Buy Or Sell

35 posts in this topic

Most of us will know how this works. Someone presents a situation, player, game, what have you, and the others say if they'd buy (agree) or sell (disagree) and why. I figure, it'll give people an outlet for either advice or opinions that generally wouldn't fit into the Start/Sit thread.

I'll start:
Pierre Garcon eventually becomes a valuable fantasy receiver.

I'm selling. He hasn't been productive in the games he has been a part of, and has recently been sidelined with an injury. Add in the explosion of Austin Collie and I think Garcon isn't going to be the weapon that some (such as I) thought he would be.

I'll actually "buy" Garcon this week if Collie is out... Garcon has practiced this week, Collie hasn't... for the long haul, I'm selling, though. There's too many weapons on that team.

Buy or sell Randy Moss having a big (rest of) the year in Minnesota?

I'll buy the Moss in Minnesota having a big rest of the season. I mean till Rice gets back and not knowing what kind of Rice the Vikings will get back coming off the surgery. So Moss should see alot of balls coming his way, even if Rice comes back and does great. They went for Walker and that hasn't really worked like they wanted it , so all Favre has to do is chuck it up and Moss goes and gets it!

Buy or sell Ray Rice being able to get at least 1,200 or more just rushing yards?

I can buy it. He's played some of the best run defenses in the league so far, has been hampered by his ever-recovering knee, and has been limited with Cam Camerons play selection. I think he gets back on track in a big way, maybe even starting as early as Sunday. 1,200 is almost a sure thing, barring injury.

Buy or Sell: Roethlisberger having a great year coming off suspension? Or, on the other hand, suffering a Tiger Woods like fall in greatness?

I'll buy Roethlisberger, as much as I hate it. If he's been practicing on his own as much as it's been reported, I can't see him missing a beat when he comes back into the mix next week. He might not have a "great" year, but I see him having a good, shortened year.

Buy or Sell:
Denver's running game once Moreno returns.

As much as it pains me to say this, but I will have to buy Ben. It's no secret he is pretty much on his last leg with NFL, so I think he has probably took this as serious as he should. I also believe with that, he wants to prove to his coaches and team mates that they can count on him to come through this. And when he's in there the Steelers always seem to find a way to pull a rabbit out their hat! I hate the Steelers as a whole, but they do have good players and I have no problem giving credit where it's due.

I am going to sell the Denver running game. They have been known to have great backs in Denver, but I just see it on the decline.

Buy or sell the Ravens staying the #1 ranked pass defense in the NFL after this week?

Buy or sell the Ravens winning the division title this year.

I have to buy the Ravens being the number 1 pass D after this week. Titans looked great against the Broncos, and we played them last year and stopped them, even when they had Marshall, so no problem there. Btw, who would've thought we'd have a top 5 Pass D, let alone number 1, after all the offseason doubting??

I Buy the Ravens winning the Division this year. We as an offense are still not clicking at 100%, and that is very scary, especially considering we haven't really even started the Rice machine yet

Sell. Last year Favre was playing at such a high level. He's come back to earth. Their defense is aging and doesn't seem to be as fickle as years past.

I'll Buy. Because anything is better than having Maroney run the rock. Moreno is an explosive player and on occasion will make the big play. But I'm not buying a huge leap. Just that it will be better. Won't happen against us either way.

I'm buying. He'll be focused instead of getting drunk chasing coeds. Tiger had too much aftermath affects going on. Divorce, wife was probably <yell>ing at him all the time. Media was a mogul. Ben just needs to go out and have one good game and a W and things will move away real quick.

Great thread idea ATD.

Buy or sell:

Ryan Torain remains the Redskins' starting RB the rest of the year.
Well you know how I feel about this. Buy. I wouldn't be surprised if Portis ends up on IR and never plays for the Redskins again. The only thing that will hinder Torain from being starter is an injury.

Much like what happened in 2008. Torain was announced starter and he played one game before leaving with a season ending injury.

