 2 scores.

This is the type of game that the Ravens need right now. Harbs has made so secret about his plans of wanting to build a bully, a "Dynasty". Well as they say in order to be the best you have to beat the best. Now i'm not saying that the Pats are the best team in the NFL, but from an organization standpoint, they guys have done it right over the last 10 years.

You can look at the Ravens this year and clearly see where we are building that bully. Being able to go into tough, hard fought, slugfest battles against the Jets and Steelers and come out on top of those games. Then being able to withstand taking the best shot from the Browns in what appeared to be a trap game. Followed by being able to go into a battle with the Broncos and expose them a bit and show why we believe we can be an elite team.

However, now it's time to show and prove why we are that elite team. Going into New England is one of the toughest places to win a game. However last year the Ravens went up there twice and had pretty good showing in both matchups. One being a close loss on a dropped pass, and the other being a dominate playoff win. The Ravens have to be able to go to New England, and beat an above average Patriots team.

Yes i'm aware of the whole brilliance of BB/Brady having 2 weeks to gameplan for the Ravens. However i don't think it should matter much. The Ravens have to go and punch the Pats in the mouth just like every other team we've played.

I'm not sure how this game will turn out yet, i'm sure by thursday i'll have a prediction, but the bottomline is that the Ravens have to have that mentality of an elite team that can compete and beat anyone. I know it's still early but a #1 seed and the chance to host playoff games at the Bank is on the line. You gotta love that.

Hernandez, Grownkowski, Edelman, Wes Walker, Tate, and now Deion Branch (who was patriots former superbowl MVP). This patriots game is going to test our secondary to the max. I love Fabian, but I hope Fabian Washington is not too high on koolaid from last games performance. He was great in broncos game, he stunk it up in steelers. Keep on trucking. Well also see what happens to our Special Team...just don't use zibi and Chris Carr.. Other than that, we have a lot of advantage against pats. Their vulnerable against run. Brady is very sackable, and their running back is containable.
