Fox News Columnist Picks The Jets As The Best Team Of The Year Thus Far

32 posts in this topic

Fox sporting columnist Alex Marvez selected the New York Jets as the best team of the season so far. He added a cautionary note to Ravens fans suggesting that the Ravens 3-1 record is somehow softer than the Jets record.

I notice, in articles like these, that the term "swagger" is often thrown about as a justification for these types of selections. I contend that what Alex may refer to as "swagger" in the Jets is really a lack of discipline that costs teams like this tight games against good opponents (i.e. penalty yardage vs. the Ravens).

The Ravens were once touted as the hardest hitting team with the most "swagger". While I think we are still the hardest hitting team (homer point there sorry), I believe we are also more disciplined and confident than before. This showed itself in the win vs. Pittsburgh insofar as we had fewer penalties than Pitt (when did that ever happen before? Especially in ketchup field?) and stayed composed even after we turned the ball over on the goal line with little time left.

So what are everyone's thoughts? Who is the best team so far in this campaign and do you think the "swagger" term is overused and overhyped?

I'm fine with some of the media focusing the spotlight and the bullseye at some other team. Sure he may not be the source of all NFL knowledge, but Vic Carucci made a good comment about whether or not we're the best team with this:

"You can make a pretty compelling argument for them. You can make a case for a bunch of teams in what looks like as unclear a best-team picture as there has been."

The best team through four games means nothing, the fact that the Chiefs (no undue disrespect intended) are the only team left undefeated kinda proves that.

I'm fine with it. I'm not sure why the media are in love with the Jets, other then that they're based in New York, and Rex is always willing to give (sometimes bleeped out) soundbytes. That's about it. They are obviously weak in a lot more areas then the media wants to vocalize. That's okay. We beat them, that's all that matters. We're going to continue to do business like the Ravens have always done business. Next up are the Horsies.

I read that article too. Kinda annoyed me as well. But it is what it is, and that is just one mans opinion. I reserve the right to be wrong but I simply dont buy into all the Jetts hype. I dont see them as THAT good.
(yet another mans opinion)

It don't bother me, if he thinks the Jets are the best... than that tells me we beat the best in the NFL.

Now the thing I take offense to is calling our 3-1 soft.... SOFT??

Jets.... On The Road
Steelers.... On The Road
Browns... At Home, and the Browns were competitive.

We EARNED our 3-1 and are about to go 4-1. I actually call the Jets 3-1 SOFTER than our 3-1, Miami has shown they are not competitive and Buffalo isn't even competitive. Beating the Patriots I'll give them. Vikings > Jets... at least for this week.

Ravens beat the Jets... Ravens Beat the Squeelers... Ravens Beat the Broncos

=============================================================================

Ravens beat the Pre Season pick for SB CHAMPS - Ravens beat the (CHOKE) #1 Defense - Ravens Beat the #1 Pass offense..

Seems like the Ravens are the best in the league at this point....

Though paper might say different, record says it louder

I have no doubt that we would beat again if we had a rematch, but since they will not be making the playoffs, we will have to wait until next year to see one.

Unfortunately people won't make anything of us beating the Browns since we played them at their high point. They were just about to take off with the combo of Seneca Wallace + Peyton Hillis when Seneca goes and gets hurt. They could've been a .500 team. Now by the end of the season it'll look like we barely beat a 4-12 team when in fact they were actually good for those 2 games.

But don't worry, our team is improving quickly in all phases of the game.

Mark Sanchez faced only 1 top 5 defense from last year(ours) and didn't make a dent in it. The Ravens have faced 3 of the top 5 defenses from last year in the first 4 games and then we faced the number one passing attack this year and won out in all except 1. Calling our 3-1 record soft when the Jets only beat the 0-5 Bills, 2-2 Dolphins, and the Patriots is just a blatant insult.

People can say all they want, "Oh the Jets are better with Pace and Holmes in or the Steelers are better with Ben now and they can beat the Ravens". Despite that, the Ravens were not chosen to win in either game even without those players and they went into their houses and beat them when it actually mattered. Jets can be paper champs all they want, but they have one loss and it's against the "inferior" Ravens. End of Story.

I couldn't care less about what the sports writers say. At the end of the year they'll all be on the Ravens bandwagon saying that they've been there for the whole season and blah blah blah. I get sick of listening to the sports writers constantly contradict themselves.

Agreed. That's all they do is contradict themselves and never once admit that they were wrong. Even if they play a roll back from a show earlier of someone making a prediction that was wrong, they would back track still.

Funny thing is someone brought up how most people won't make much of beating the Browns... but the Jets beating the Bills is a huge deal... The Bills are worst if anything that should be brought up with the Jets record.

JETS OVER RATED OVER RATED OVER RATED!

7-9 NO PLAYOFFS!

i already know how this season is going to unfold.

Either baltimore or pittsburgh will be the team to knock the jets out of the playoffs.

After the ravens/steelers play each other in the afccg, all we will hear about is how defense win championships and how similiar baltimore/pitts are to the jets, as if the jets were the ones who honed smashmouth d into a sweet science.

It's pretty bad when the steelers and pats even take the backseat as media darlings to these assclowns..
I actually want pittsburgh to destroy the jets when they meet (so long as it does not affect the ravens winning the division).
Everybody wants to be us....but no one can do it like us.

I see the Jets, Steelers and Ravens as the top 3 teams in the AFC. However, the top team debate, to me, is between the Ravens and the Steelers. The Jets are a level down, because they're going to have trouble beating teams that can shut down the run, whereas the Ravens and Steelers can take to the air much more easily. I can't WAIT for the Steelers Jets game, although it's hard to decide who to root for.

My personal opinion, as of now, is Steelers, Ravens, Jets in that order. A lot of it comes down to having the more experienced QB, and Sanchez hasn't shown me that he can win a game once a team shuts down the run. The Steelers and Ravens are very close IMO, and as Flacco improves it will be harder to say who has the edge. But, since it's close, I have to go with the team with a 7th year QB over the team with a 3rd year QB. I imagine that Flacco will be very much improved after four more seasons.

Not difficult at all......divisional loss is always a good thing, especially when its the Steelers.

We're competing with the Steelers for the AFCN title but we're competing with the Jets for rights to the name "The Ravens".

Remember how Chad Johnson got popular? He really never did anything extraordinary on the field, but he talked about himself a lot and now everyone knows him. It's the same thing with the Jets.

Not sure if you mean the other side (in this case the Jets) or those routing for the Steelers in this matchup? Ha
