MERGED: Flacco Needs to Play Better

235 posts in this topic

Show me the QB that is living up to these lofty expectations. Where are all of the elite quarterbacks? Did Kyle Orton look great all game? It's truly maddening to see this thread after a hard fought win, from all phases of the team. I just don't know what you people want from him. There are going to be times where he messes up, there's nothing that can be done about it. If you want to call any mistake "inconsistent," go ahead, but you're never going to be satisfied. The thing I like about Joe is, he can tune out all of this nonsense. He'll just go about his business, being the best QB we've ever had, while people complain that he's not everything they ever dreamed of, riding in on a white steed to win us 5 Super Bowls in a row.

Are you comparing a Peyton Manning semi-offgame to a Joe Flacco semi-offgame? lmao
Peyton sucked today. Schaub sucked today. Do you think their fans are running around like Chicken Little looking for a new starting QB and ready to dump these guys? What's the matter with you people? Go watch a Panthers or Bears game and then talk to me again about QB's that need to improve. Those teams have issues. We have a guy who just had a perfect game just a week ago. Now he manages the game well, he drives our offense up the field a bunch of times, a bunch of goal line visits that we're not able to convert because this O-Line wasn't able to punch the ball in (it took Flacco again to get it done) and now you're complaining about him. Did you see the type of catches Brandon Lloyd made today? Did you see Boldin drop an easy pass that hit him right in the chest for a first down? Did you see Mason not make a couple of bigplays because he couldn't hold on to the ball the way Lloyd did? What exactly are you complaining about again?

Flacco had a decent game, move on. I'm getting tired of reading the same crap every week from the same "fans" that aren't satisfied with good performances, they need perfect stats in order to be satisfied.

And what exactly are you guys talking about when you say that Flacco can't depend on this defense to help him out all the time? We're talking about the game that was on today right? Against the Broncos? I don't know what game you guys were watching. Probably the Bears vs the Panthers, but certainly not the Ravens. Like i said, i saw a guy who constantly put our offense in position to score touchdowns right at the goal line but the O-Line couldn't get the job done when we tried to punch the ball in. And last time i checked this defense gave up multiple touchdowns today. Not sure what you consider "depending on our defense" but if he did that today we would have got our rear end kicked by the Broncos because this defense wasn't exactly great.

Had to rant a little, it's the same crap week after week. Unless he throws 4 touchdowns without a pick there will always be some "fans" complaining about 2-3 throws that were off, where his technique wasn't perfect. Ah, he needs to improve, he can't have a throw be a little off, this defense can't save him every week. All this type of crap these people talk. Until these people realize that this is gonna happen to every QB probably 15 out of 16 weeks these threads won't stop. Flacco made some amazing throws today, some were off. Welcome to the NFL, this isn't flag football. It's sad that it probably takes an injury to Flacco for some of you to realize how good he is and how bad this team would be without him.

I wouldn't say he played poorly, remember that they are playing with some pretty good corners in Champ Bailey and Andre Goodman, and Perrish Cox is solid. He did get pressured in some situations which caused his throws to be off, and some of his throws were not on point. He came out of the gates looking very precise, but as the game wore on his performance declined. However, when our running game is playing as well as it was today, he doesn't need to put up superstar numbers. But when he needs to, he will. I'd give him a B- for today's game

Yes, you're right, we should all lower our expectations like yours. Who cares if we never win a Superbowl as long as Joe can tune it all out and go about his business.

If we don't aim our expectations too high, we won't be disappointed.

I don't see why people are such sticklers on things. We've seen 10,000 "Joe needs to play better/take the next step threads" to the point where it makes me shake my head, especially after a game where he didn't do that bad and actually played pretty well. Coverage on our WR was tight most of the game so he had some tight windows to throw to and pass pro wasn't as great as it was the past 2 weeks.

I mean there are other things to account for as well on offense that not many people talk about.

McGahee dances too much in the endzone.
Our #1 Boldin didn't show up today.
Heap has had some questionable drops since the season started (though he has made plays on 3rd down that I will not discredit)

As a whole, the passing attack wasn't how we wanted it to be today so we turned to the ground game and played defense...and we ended up scoring the most points we've scored all season...

There's always stuff to improve on but rarely do you get a perfect game.
Well you can't just ignore mistakes, when it is things that can be corrected. Sure it is not our job to point out the mistakes so the coaching staff can get on here and see what they need to work on this week. But what's the point of these forums if we cannot talk about the game, moving forward, and improving. We can talk about things that the team did great all the time. But I guess we kinda set goals for the future of our team. We saw Flacco do this wrong, so we want to see how he does in the following weeks improving on that. If you on't wanna see a topic about an aspect of poor play, don't click on it. Or just stay away from the forums the night following a game

I still love Flacco and support him as much as any other, especially over Bulger. But it doesn't mean he cant improve. Until a QB is consistently the best QB in the league topics like this will exist. But even then, no QB is perfect and there is room for improvement.

