Super Bowl Trip?!

6 posts in this topic

Just checking in to see if anyone is already in the process of planning a trip to Arlington, TX come February. I've been looking at hotels and airfare but have not booked yet. But I'll tell you one thing...when the Ravens go...juviebest will be there.

Good move, and thanks for the reminder. I did this in December 2000 for SB XXXV, and wound up getting 4 r/t tickets to Florida for $100 each r/t, while others wound up paying close to $1,000 each.

I have been watching Southwest Ding fares and sales, but I think it's time to get serious.

When did you book yours Mod4? After the Ravens won the AFC Championship game?

I personally am going to wait just to be on the safe side. I also am going to fly into OKC that Thursday and catch a Thunder game (big Kevin Durant fan). I'll rent a car and drive 4 hours south to Arlington from there. Arlington hotels are mostly booked now so I've been checking on places within a 1 hour radius to stay.

No ... it was way before that. Sometime in early to mid-December, when I spotted the $100/r/t sale.

For those who don't know the differences between airlines: Southwest is the only airline which does not charge for rebooking tickets to future flights, as long as it's done w/i one year of the original booking date. Therefore, as long as one will travel at a future date w/i 1 year, there is no risk of losing money by booking early. i.e., had the Ravens not made it to the Super Bowl, we would have applied the $400 which we spent (on the tickets to Tampa) to other flights by early to mid-December 2001.

Another Ravens away game travel tip: don't be afraid to travel to another city to drive over to Dallas. Look at the total travel time. e.g.: because of the archaic Wright Amendment, there are no non-stops between BWI and Dallas Love Field. One can fly to Austin or OK City and drive to Dallas in a bit more than an hour greater than flying BWI-Dallas - point being to also consider those cities when looking at Southwest sales.

I did not realize Southwest did that. That's pretty clutch. I just need to decide if I want to fly into and out of OKC. It's less expensive then flying into Dallas plus the hotels in OKC are A LOT less expensive. I'm talking $60 a night. So i'd spend a couple nights in OKC, then a couple in Dallas, then another night or two in OKC.
