espn has the steelers #1..i honestly think if they would have had ben at qb,they would have killed us.we barly beat them and they had batch at qb..i have to give credit were credit is due and the steelers look like a better team this year..im a die hard ravens fan and not gonna kid myself like most do.i say it like i see it.
For a "die hard ravens fan", you sure do seem to discredit the Ravens and praise the Steelers a lot. Just sayin'..

And if the Steelers looked like (and were) the better team, they wouldn't have lost at home to us. Again, just sayin'

Charlie Batch is a good quarterback, maybe not as good as Roethlisberger, but he has proven his worth in the NFL and he can still kick it even at 35 (not "pushin' 40"). The "4th string QB" stigma you're attaching to him doesn't not give him proper credit, he would be a solid #2 for almost every team in this league. Heck, maybe even a starter for the Cardinals.

It may be true that we only beat Pittsburgh by three on the road, but a win is a win. Since the Mike Tomlin era (since 2007) the Steelers had only lost five home games before last Sunday. The Steelers are a good team no matter who is at QB, they were 3-0 heading in.. Beating the Steelers at home is a big deal, especially in this rivalry.

Fact is, we beat them at home and, even though the scoreboard only showed a three point difference, we beat them in every phase of the game - except for turnovers, which makes the win all that more impressive. We beat them even though the Ravens played a far-from-perfect game.

Trying to take the shine off the victory by using the Roethlisberger-card is weak, the Ravens lined up without four key starters (Reed, Redding, Gaither, Foxworth) and a banged-up Ray Rice.

Fact of the matter is, "crushing" the Steelers is exceedingly rare and, more often than not, a fluke. They haven't lost by more than two scores since 2008 and they won the Super Bowl that year.

Maybe I'm going on a rant, I feel like I am, but the Ravens just showed they were better than the Steelers. Against their healthy defense, Joe Flacco found a good deal of success and won the game. And, against their Roethlisberger-less offense, the defense had the upper hand as they shut down both the running and passing game. All on the road.

I don't see how you can deduct, absolutely, that the Steelers are a better team than us. Because they "look" better? The only thing you need to look at is the Heinz field scoreboard. Sigh. In any case, you're entitled to your opinion.. If you feel the Steelers are better than the Ravens, rock on..

The Bengals beat us. Until we prove otherwise, they are the better team. Now, I have every confidence that the Ravens will win the next match-up. But, until then, the Bengals are better than us, they've beaten us three consecutive times.

It really doesn't matter what the pundits say. Real football is played on the field. Who is "better" isn't decided in a blog, it's decided on the scoreboard.

Where did I say that? Please find it for me.

We are first in the AFC North, though.

I was more commenting on the wisdom of you believing the Steelers are better than the Ravens after the Ravens just beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh. You're the one using the word "powerhouse".

The Ravens and Steelers could be 31 and 32 for all I care. It's just that you can't have Pittsburgh at 31 when the Ravens just beat them at their place for the reasons you gave.

I'm not boasting for the Ravens. I'm not trying to buff them up. They've made the case, themselves.

EDIT - and the Bengals have to be the team to beat in the AFCN. They're the reigning division champs until someone takes that title from them. None of these teams are "powerhouses" they all have they're flaws and they are all beatable (obviously).

ok.. all as im saying ,on paper we have 3 big name recivers -2 big name backs, a big name te..the best d in football and we just get by the steelers who have 1 bigname reciever, 1 decent rb and a fourth string qb and we skate by them and the browns...and lose to a struggling bengals team.....like i said ,i hope im wrong..but to me i think that even thou we have a winning record there is no way in hell we will win the division the way were playing.. and i dont see how you dont see it..thats all

Losing ground real fast. If you want to quantify Willis McGahee and/or LeRon McClain as a "big name" you can do the same for Mendenhall. If you want to classify Todd Heap as a big name you sure can use that phrase for Heath Miller. Call Batch what you may, but he has proven that he is a good quarterback.

It's to the point where this debate isn't constructive anymore, probably never was. Your use of the word "we", "us", and "our" is also in question, too, considering the insulting things you said about Ray Lewis in contrast with the praise you heaped on James Farrior. (Please check your personal messages)

Ravens beat Steelers in Pittsburgh = Ravens > Steelers

It's, really, as simple as that.

Get out of here with the age point. By the looks of the typing, I'd say you're the young one. Berad is one of the best posters on this board. I'd say a lot more, but I'm not allowed.

Really wish I could make an exception right now haha

And I may only be 19 but I know my way around a sentence, the difference between "your" and "you're", and how to formulate an argument.

Civilly, can we just agree to disagree, leave age out of it?

If continuing this makes you feel better, great!

Not sure of your age, and frankly I don't care, but I will say I was a man at 19, so I would take great offense to being called a child. He was/is bringing valid points and expresses his opinions through the written (typed) word better than most of my employees.

But again, if mentioning his age makes you, as a "man", feel better, then have at it bro!

Edit - mods, this was my censored response and I think I stayed in bounds :)

I really dont care about power rankings. Obviously the writers have their favorites and that's fine. Rankings are rankings.

I would worry about where we stand if this was the BCS but it's not. It's just a bunch of sportswriters. Anyone who watches football and has a knowledge of the game can make their own darn rankings.

Power rankings are very subjective. Each author has there own criteria for determining a teams placement (statistics, objective/subjective analysis, personal opinion, etc.).

lol it's pretty lame to bring age in the friendly debate when you're obviously not being able to backing up to what you're saying....just lame..

Rankings are a pride thing. To say your team is number 1 gives the fans hope and motivates them, but other than the emotional stimulation, Rankings are of little use in determining the quality of a football team.

For instance,
The Ravens defense ranks between 1 and 10 depending on what statistic you look at.
Ravens defense does not have alot of interceptions and sacks, but the teams the Ravens played were not passing the ball (Jets, Steelers). Plus alot of potential interceptions were dropped by the Ravens secondary.
Alot of personal opinion goes into determining the final ranking.

The Ravens offense is ranked below 10 in most statistics. But the stats don't take into account Game Plan, Play Calling, strength of opponents defense, was it raining, etc........

To say that the Ravens have not scored a lot of points, (so what) the Ravens don't need to.
The Steelers game was a defensive battle.
The Jets game was a defensive battle.
Part of winning is running the time off the clock which reduces the scoring overall.

Look at all the teams that have the top Ranking for passing yards and see how many of them have a better record than the Ravens. (none)

You win through balance.

Mine would probably look virtually the exact same as that. Shefter is usually Ravens friendly (one of the few at ESPN).

The sad thing is that sportswriters ridiculous opinions and biases are actually making computer rankings look better every day.