And how is anyone going to saw we have the "best WR corps in the league". That is just not true.

If I wanted to nitpic, I could say that Joe missed Ngata break open at the goal line. He then held onto the ball too long for a big sack on the same play. Next, Joe threw behind Boldin on a 3rd down pass and he looked a little indecisive on a couple others.

But, now that I know we can depend on him in a pinch; I can't say that Joe played badly in the game. After the game last week, I trust Joe a lot more than I did in the past. His "cred" can sustain him for awhile in my book.

At some point today, Cam figured out that the Broncos run defense was about as soft as "doctors cotton." Their front seven avoided contact as if they were protecting a "fresh open wound" or something.

Joe was just asked to hand the ball off to Ray and Willis today. I think its good for him to have a low pressure game for a change.

No need to nitpic him today. Go Joe! Enjoy yor day off. I got your back! :34853_shakehead:

Yes. THe only thing that really gets me is him throwing off his back foot. Just because he gets in games where he does it consistently with bad results. And it is something that can easily be corrected. Well I guess not too easily or it wouldn't be happening much. If he had better pass protection in the 2nd and into the 3rd quarters, it would have been easier on him. But it is good for Flacco to have a Sunday where he didn't get beat around much. And no turnovers

Honestly, it appears that there are some who are just laying in ambush to attack Flacco. Can you believe this after scoring 31 points today?

Some people go negative at the drop of a dime. This is actually a really good offense with Flacco, Harbaugh and Cam. I can only imagine what might have been said about a horrible offense with Boller, Billick and Neuhiesel. Go figure.

I'm not saying that stuff can't be corrected because they obviously are going to try and correct mistakes as a team. It's just very tiresome having a new Flacco topic up every single week basically saying the same thing that he knows, we know, and the coaches know.

Agreed.....we were a few odd calls away from 7 on our first drive which would have had us with 38 pts on the day, yet Flacco is still getting these type of threads. Go figure....

Well I definitely can't disagree with you there. Especially when it is usually the same things. But I think his good outplayed his bad today. He just had one bad streak. What 8 straight incomplete passes or somethin lol

OMG, another one!!?!????? Guys, you really need to stop, it's getting embarrassing. I think some of our fans have some sort of complex because of the Boller years, but look at the games today to see if the QBs with all the big yardage won. We have a complete team, and I feel comfortable with Flacco leading it. He did a great job today of not putting the ball in dangerous situations, which is important when you're UP 17-0.

I bet if there was a td or two in his stats, they wouldnt be saying anything. A QB doesnt need to score tds to be effective. Now i want able to watch the game, but he was carful with the football. I would rather him not turn the ball over than have alot of tds. For me its simple, if we dont turn the ball over we win.

Look at all the Elite QB today. They didn't look good today at all. To me Flacco played well. Sure he threw some bad passes. But i'm pretty sure he will improve. Go Flacco!! :argdancingravensblueonwkk8:

Let's this nonesense debate to end. We win, and you still complain. It seems like you are comparing Flacco to Manning. You should convert yourself loving the Colts instead.

PS: It's a team effort, trying to figure out for a win. It's not like basketball where one player dominates.

Do you not understand my point? Fans like you are complaining after every game. You never give him credit for good games, and you complain unless he puts up numbers that please you. Your expectations are unreasonable, because the best QBs in the league aren't performing flawlessly every game. Point out the QB that performs without any mistakes. Flacco knows how to win, and if he needs to he can light it up. He's proven that. Our team has also proven that we don't need to, so why should we when we're up 17-0?

Your expectations don't matter, all that matters is what they do and the number of games they win. Enough with the negativity.

biggest problem: he doesn't set his feet. He did that all the time in his rookie year, and it's something I wish he'd learn to do in his third year.
THANK YOU! If I see this guy throw as he's hop-stepping one more time. Or if he throws off his back foot with no pressure on him one more time.

The receivers ARE getting open. But by the time Flacco's late, fluttering, floating, soft passes get to them... the defense has caught up and it LOOKS like the receiver isn't open to anyone who wasn't watching the entire play.

We've said it before the season started, and we'll say it all season long... Flacco has no more excuses. The receivers are there. The blocking is there. Joe... step it up.

He can't rely on the D and the running game to just keep bailing him out, whatever his issues are, his reads, his progressions, his mechanics etc etc he still has the best WR corps in the league and needs to play better.

It's true that Flacco, must play better in terms of play calling,
I also;think the Coach needs to open up the playbook more, use play action
deep more, mix the run/pass and use it's RB's over the middle on LB's more.
that Would open up all areas of the field and confuze the other Team's
deffence's. and We need more power running from McGehee. And yes We need Ed REDD
back on deffence and soon.

Joe Flacco played a good game today. He carried the offense through the first quarter, almost single-handedly, when the running game was struggling. Anyone who denies that either didn't watch the game or is only kidding themselves -_-
