Although he is a reigning Pro Bowler, Ravens defensive tackle Haloti Ngata felt the Steelers ran at him Sunday afternoon.

Maybe Pittsburgh focused on the game film from a week prior, when the Browns’ Peyton Hillis bulldozed his way through the middle of Baltimore’s defense for 144 yards.

But on Sunday, the result was much different and Ngata was a primary factor.

Ngata finished 11 tackles, second only to Ray Lewis’s 13 according to coaches’ statistics. He also added one sack and two quarterback hits. The Ravens held the Steelers to just 84 total rushing yards.

“I love playing these guys,” Ngata said of the Steelers. “They kept running it my way and I was able to make those plays.”

Ngata lined up primarily at defensive end, and as Head Coach John Harbaugh said, he held up well against Pittsburgh’s inside and outside zone run schemes. He faced five-time Pro Bowler Flozell “The Hotel” Adams and talented guard Max Starks.

The only knock on Ngata the past couple years has been a lack of pass rush. But with a sack on Pittsburgh’s first drive of the game, Ngata now has two sacks in four games. That’s more than he totaled in each of his previous two seasons after a career-high three sacks in 2007.

“Haloti Ngata, first of all, is playing as well as any defensive player in the league right now,” Harbaugh said. “You guys see it, and there’s no denying it. … He’s just the kind of guy you root for, and he’s dominant.”

Ngata is incredible. The dude is the best at his position, but u wouldn't know it unless u watch him. He's quiet and appears humble. U seldom hear his name mentioned, and when it is, its by former players. This team is full of "hidden" stars and humble, hard working MEN. No media lovers here! Ngata is the perfect Raven! Keep it up Ngata...and thank you!

Ngata is a beast of a man. Huge guy, very strong, but so quick and athletic it's scary. No wonder Fabian took cover when trying to catch that deflected pass and saw a MONSTER coming at him.

What amazes me is how far back in the field he got on some plays. In some situations, he was making tackles along with the secondary.

Yet he's never responsible for a hole in the D-line. The man has speed but also knows his opportunities. An incredible player.

Ngata is just too much of a beast! love the man, great personality on and off the field. I rather bump myself into the wall than bump into Haloti Ngata....ask Washington for the why question...

Ngata is among the best players in the league right now, and, though it's still early, should be among the frontrunners for the DPoY award, along with Ray Lewis. Great as Ray is, he and Ed Reed have been surpassed by Haloti Ngata as the best player on the team.

Lets hope and pray that he stays healthy all the way until January. If the Ravens can bust thru the Steelers o-line it is going to get real ugly for Denver next week. Kyle Orton better not hold onto the ball too long. Lets see JJ get to him the first play of the game just like he did last year. Set the tone early. They may have a decent passing game but the ball must leave the QB's hands and travel to the receiver. The Ravens have the #1 fewest passing yards on defense in the NFL. Good luck Kyle

Haloti's like a bull: huge and swift! He just needs to practice his pass rushing and pass ineterceptions. Then, he could become the next Ray Lewis! :argdancingravensblueonwkk8:

Everything you all said, and then some, is why my first *authentic* jersey was #92. So that says a thousand words from me. =)

And yes if you want to get technical he's a Nose Tackle, but of course we see have seen him move around and play DE. And cornerback, lol.

Does anyone remember what MARK SCHLERETH said about NGATA when he first came out of college[Oregon]?Let me remind you he said,"Ngata spent more time on the ground than grass"[quote-unquote]and that the Ravens would have to light a fire under him to get him to perform!I for one have not heard Mr.Schlereth apologize to Ngata yet! Is't alright to give your opinion,we're all entitled to our own,but to be so insulting and so wrong,WOW!I'm waiting for Mr. Schlereth to man up.Truth be told I don' t think he can!

PS:As far as his pass rush is concerned as the Ravens place emphasis on that part of their game he will get better at it.As they put better pass rusher around him his pass rush will get better, remember Kelly Gregg is also more of a run stopper then a pass rusher.I see the Ravens don't get a lot of penetration up the middle with their pass rush,it seems teams jam up the middle on the Ravens pass rush, the Ravens always seem to be doing a lot of hand fight at the line of scrimmage,so they might want to brush up on their technique, their "BULL RUSHER" get jammed a lot!As for Gregg his arms are too short to really be a top notch pass rusher,Kelly holds his own,but as a really good pass rusher he not equipped to be one!NO DISRESPECT TO GREGG!!
