PFT's Week 4 Power Ranks

61 posts in this topic

So we are at #2 behind the Jets?!? I don't expect to be number 1, but hate being behind a team we beat. Florio even goes on to say if we played the Jets again they would beat us. Does anyone here believe that?

They are 3-1 without their best pass rusher, best run stuffer, best coverage guy and best WR. Against us they still had Sanchez's training wheels on.

I'll take the win we got against them. But if we played again, it would be another dog fight with an unsure outcome.

As much as I hate the JETS, they are only going to get better as the year goes on. I can see why they are listed as #1. They have a great defense missing a lot of key pieces and Sanchez has yet to throw an INT on the year. No turnovers, solid defense.

If we could halt the last place turnover ratio we have, I could see us being first.

Kind of figured that was going to happen. It doesnt matter atleast we are ranked near the top.

Really all that matters is that we keep winning.

Ravens are 3-1 while playing top defenses, lost our #1 CB during the offseason, no Ed Reed, no Gaither, RBs banged up.

Yea but they will be getting back Revis, Pace and Holmes. We no longer have Foxworth (and probably Gaither). We will get Ed Reed back, truth in point. But to dismiss the Jets for blinding hatred.....

Once again the Jets are playing clean football. Not turning the ball over, getting the run & pass games involved and they are 3-0 in division.

If we can solve our turnover ratio, create a balance attack. And flat out hit on all cylinders, then we should be crowned first.

I'm not one for rankings but I don't understand why the Jets are ahead of us. True they are a different team since we played them but so are we. We just pulled a game out against one of the better defenses in the league with a final minute touchdown drive. Our defense is top notch and the offense is bringing it together. The Jets have not played a defense of our caliber in their last 3 games so all the points they are scoring don't concern me much.

Revis is out now but he wasn't when we beat them.

Don't forget, while they didn't have Holmes, or Pace, or even Pool, we didn't have Webb, Reed, Cary Williams, Cody, Kruger, Stallworth, and cousins. All are starter/gameday roster quality. And who knows? We might get Gaither back after all.

We're #1. And that 1 point we won by was a big margin seeing as how they couldn't move the ball on us at all.

Phew. I was worried that the lombardi trophy wasn't in our case yet. #1, #15, whatever we are, it doesn't really matter to me. I just want to see us play like a #1 team.

Being last in turnover ratio, run game lagging and lapses on both the O and D, I see room for improvement in terms of being a #1 team.

I'm pretty sure this is "Week 4 power rankings". No one has the trophy yet. So that means we can't be ranked first?

I'll admit we have room for improvement. So does every team. Every team who's played 4 games has lost one of them. Even though we're last in turnovers, we've still won 3 games. That speaks volumes. Steelers are 3-1, but they've needed +8 turnover ratio to get there. We proved we can win without winning the turnover battle, which isn't something many teams can do.

Fair enough.

Let's wait for the other power rankings to trickle out. I'm sure one of them will probably have us #1 based off some dude's opinion.

Reminds me of the awesome time that we were #1 last year after 3 games on most of the power rankings. Good times. I picked up a #1 power ranking ring and everything.

No way a team you just beat a month ago should be ahead of us on the rankings with identical records. Also, we played 3 of the Top 10 teams in the league if you ask me.

Funny thing, I just mentioned how we're good despite turnovers. BR.com's newest news article? "3-1 Record outweights turnover ratio".

The subtitle says "If the Ravens can turn around its -7 turnover ratio, the sky's the limit."
NFL.com home page: "Sky is limit for Steelers".
:34853_doh:

Well, see ya in the sky, Steelers.

Valid points though. I agree about not getting too ahead of ourselves. Good talk.

Yeah, the Jets are good but we beat them in their house on monday night. Let's not forget that we were without Reed, Foxworth, Gaither, and Webb.

That being said, sure Sanchez is going to get better. Sure the Jets might get better. But so will the Ravens. We'll get Gaither back eventually, moving Yanda back to RG which should allow us to be more effective running the ball, and not to mention the chemistry between Flacco, Boldin, Housh should be much better as well.

If we played them again, I don't think it would be 10-9 again. But I'm pretty sure the Ravens would have a slightly better chance of winning that game than the Jets would..injuries not withstanding.

Apparently the national media is going to disregard the absence of Ed Reed because he's not good or something. Talk about Darrelle Revis all you want but Ed Reed is better. Our defense would be unstoppable with him in the lineup. Consider that

If you have a problem with us being #2, I suggest you steer clear of ESPN Power Rankings, since they have us at #6 with the Falcons, Jets, Packers, Saints all ahead of us, and the Steelers still at #1 because they are getting a player back who hasn't taken a snap yet this season.

espn's week 5 rankings just made me laugh. dont care much for em but this week is just funny where we are. beat the current number 1 and number 4 team at their fields but were not better than atlanta apparently. but atlanta isnt better than the saints who were beat at home by atlanta. confusing.

I would love the chance to see us go up against the Jets again. It's no secret they hand handcuffs on Sanchez in week one, ok with that said bring it Sanchez! I'll take Sanchez with no handcuffs and our defense, like someone else said it will be a dog fight and probably a game real similar to a Pittsburgh game. Hopefully the Jets and their fans will get their wish and see us later down the road!

It really doesn't matter what outside voices have to say or think. Whatever they say, doesn't mean they're right. All that matters right now is records.

The Jets are 3-1. Were 3-1. A whole bunch of other teams are 3-1. That's what matters, and which 3-1 team is the best is entirely debatable anyway.

these rankings are horrendous... the broncos beat the #5 team and only jumped one spot, whereas the titans jumped back 6 spots..... the rams are ahead of the chargers... The bears are ahead of the skins and eagles... the niners are 29th????? colts are better than the texans and patriots.. and packers... vikings and cowboys are way too high up on that list..

Just keep getting better, beat the Broncos...keep the Ravens ranked anything but #1 for the chip-on-the-shoulder aspect.

At least you can go to NFL.com and the fans can arrange the rankings to their liking. Then you can see what the experts pick, and see the average fans' ranking.

You have a point power rankings are met for out amusement. I want to see the Jets again but I can't wait to see the Steelers again already because I'm tired of this Ben Worthlessberger talk. Bring Big Ben and Polamalu and lets get it.:argdancingravensblueonwkk8:

Well let me start by saying the only rankings that matter to me are the NFL standings which has us sitting on top of the AFC North as we speak.

Now, if you guys are complaining about PFT's rankings, you should see ESPN's where we are 6th behind the #1 Steelers, Jets, Saints, Falcons, and Packers. I can understand the NFC teams ahead of us, but where is the logic with the Jets and especially the Steelers? The Ravens are the only team who has beaten those two teams. Alas, in the popularity, I mean power rankings apparently what you have done in blowing out the worst team in the league (Jets vs Bills) or because you are getting back your star QB who has yet to play a down this season just trump head to head wins....

But as I said, we shouldn't really care because we are atop the rankings that truly matter.

Popularity rankings..lol. That's so true.

I like how they ignore games when ranking teams since obviously games don't matter. ESPN's writers are apparently using some sort of super logic that us commoners aren't aware of. Either that or they are extremely good at pulling names out of a hat.

Also, now that the Vikings have acquired Randy Moss it seems obvious that they should be ahead of Miami and New Orleans in the rankings.
