Pats And Chargers Talking About Vincent Jackson

17 posts in this topic

Given the ammo they have in draft picks, and that Brady doesnt really have time to work with 20 year old receivers anymore the Pats are (rumored) to be working with the Chargers on a deal for Jackson. Why not? Jackson wants long term security, the Pats just traded away their vertical passing game and WR that demands a double team, and the Chargers wont pay Jackson.

I believe he'd still be out for our week 6 matchup even if the trade happened tomorrow correct?

That's correct, even if Jackson were to be traded tomorrow, he'd still be serving his league suspension; had he been traded weeks ago prior to a specific deadline, he still would've been ineligible to return despite a reduced suspension, I believe.

I can see the Patriots pulling the trigger on this trade; they don't need Jackson immediately, but they could certainly use him down the line. For now, they're more than set with Wes Welker, Julian Edelman, Brandon Tate, and their two tight ends. Welker/Edelman/Tate are essentially the same type of receiver, while Jackson would be the big-bodied target in the end zone.

If I was the Patriots, I would've just drafted a deep threat receiver rather than a Welker-type like brandon tate in the draft, but seeing as how that is now impossible, I could see the trade happeneing especially because now the Patriots are going to suck. I mean, one of the main reasons they are so good is because they had two BEAST receivers that couldnt both be double teamed, but now teams will likely key in on Welker and since their running game is terrible and Edelman is decent I don't think they will do work like they have in past years.

They better do something, whether it is bolster their running game or revamp their receiver position, to give that offense more than one weapon to work with. In all honesty, what functional offense has only one weapon? Pretty much none

I think the Pats screwed Moss over, in addition to that, I think they screwed up by letting it get to the point where he was so unhappy that he wanted a trade. I hope SD makes NE pay through the nose for V Jax

I've also heard that Logan Mankins could be involved in the possible trade

As I said before the Moss trade, won't believe it until I see it.

I think Tate can be more of a deep threat then what you guys are giving him credit for.

i agree, he's shown his ability on special teams and i don't see why he can't be a deep threat. who knows where he would have gone had he not had the knee injury in his final college season.

I have a hard time believing the Pats would bring in Jackson given his past. The Pats are known for staying away from players who bring drama. They won't admit it but Moss's outbursts had something to do with their decision to trade him.

That's what I heard too. That Logan could be ammo in this possible trade. I hear a lot of people shooting down this idea that the Pats would trade for Jackson. But people were saying the same thing when Moss got traded.

Wouldn't be surprised by this move. They'd replace a aging stretch the field guy with a younger version.

They'll get younger yes but he wants the same kind of contract Moss did. Do you think the Pats are willing to give it to him?

They didn't want to give the contract to an aging Moss. But a younger Jackson, I'm sure the circumstance would change.

AJ's asking price..

AFC: 1st and a 2nd
NFC: 2nd and a 3rd

LMAO
Very Understandable. This is one decision that I like from AJ regarding VJ. Why make it so easy for a AFC Team to grab him and possibily help eliminate the Chargers from either making the playoffs or beating them in the playoffs, so asking for a 1st and 2nd from a AFC Team is fair. Now the NFC much lower as expected, and seeing that him going to a NFC Team won't hurt the Chargers chances, unless that NFC Team winds up in the SB than it's all good. Now coming off this scale this now limits the teams who could trade for him.

AFC:
NE: Obviously top choice here especially since they started talking and have the picks to trade for him. Personally though I think NE is better off keeping the Picks and rebuilding through the Draft like taking a Julio Jones or AJ Green with Oakland's Pick.

Browns: I only put them here because they do need a receiver and if Mike Holmgren is willing to give up a 1st & 2nd to help the Browns than he will probably do it. The Browns have come close to winning before beating the Bengals, they got Hillis and a run game going, imagine the passing threat with VJ to go with it.

NFC(The MLB Trade Deadline Effect):

Redskins: Only a 2nd & 3rd? I'm sure Snyder has already went to the Bank since he should have plenty in there from not spending any money in FA this past off-season and has already figured a way to over Pay VJ. Plus with McNabb working out well, I call it the MLB Trade Deadline effect because looking at the NFC Teams who need a receiver and that are winning, just like the Rangers getting Cliff Lee to help them get into the Post-Season VJ may be the push the Skins need to make the playoffs and do some damage in the post-season.

Bears: At 3-1 they are a surprise team in deed and don't have a receiver for Cutler, getting VJ would give Cutler a legit # 1 and would help them make a push for the playoffs.

Buccaneers: Another Surprise team, The Bucs have been pretty decent if you put aside the blowout loss to the Steelers, sure Rookie Mike Williams has been a good surprise but Josh Freeman could be even better if he had a proven # 1, and VJ would provide that.

Rams: Sam Bradford is the real deal... hands down no ifs and buts about it. They did get Mark Clayton, and Clayton is producing well, imagine what Bradford could do with a legit weapon... endless. The Rams are 2-2 and looking for their 3rd win, and in a sloppy NFC West, Bradford could lead the Rams to Division Champs and into the playoffs, and once again getting VJ would provide that push the Rams need to get into the playoffs.

Seahawks: They lost out on Brandon Marshall, they cut TJ and it's possible Deion Branch could go back to NE if NE don't get VJ. If Branch goes back to NE, that leaves the Seahawks thin at WR and with a sloppy division as mentioned above, this could get the Seahawks into the playoffs.

My Prediction: Rams Trade a 2nd & 3rd for VJ and the Rams win the NFC West but lose in the wild card round.

The Rams need more than a reciever... Yes Jackson is a great young reciever, but they need a better O-Line, and a better defense as a whole with those picks.

Well they brought in Moss didnt they? He was arguably the biggest drama queen besides TO before they got him.

That was knocked back, as the Chargers aren't interested in getting another guard.

Forget the Patriots.... apparently VJ's rap sheet scared off any hopes that VJ lands in a Patriot uniform and it may scare off hopes of him being traded at all.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/10/10/vincent-jacksons-rap-sheet-scared-patriots-away/
Curran now reports that the Patriots lost interest once owner Robert Kraft became aware that there was interest.

The problem, per Curran, is Jackson's history of drunk driving. He has pleaded guilty twice to DUI, which resulted in a three-game suspension under the substance-abuse policy.

With nine days remaining in the trading period, Curran reports that a trade for Jackson officially can be ruled out.