Thanks =P

I'll buy Torain. Even before Portis' injury, there was talk of him being a third down back, then Torain put up some decent numbers for two games. Even if Portis avoids IR, barring an injury or absolutely abysmal output, I see Torain holding onto the starting spot for the rest of the year. It amuses me though, we go from talking about Washington stockpiling aged, washed-up running backs (Johnson and Parker) to Torain being the starter.

Buy or Sell:
Delhomme loses his starting position to Seneca Wallace.

Sell, if Delhomme is healthy the job is his. They aren't grooming either guy to be long term starters but Delhomme gives them the best chance to win now. Seneca has done absolutely nothing to get the WRs involved. Delhomme will change that and they might even string together some wins.

I will buy Jake losing his job to Seneca. Seneca looks really good and is playing as good as he can with what he has to work with. I believe Cleveland has a better future with Seneca for right now.

I'm selling the Vikings making it to the super bowl. Last year I would of bought it three times, even though the NFC has showed alot of weakness as always, the Saints are even suspect for making a return. I'm still going with my pick of the Packers going to the dance for the NFC.

Buy or sell the Rams topping their division and making the playoffs.

I'll pull a Jim Mora and put the Rams on layaway. For such a lack-luster division, it's going to be one of the hardest to predict right now. Barring a turn of events no one could foresee, Hall won't spark the Arizona offense (at least this year...?), so their chances of winning the division are next to nil. Seattle has been on both sides of the spectrum this year, if they can get it together they definitely can make a run for the lead. The Niners... well, they were the favorites to win it before the season started, and haven't shown to live up, or even come close to the hype. I'm not ready to write them off, as the potential for a run is there and you won't need a 10-6 or better record to win the NFC West this year. But they can't wait forever to turn it around if they want to make it into the post season.

As for the Rams, they definitely could surprise everyone and squeak in. Bradford has looked great, and barring injury, Stephen Jackson is there in the backfield to take some of the heat off Bradford. If they get consistent and string together some wins, they could put together a lead large enough to stave off the rest of the wildcards in the West.

I'm actually buying the Rams for everything Demon has said. Bradford has made Clayton look pretty darn good at reciever, Jackson is still there (if Bradford makes some teams respect the passing game, Jackson moves into the top 5 at RB), and their division is weak. Only thing Rams really need is Defense as a whole, and offensive line.

Sell. Once it gets cold he'll have a 3/4 INT game and he won't stay on his current pace.

Buy or Sell Micheal Crabtree, period. (In fantasy).
I'll buy. Eventually the San Fran offense has to click... right?

Seriously though, Crabtree had a good enough season last year to warrant a good 1-2 punch alongside Vernon Davis. I don't think he's going to be a top-tier receiver, or really even a starter for most teams, but could afford a look in a flex or bye-week plug in.

Sell, but look for any signs of chemistry developing between Crabs and Smith. Once Smith starts looking Crabtree's way more, I see him doing decently. But as for his expected value before the season, I'm selling it. And as there is no sign of chemistry between the two, I'm selling his fantasy stock altogether

Hey, if you want to sell Antonio Gates. How much should you sell him for?

I remember reading some trades in yahoo. Someone traded Antonio Gates for Brandon Jackson. I was like some people don't belong in fantasy football leagues.

I'm thinking a top 5 TE, top 10 RB, and top 10 QB/WR.

But I think Gates' price is too high to trade in a 12 team league, since a team has to throw their whole line-up to get him.

That's just insane. Antonio Gates leads the league in TDs and he is 4th in the league in yardage with WR's! Trade value is high. You are talking about a top 5 back or a top 5 WR. Yes Gates is that valuable in fantasy.

At the pace Gates is going, he should've been drafted in the 1st round.

Buy or Sell? Randy Moss was traded back to the Vikes. Who is next in line for N.E.? Brandon Tate Buy or Leave on the shelf? I did buy, dropping my lowest producing WR on all 5 of my fantasy teams which I believe were players like Jacoby Jones and M. Crabtree.

As of right now, I'm selling. Dallas isn't handling their running backs very well this year. Barber isn't being too productive and they aren't letting Jones get his chance to break a few runs. Until they show the willingness to move people around when Barber is struggling, I'm selling.
