Knock Out Punch In Argument

Okay so my friend and I have gotten into a verbal tussle of sorts over past weeks win over the Steelers.

His argument is that it wasn't an impressive win because Rothlisberger wasn't at the helm for the Steelers.

My counter argument was that the Ravens had a multitude of talented players that were out as well so that should cancel out.

Then he goes on to say Reed is always injured (not true) and we couldn't move the ball on the Steelers and what not.

Are their any stats or is there anything to say to this guy that will just end this argument in its entirety? Need help. (no truces!)

How about reading the stat line to him. Flacco completed 65% of his passes for around 250 yards. Sounds like we did fine moving the ball to me. What's his excuse for Mendenhall running for 3.2 yards per carry? That Roethlisberger's fault too? Was it Roethlisberger's fault that when they got 2 turnovers, our defense shut them out and kept them from capitalizing?

Reed isn't always injured, that would be Bob Sanders. We didn't move the ball? Flacco had 24 completions for 256 yards. That is twice as many completions as Batch and nearly double the yards. The Ravens had 3 scoring drives whereas the Steelers had 2, not to mention the one drive that ended at the 2 yard line.

First of all, just look at last year.

In their first match, the Steelers outplayed the Ravens without Big Ben but still lost.
In the second match, the Ravens outplayed the Steelers without Ed Reed but lost.

These games are close no matter who's in/out.

Also, the fact that Roethlisberger was out is not an excuse because part of football is coaching, and part of coaching is making sure your guys don't go out and get suspended. That's why teams pass on guys like Pac Man Jones or Vick. We can't say we only lost because we didn't try to acquire Mike Vick can we? Then they can't say they only lost because Big Ben was out. Off-field issues count and our team won that battle.

Championship-caliber teams don't use injuries as excuses; championship teams are only as good as their depth. No teams ever play each other at 100%, even arguably in Week 1. The Ravens' depth just so happened to be better than the Steelers' depth for that particular game.

Tell him that we got the W in the tough divisional game on the road. If Roethlisberger was in there, it would've changed the complexion & pace of the game. It's a classic Steelers vs. Ravens game either way, it always comes down to the last drive. Either you make the play or you don't.

It was our turn to make the play on that last drive. Roethlisberger or no.

first off you said RAVENS!!! and i go impressive except big ben wasn't playing. Never did i said they would have won. Second you contradicted yourself. Who won lastyear with Ed Reed out and Ben in? didn't you say the steelers haha ya th...ought so. Who won last year with Ben out ravens.. haha kinda like this year not very impressive. Actually Mendenhalls success is based on Roethlisberger's presence. A defense usually does key in on the run when a 4th string QB is in. Most teams will run in those situations, so that is a pretty good rushing statistic 3.2 yards when a defense knows what your doing lol good job ravens D! Oh wait that's prob b/c Ed Reed wasn't in the secondary huh? And i threw in the 2nd and 3rd string guys being out as a pun mainly bc your throwing in your back up inside linbacker who has recorded like 3 tackels this year IM so impressed lol.. ya throw his stats in my face why don't you haha. and goodness a crappy reciever too, i know flacco had the game of his life throwing for 250 yards and im already crapping my pants by that.. he may even have eclipsed the 300 yard mark with him like OMG we should make a trophy for that achievment.. 1) The play selection for the Steelers was about 50/50 so no, they didn't "know" the Steelers were going to run.

1) The Steelers have only lost 12 times in the last 50 games played at Heinz Field; that's with and without Roethlisberger. Still an impressive feat.


2) It's a road divisional game for the Ravens; divisional games are always tough in the AFC North, otherwise, the Steelers had no excuse for letting the Browns play some close games with them the past few years despite Cleveland's mediocrity.

3) To downplay Charlie Batch's skill is to basically say that the Steelers went 3-0 headed into the game as a fluke. Batch is no Roethlisberger, but to paint him as a joke is to say that the Steelers didn't deserve to go 3-0 in the first three games.
