Merged: Antwan Barnes Released By Eagles

43 posts in this topic

Former Ravens LB/DE Antwan Barnes has been released by the Philadelphia Eagles. The move comes after Barnes was acquired by Phliadelphia via trade in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick. (LINK)

I suppose there's always the chance that the Ravens bring him back, although the coaches on both teams must've seen something in Barnes that we didn't notice, for him to have been cast off twice now.

Was it a conditional draft pick? Since they released him before x amount of games does it mean anything? We'll since we didn't get Kindle back like we expected when trading Barnes. Maybe not such a bad idea to bring him back for that reason.

I really hope we bring him back..he would be a good pass rush option for us after suggs and JJ..i thought he looked better than both burgess and edgar jones in the preseason

Yeah I want to know that too, hopefully we still get to keep their pick even if they release Barnes.

I like Barnes and all, and actually thought he might do alright in Philly, despite the fact that Philly runs a 4-3, but I don't see any reason to bring him back. He's really not a very good player. At all. But if you move him to defensive end in Madden, dude is pretty badass!

Agreed Barnes is ruthless off the edge in Madden lol

Barnes was always going to have a tough time making an impact in Philly. Trent Cole has one DE spot locked down, Juqua Parker has been a solid player for them for a while and Brandon Graham is their 1st round pick.

I doubt the Ravens bring Barnes back but we'll see.

I liked Barnes but I hear he has personality issues, and that may be one of the reasons he was cut again.
I don't see us taking him back, we could use the extra space on our roster, but you never know.
He'll probably play somewhere though, probably the Jets.
Maybe they'll cut Pryce, HA!

I never really understood why the Eagles traded for him. He's too small to play Defensive End (particularly Left End) and wouldn't be able to set the edge due to his lack of bulk and strength. He also doesn't have the coverage ability to play 4-3 OLB (not sure about his horizontal speed either).

He's a situational speed rusher with no real pass rushing moves.

We can use him for practice squad. Eventually, we can use him to pass rush across Suggs.
No can do, he's past practice squads. He doesn't meet the requirements since he was on an active roster for at least one whole "qualifying" year.

I'm just skimming through this thread and you guys seem kind of hypocritical. Before the season started I've heard about how Barnes is a beast and is set to have a breakout year. Even in the preseason games we were talking about how unstoppable he looked. Then we were pissed about how he was traded when Kindle got injured...now he just isn't that good and we don't want him back.

You might not want to go around saying "you guys" in any circumstances.
Just because you may have seen a handful of people suggest something like you mentioned, doesn't mean you need to jump on here and insult the entire group as being hypocritical.

To a degree I kinda agree with Milton, Barnes doesn't fit in a 4-3 scheme, and he provided solid depth at LB so why not bring him back? Yea, we traded him for a pick, but I assumed that was for the pick rather than solely to be rid of Barnes.

This way we can have our cake and eat it too. if we get Barnes back.

I wouldn't mind seeing him back, I would rather have him in there rushing the passer when we need to than Jones.

I understand what you are saying, but this is the way I see it. Barnes is a bit banged up, he's got some personality issues apparently, and I see a freed up roster spot being more important than a player we thought can't help our team, hence trading him.
I'm sure they didn't just trade him because they could get a pick, imagine what we could get for Rice, but that doesn't merit a trade.
Like I said, it's important to free up the roster for players we have, and want, instead of filling it with someone that was already let go.

That's just the positive way I see it.
I liked Barnes too, but I was never in the locker room or on field with him.

Bring him back please! Edgar and Prescott can't pass rush for JJ on third downs! Barnes can!

I think Phillips could be odd man out. Or Cut Marcus Smith now since when Stallworth comes back he will definitely be the odd man out. Then they let Phillips and some other players fight for their job. See who deserves to stay, and who just doesn't make the cut.
